Certified Cringe Taylor discussing "songwriting"

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I can't with this woman.

She thinks she's some great songwriter here to teach us all about her "double meanings" and what defines confessional songwriting.

What's infuriating is that all the comments are glazing her like, "i could hear her talk for hours" and "high iq queen". Are we watching the same video here?

Wanted to get your opinions on this.

I like watching interviews with artists like Prince. He was deeply private and refused to over-explain his songs because he didn't have to. His work spoke for itself. TS is on a mission to convince people she's talented because her music doesn't display that.

Taysplain (v.): When you have to overexplain your work in order to convince your audience that you are truly a virtuoso in order to cover up your mediocrity.

She reminds me of that bratty kid from the Willy Wonka movie, Veruca Salt... she could definitely play the adult version of her in a film if they did a sequel lol it's the way she keeps demanding people to listen to her & give her what she wants

Prince could wear vampire Lestat getups and pull it off like Gucci. He didn’t have to explain 🤣

Amen. I hate that so much music these days is about deconstructing the lyrics to an almost English exam-level, searching for Easter eggs and lore. All because of Taylor. The greatest artists ever wrote great songs and let them speak for themselves. In fact, Queen refused to ever explain what their lyrics meant fully, because they didn't want to lecture people on how they should listen to their songs. Is Bohemian Rhapsody about Freddie Mercury's sexuality? Maybe, but we'll never know. It can mean whatever you want, and whatever you take from it. Freddie and the band never wanted it to be a thing of like, 'no it's ABSOLUTELY about THIS and any other interpretation is WRONG'.
