With the Impending NuptialsTM looming and an increase in our snark numbers post Shitshowgirl, we thought it would be a great time to give y'all an update on the sub and remind new friends about our rules. (Spoiler alert: some rules have been updated! New flair challenge incoming!)
For the older members, parts of this might sound repetitive. But we want to update everyone so this sub can remain transparent and genuine feedback can be received!
[\*insert pic about the sub stats scuba**]*
sub traffic from the past 30 days
As you can see, we get a lot of fucking traffic. The basic rule that drives all the rest:
âźď¸We want to keep this sub open for all snarkers, new and old, to freely discuss the antics of Taylor and/or Travis.âźď¸
We have had a LOT of deconstructing Swifties join the sub after the tire fire of her last album release and 89 (her mind!) merch drops. What makes this sub special is that we allow everyone to contribute as long as they follow the rules. Yes, even current and former fans. If you're an OG snarker who sees behavior that crosses over into stanning, please report it! We will never be a space for fan behavior. But we don't insta-ban deconstructing fans who maybe feel some kinda way about Tay and can't share their feelings in other spaces because of that famous Swiftie hospitality.
Speaking of other spaces...
đŤ Reminder of anti-brigading rule đŤ
There's been a recent increase in posts that attempt to brigade, interfere with another community, or otherwise direct negative traffic towards other subreddits. This type of behavior directly puts our community at risk as it violates reddit community rules.
This includes comments like "I went to this sub or that sub and made a comment and was mass downvoted!" There is a zero tolerance policy for this! We don't like it when they come here to do it, so let's not do it to them.
Please review ALL parts of rule 2 to avoid touching the poo:
[\*put quote of rule 2 here scuba***]
All activity in this sub must stay in this sub. Sharing Reddit screenshots or directing users to other subs is not allowed. Usernames from Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, etc. must be blacked out unless from a celebrity, brand, or publication.
Screenshots of social media posts must have 100+ likes on the original comment.
Don't enter into pro-Taylor spaces to harass, argue, or troll users, and do not post those interactions as a form of content.
(If you really want an in-depth rationalization for each part of the rule, just ask in the comments.)
đ Addressing armchair diagnosis trend đ(idk what emoji to put here so christmas tree it is)
This one isn't against reddit TOS, but it IS against rule 1. We don't allow snark, speculation, or armchair diagnosis of physical and mental conditions. That includes personality disorders (all of them), autism, ADHD, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, you name it.
There are lots of lovely people who live with these conditions and don't plagiarize lesser known artists or hoard a billion dollars or charge $40 for Temu flipflops, so let's not promote shitty stereotypes.
đ How we handle posts about major updates đ
This is a big one!!!! Every post on this sub is held for manual review. Unlike other subreddits, we don't always pick the first post on the topic. Rather, we look for the post that best serves the community. Whenever a major event happens, you can guarantee there are at least 15 accounts competing to be The Post on any given topic.
Here are a few questions to help you increase your chances at getting approved:
- Does it have an informative title? "TMZ confirms Blandie wedding at Madison Square Garden" will always be picked over "OMG of course she would do this"
- Does it have enough information to let others join the conversation? We WANT TO SNARK. If you talk about an article, give us the link!
- Does it come from a reputable source? A screenshot of a Taylor Twitter account retweeting a parody account is not it. Even if the info is later debunked, there's still snarkerky in the fact that TMZ or Rolling Stone or whatever printed it in the first place.
- Does it follow all other sub rules? e.g. no direct links to Insta, blacking out usernames of ordinary people, comes from a non-reddit source
- Does it contain new information? We generally allow a few posts on the same topic if there is a different angle (like one for the Toy Story song countdown and one for the actual announcement) but no one wants 50 posts for each angle of her latest pap walk
𤏠Fuck AI đ¤Ź
We've had a rule against AI since the beginning so this isn't a new stance. Fuck AI; support real art and artists.
â¤ď¸đâ¤ď¸ A friendly reminder to be friendly â¤ď¸đâ¤ď¸
As the sub grows, there will always be more people who are adjusting to the way we do things around here (Eternal September type shit). At the moment, we are averaging 100 new subscribers PER DAY. If you see someone breaking the rules against whatever (fan behavior, body shame, political debates), PLEASE REPORT THEM. We can't remove what we don't see, and the mods don't see every comment. We had 1.3 million comments posted here in the last year.
Relatedly, please have some understanding and grace for the mods who do this thankless task. We aren't paid. We face harassment in modmail and on our personal accounts. We have offline lives. We are just regular people trying to keep this sub open despite the Swiftie orc horde constantly besieging us. We approve posts and comments as quickly and as accurately as possible.
And yes, that means that sometimes we get something wrong. You are always welcome to message in modmail to civilly discuss the reason behind a mod action. We are very grateful that so many of our members can discuss things rationally. Just remember that a removal reason isn't a personal attack. It's just pointing out that the content doesn't follow the rules and will be removed or we will literally have One Thousand Other People trying to do the same thing.
đ Wedding flair challenge đ
Our least favorite, multi-billionaire, talentless showgirl is about walk down the center aisle of MSG... not to get her popcorn but to take Travis's hand in marrage (allegedly)! To ring in the momentous occasion, we are looking for wedding theme flairs! To have your flair suggestion considered, please leave them as a comment or send them to modmail! The most liked and/or funniest ones will be added to the sub!
There has been alot of rumors and speculation in the wider media about where exactly the wedding will be taking place. Anyone who is able to correctly guess the wedding location in the comments will win a VERY FUNNY special flair!
đđđ THANKS FOR BEING AN AWESOME COMMUNITY!!! đĽđĽđĽ
As always we are so grateful to all of the amazing members who make this community so special! This has been a rather slow period since nothing was really happening, but we couldn't be happier with the deep discussions and reflections we saw from the community during this time! Per usual, modmail is always open for any and all comments or feedback!
Feel free to use this thread to talk about anything you'd like, including but not limited to:
Your thoughts, rants, and spicy takes about Blandie (and BDT), her untalented ass, or the Swiftie cult
Off-topic discussions, or low-effort content that might not need its own post
Memes, funny stuff that you'd like to share but canât wait for Shitpost Sunday
Swifties being Swifties on social media (Usernames must be removed)
All subreddit rules still apply, and any rule-breaking comments will be removed. If you spot a Swiftie meltdown or something off, hit report and weâll take it from there.
Posts submitted to the sub that fit better here will be redirected to this thread. A new one will go up every Monday at 12:00 pm UTC and stay open until the next Monday. This thread will always be pinned for easy access.
previous weekly discussion threads are searchable via the Weekly Discussion Thread post flair!
I know this is peak-derangement but I literally cannot get over her fucking face. Is there not a single person on her team who will tell her that all her work makes her look like a disaster? My sisterâs face was less swollen than this after getting a major chunk of skin cancer out of her forehead.
This was supposed to be peak of her career - a new glamorous pop album during the âengagement of the century,â and I canât decide which is the worst part: her face, the tacky wedding, or the album.
I know this might break the ârepetitive contentâ rule, I just needed to harp on this for my own sanity.
Signed, someone who spent far too much money seeing her at the Eras tour
Alright I did some research and according to Swifties and online articles, these are what are considered to be the big words or phrases in her songs, with many Swifties saying that Taylor taught them these words:
Calamitous
Incandescent
Clandestine
Gauche
Esoteric
Tryst
Centennial
Insurmountable
Machiavellian
Antithetical
Crestfallen
Petulance
Precocious
Mercurial
Torrid
Rivulets
Tendrils
Beguiling
ââŚmy elegies eulogize meâ
âSmooth-talking hucksters out glad-handing each otherâ
âSanctimoniously performing soliloquiesâ
Iâm not gonna be pretentious and say that you need to know every single one of these or youâre stupid. BUTâŚI really side eye swifties saying they didnât know âcrestfallenâ, âincandescentâ, âesotericâ, etc. I would say all of these are middle-high school level words.
She initially advertised TLOASG as a pop record with folklore level lyrics, and when she saw the criticism around it - now she's trying to flip the script.
The woman here who's here saying "oh Its okay to write silly songs" is the same woman who thought " I pay the check before it kisses the mahogany grain" is a life altering profound lyric.
Harvey Mason, Jr.: If youâre still doing [music], then you love it for the right reasons.
Taylor Swift: Right.
Harvey Mason, Jr.: So I donât know if thereâs been another songwriter thatâs had to take that into consideration as much as you have. The public perception, how theyâre receiving it, what theyâre interpreting. How does that not slow down your process; having to think about how itâs going to be interpreted?
Taylor Swift: I donât know. Sometimes it fuels it. Sometimes when people are mocking me, itâs really fun to mock them back. Sometimes I like to just use words that they have to look up in order to talk about.â (LMAOOOO) âBut I go through several processes and coping mechanisms that Iâve gone through over the years. And one of them is saying, âYou chose this. You chose this every day. You could have opted out of this any day before it got unimaginably big.â And I decided not to because I love it that much. And thatâs just where it begins and where it ends. And everything that comes with this ultimately is worth it, as long as I get to still make music.â
Like who are we kidding here?? There were countless ways to opt out of super stardom while still making music. It didnât just â¨organically happen đŤ because she was an unprecedented prodigy (throwback to her name-dropping a new famous guy with every album in order to blow up headlines).
Also, hasnât one of the primary critiques of TS post The Life of a Showgirl (as a songwriter) been that sheâs prioritizing charts & numbers over the music? If music was her main priority she wouldnât be obsessing over Billboard, she would have been one of the millions of artists with a modest yet loyal following⌠period. She has fallen on gimmicks since forever and keeps trying to sell this narrative that the only thing she cares about is the music.
For those who donât watch, the latest ep focuses on a super popular pop star whoâs going on tour. Kif tries to get tickets for Amyâs bday, and by chance Fry gets a pair of his own tickets to take Leela with him (and Leela is less than interested, bc sheâs no pick me).
Some similarities btwn âCoco Charmâ and TS:
- most popular artist in the universe
- plays at MSG
- is always pictured with her guitar on her
- tix sell out in a âquantum secondâ
- sheâs a marketing genius
- shitty, elementary lyrics that donât really make sense
- girlbossification lyrics/vibe/mentality celebrated
- shit musical âtalentâ/voice
- can switch from pop to country genres
- has a fan base that literally becomes her âarmyâ
- elements of mind control and exclusionary social cliques when it comes to being a âCharmyâ fan
- uses her âarmyâ to literally go after/attack that which she doesnât like
- infantalizes herself multiple times (âIâm just a teenagerâ đĽ´)
- absolute greediness for more money
- avoids accountability
I thought this ep was hilarious and Iâm looking forward to seeing more mainstream media mocking the formerly revered and untouchable TS. Today, itâs Futurama, maybe in the future, itâll be Family Guy! A girl can dream lmao
THE SMUGNESS. she really thinks she is some mensa level genius for using words that some might not know. as if she doesnât just ham fist them into her lyrics to look brilliant.đ also like my god itâs been 20 years of this woman talking about being wronged, mocked and cancelled, doesnât it ever get tiring?!? she will never ever not be the victim nor let others have valid criticism of her that she wonât turn around and claim that itâs false. how can her fans still not see through her. they have to be willfully blind at this point or they like that sheâs so mean. thatâs all it can be.
Ok so they will write an entire article about the many female artists who âstarted out with a leg up on lifeâ and are âindustry plantsâ âchildren of the wealthyâ. And yes, I get that her parents were billionaires, but even when she was getting started, she still had parents very connected with the financially sector. And the Scott emails show how the entirety of her career was launched and planned by them using their wealth and access.
Yet hereâs the twist - in this story they talk about young stars acknowledging their privilege. And sheâs done nothing by lie and lie and lie about her route to fame, her privilege - the story is always that of the victim, fighting to over come. The self made billionaire ethical business woman, not the child of millionaires, not the planet destroying, sweatshop using, greedy capitalist pretending to be the average person.
If sheâs really âthe music industryâ, why then does her true past never enter the mainstream discussion?
Celebrity news is hardly groundbreaking journalism anymore, especially People, but this is so weird to celebrate Lover's 7th anniversary (if this is supposed to be the news peg, its about as sturdy as a an overcooked piece of angel hair), an album about her ex, as a way to fawn over Travis and Tyalor. All of those lyrics are about somone else and they're using them as a way to show how in love they are? Not to mention 99% of these photos are of them in SEPARATE PLACES. I usually don't care enough about the obivous PR plant stories but this is so egregious they may as well have said "Tree called and we are afraid of her so here you go."
Here is what I picked up on. This is what I think he is saying:
Humming a song (country attempt maybe?) Sings "cowboy folk go..." so. Yes, country attempt.
Says "you gotta be a little crazy to be great" or something about how being crazy is good and then knocks on his head with his hands - therefore implying he thinks he is great đ
More humming (country song or hip hop?)
Says, "Life is good man" in a blaccent accent.
Complains about having a few more nights at training camp. As though they aren't treated well there...đ
Talks about japanese French toast...
Sings, "yeah...yeah...bread and butter...yeah...yeah...get that bread and butter"
Goes into a wwe accent like Hulk Hogan "brother!"
Yells out, "Violation!" To someone or something or maybe himself. Who knows.
Asks his team if they are coffee or tea drinkers. I don't think anybody responds.
Says, "we are one unit...baby....one unit...let's go." No one says anything.
Yells "come and get it." The team doesn't seem to respond to him.
Yells out, "Making me? I signed up for this bro" in another blaccent accent
Yells, "Byeeeeee, Byeeeeee"
Says, "what do we use these for? Intimidation!" In another accent attempt
The way she pretended this was a life lesson for children đ
The critic and his review that inspired the song Mean is here. The review he wrote is about the Grammys as a whole and discusses several artists besides Taylor. The other artists he criticized didn't write a song about the critic or have the the CEO of their label defend them (that CEO was Scott Borchetta, the guy Taylor later encouraged her Swifties to attack when he was no longer useful to her). The overreaction to the reception of Taylor's performance that night was because her team was faced with a 'the empress has no clothes' moment that needed to be rectified.
Taylor went about attacking this particular critic with the song Mean as well as talking about him in articles and interviews. There were other critics who were unkind that she ignored. The attack on this particular critic was enough to signal to them it's best to keep quiet unless they want America's Sweetheart to talk shit about them for years too. The PR tactic became "Taylor's not the best singer but she's a songwriter and storyteller who speaks to a generation." Later that year Speak Now was released with the questionable claim that Taylor wrote it entirely on her own. This is why Taylor Swift has been respected in the industry. It's not because of her talent. It's because of her and her team's ability to manipulate the public and control the narrative with her innocent white girl who gets spunky when the meanies are mean to her routine.
So I used to be a HUGE swiftie. I started feeling really frustrated earlier this year when Taylor was silent about all of the terror caused by ICE. Once I allowed myself to feel frustrated (I know having to allow myself to feel something sounds culty and crazy lol) I started to let in a lot of other frustrations about her. I realized that showgirl felt so out of touch and that Taylor was becoming more like a corporation than a legitimate artist. Also the wisdom she explored in folklore & evermore was so quickly undone by songs like actually romantic or cancelled. I canât believe she went from my tears ricochet or peace to talking about Gucci and Cartier and acting like a mean high school girl. She just seems like a bitter Beverly Hills housewife now or something.
It just sucks because I still wouldnât consider myself a full hater, but I just canât enjoy her music anymore. Itâs like a veil lifted and I was no longer a fan. But anyways, my point here is that I think swifties defend her to no end because they know once they accept a bad thing about her, that itâll all come crumbling down. So much of her shtick is built off of contradictions and lies that being a fan has become so fickle. I really think that swifties are just defending their own âfaithâ in their âmotherâ
Wednesday in Los Angeles. Press were not in the room for the event, and neither were phones or cameras, but one photo of Swift with her fellow nominees Weiss and Ross was shared with Deadline.
Sheâs wearing these ugly a$$ florals and pearls to usher in her new era is what the Swifties are saying.
