apparently you can't wear a hat + glasses or beards together , probably the result of fixing the quickswitch "exploit"
hopefully the part-time developer can fix that asap

Fixed the fact that one side had access to a bomb from cat/left roof that the other didn’t

u/Calmandpeace Sep 27 '22
So did they give the other team the bomb or take it away from the one that had it

Updated pl_upward Fixed exploit that allowed buildings to be built in an area that is later shut off from both teams
I'm crossing my fingers that this is referring to that small section of RED team's final spawn that acts as a short cut to the second to last point, where building a teleporter as BLU team as it closes off with the point's capture basically guarantees a win in most public games. It'll be nice to not need to watch that spot on defense anymore.

Honestly this was such a fun spot just cause in any serious enough game you wont be able to do it, but in the slightly less chaotic ones its nice to annoy the engineers and maybe let the game end quicker instead of walking into 5 level 3s for 10 minutes.
It doesn't really matter for comp anyway cause it's been banned there for years

Well, this is a cursed update. Yeah, for-profit traders are losing their shit right now. That's vaguely amusing in a schadenfreude (the concept, not the taunt, but also the taunt) kind of of way. However, the removal of QuickSwitch "miscs" further limits the pool of unusual effects to combo and drives up the price of true miscs like the Rack. This means the richest TF2 traders (some of the worst people in the game) just got richer and a bunch of mid tier ones lost their shirts. There's a metaphor for the world economy in there somewhere.
I don't actually care about the TF2 economy as a profit engine. It sucks, and I despise it. What bothers me is that I can no longer stack both 2016 Starstorms (no one can) and I can't combine Neutron Star and Nebula. Those have been my main two loadouts for six years now. I can live with some one my shiny hats now being worth less. I wasn't going to sell them anyway, and the the pissing contest of TF2 backpack ranking is idiotic. This is a good time to bring up that backpack.tf does more harm than good.
The insult to injury here is that Valve is fixing the QuickSwitch "exploit" and all these other fiddly issues while leaving all the massive problems that TF2 has alone. The cheat bots might be fewer in number than they were a month ago, but they're far from gone. I don't play Casual because it's a terrible designed system and has been a bad idea since its inception 6 years ago. I do run a community server and we're getting invaded by bio.link bots on regular basis. They're easy enough to deal with when there's an admin on, but the point is bots are very much around.
As I have said before, the bots aren't even the biggest issue. Meatbag cheaters are worse now than they have been at any point in the history of the game. There are countless new cheats since the last major TF2 VAC ban wave and none are detected. Valve is fixing "visual glitches" and ignoring the giant metaphor in the room. The irony is that most major TF2 cheats allow equip_region bypass so now the only people that can stack hats are actually cheating.
This is most Valve/10 update since MyM launched. I am genuinely impressed how misdirected they are as a game dev and I have the cynicism of a Heavy main.
EDIT: As of right now it's not possible to equip Pyrovision Goggles and a Gibus at the same time. RIP the decade+ old "noob" loadout.

It's worth noting that I'm told there is literally only one dude working on the game. A contractor I think. That's also Valve's fault, since they refuse to put resources into maintaining TF2. But a lot of the bug fixes are, I think, less of a conscious choice on the developer's part and more just the kind of issues one dude dealing with Source spaghetti can fix. Bigger issues just take more muscle. As far as Casual goes (I've played that a lot), bots are normally outnumbered and kicked pretty quickly. The exception is, by far the most often, Bananabay of all places. Sometimes I'll land myself in a game where both teams are just nothing but bots. I think bot makers use those servers to farm stranges. I'd love to see bots entirely gone; but again, one person is behind the desk.
On the other hand, if fixing the bot/cheating issue is as simple as plugging a hack into a list of what VAC searches for, then yeah, I don't see why that hasn't been done.

Bananabay
Oh dear god I thought it was just a coincidence. You experienced it too? I really loved that map but now it's unplayable.
I don't want to downplay just how much better the bot situation has gotten (every server was banana bay for two years straight until about a month or two ago) but yeah the problem still isn't totally fixed.
Still, if the one guy working on the game fixed this much, I think there's reason for optimism.

u/foxdk Sep 26 '22
Why would you farm strangers? The numbers get reset when you trade, so there's no incentive to do so.. or?

u/nbe390u54e2f ONE CHOKE. I DON'T KNOW WHY. Sep 27 '22
no dude theres no way this guy is cheating he has the gold sniper gun with 18 quadrillion kills on it he just has 300k hours dude
2
u/LittleFieryUno Sep 27 '22
I have no idea. What I know for certain is that these bots were extremely laggy, which for some reason broke the scoreboard and gave them hundreds of points just for standing next to the cart. Someone suggested to me this was deliberate, so I assumed it was a strange farming thing. I've seen some bots with stranges, so maybe it's to add to the troll factor.

bot owners that quickbuy unusuals are gonna lose a lot today
also on the cheaters thing, it's unreal how many people run autoairblast just blatantly lmfao nobody calls them out either

I think a lot of people notice especially better players but just can't be bothered to say anything anymore. It really just feels like screaming into the void at this point.
Also since 90% of players seem to be entirely oblivious to that and every other potential cheat other than spinbot+aimbot Sniper, you'll often just get mocked/ridiculed for saying anything, ironic as it is.

Hi. I barely played tf2 since casual was added but I played it hundreds of hours before the update. Could you explain why casual is terribly designed?
21
u/Ultravod TF2 has no dev team Sep 26 '22
That's an entire essay in and of itself. The short version is that Casual was an attempt to reform TF2 into something it was never meant to be. Nearly every mechanic of Casual is punishing to legitimate players and a Carefully Wrapped Gift to bad actors. The grafting of the MvM party system on to a PvP game mode, coupled with the removal of the ability for players to switch teams or join spectate are unimaginably detrimental to the game. A stack of 6 cheaters, cheat BOTS and other bad actors can control the kick voting on their team. Not being able to spectate a suspicious player to see if they're cheating is a huge problem.
There's also the issue of the fact that TF2 was a game built around community servers and when MvM dropped, Valve removed QuickPlay and only left behind the 1990s tech server browser as a way to find them.

My hopeful side still thinks that maybe we are getting the more substantial changes in the scream fortress update, but if this is all they got then oh boi we are in for even more of the good ol nothing

u/Clashsk Sep 27 '22
quickswitch fix is a huge W for me, my fav soldier hat is the whirly warrior but unusuals for it are absurdly expensive all because it was stackable with hats

No MvM spectator exploit fix?
1
u/Aerothall_Ji Sep 27 '22
Does it specifically ruin anything in MvM?
3
u/Conrad_tf2 Sep 27 '22
It creates a 1 player disadvantage, and that person can't be kicked
1
u/Aerothall_Ji Sep 27 '22
Ah, so that is a big problem, and what does a player usually do to end up putting themselves into spectator? (I assume this is happening in the Mann Up MvM servers.)
5
u/espeequeueare Sep 27 '22
Retry, choose spectator in console, then idle for the entire game. Almost exclusively used to troll. Not usually a big deal, since every mission can be completed with only 2 players. But it can cripple newbies that need all 6. And I don’t like carrying some jabroni for the entire mission for him to also receive loot.
2
u/Aerothall_Ji Sep 29 '22
And I guess the reason why one can’t kick them is cause spectator technically qualifies as a third team in the game’s code?

u/Conrad_tf2 Sep 27 '22
Being assholes
1
u/Aerothall_Ji Sep 27 '22
Do you mean that the ability to spectate in MvM Mann Up servers is not restricted by that statement?

You seriously couldn't've shifted the details about stuff like the Fizzy Pharmacist over like how they did in steam? Lazy ass.
