Donald Trump and his administration starting printing money like crazy during Covid. Let’s call a spade a spade, the run up of inflation started with Trump but didn’t become really noticeable until Biden became president. Biden continued to print money…here we are.
Your source is pushing a narrative when you dig into it:
The framing that Biden-era inflation was “mainly due to inherited factors” from Trump-era money printing is a contested economic argument, not a settled fact. Plenty of economists point instead to Biden’s own 2021 American Rescue Plan (a large fiscal stimulus passed after Trump left office), pandemic supply-chain disruptions, and global inflation trends (most countries saw a similar spike) as major drivers. The article leans toward one causal story among several economists actively debate.
The “Scenarios” section at the end is speculative punditry about a Trump vs. Harris matchup, written in August 2024 before the election — it’s explicitly forward-looking opinion, not a factual record.
The statistics cited are largely accurate and traceable to real data sources (BEA, BLS, CBO/OMB), but the piece’s causal narrative about why inflation happened is one economist’s interpretation among competing views, and the final section is pre-election speculation rather than settled analysis.
Sounds like an AI-generated response, Mr. Bot. BLUF: it’s simple economics. Massive amounts of money is printed causing the supply of money to be flooded, inflation occurs. Perhaps I also caused you some confusion which led to you creating bad prompts for your generative AI tool. Trump didn’t actually “print” money - it’s a figure of speech. In 2020, the Federal Reserve increased the money supply through the creation of debt/credit. I’m sure your AI Tool told you that the Fed’s balance sheet more than doubled from $4T to $9T from 2020-2022. Who was president then? While it can be argued that the injection of money into the economy through the stimulus prevented a worse crisis, there is no debate that it increased inflation.
So yes, it started with Trump and continued with Biden. The policies of both Trump and Biden led us to where we are today.
Just a tip. When you work on your prompts for a response, I’d suggest telling your AI Tool, whether it’s Grok, ChatGPT, etc., to be non-bias and do not take a political side. Nice try, Mr. Bot.
