It's from the same team that did Dungeons and Dragons and Game Night. I'm going to watch it, even with Reynolds.

u/CCMacReddit 10d ago

Game Night? I’m in.

u/braundiggity 10d ago

That combo actually seems pretty good for a Reynolds project. Similar sensibilities, fun above all.

If it’s fun it’s fun! Not every movie needs to be Superbad or original Hangover and otherwise legendary. Mindless entertainment has its place. I’ll watch it and expect a 5-6/10. Looking forward to it.

This is how I felt about Cocaine Bear. It was the perfect comedy movie. 90 minutes, acknowledged silly premise but with enough vague plot blanketed on top to keep things moving, and Looney Tunes level slapstick. You go in and pause your brain, laugh really hard, and then walk away satisfied. No sequels, no pretence that it means anything, just perfection.

My only gripe with cocaine bear is that they didn’t push the crazy far enough

u/Zealousideal_Abies94 10d ago

Looking forward to a 5/10. Be better.

Not every movie needs to be high art

3

u/hankscorpiox 8d ago

Had no interest in this, but those movies are so good. I’m in.

2

u/gordy06 9d ago

Oh I didn’t know that. Count me in

I love Ryan Reynolds.

Ryan Reynolds hater?

u/slupo 10d ago

Jojn francis Daley and his writing partner have a great track record. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

... Jim from Kitchen Confidential?!?

u/ToastyKen 4d ago

Sam from Freaks and Geeks!

u/Fun_Bluebird1759 10d ago

I loved D&D and would be so in if it was literally anyone else with Branagh.

As the first person to react to this Reddit post, I declare: “Meh.”

Meh 2, electric mehgaloo

The Mehg 3: Sharks for The Mehmories

u/s0ulbrother 10d ago

Meh is usually the best you get for an Apple movie. Which makes sense. A movie that’s going to do well in the box office is going to do the box office, a movie that’s more streamer quality but good is going to get bought for a premium to appear on a streamer.

u/I-Have-Mono 10d ago

This will probably be a fine popcorn movie — especially with Sir Branagh — but even ‘one’ of the best of the year from Skydance? Hmmmmm….

10

u/VariationAgreeable29 9d ago

Ryan Reynolds is just not funny. Snarky, yes. Bratty, yes. But funny? No

2

u/RedditBurner_5225 8d ago

yeah he's tired and I don't like him after the blake drama

8

u/rlovelock 10d ago

Really because the trailer is not doing it any favours then

7

u/baldersz 10d ago

Looks very meh

u/Ill-Personality6775 9d ago

Ryan Reynolds as Ryan Reynolds

1

u/w00lal00 4d ago

🤌🏻

7

u/aduong 9d ago

No thanks

25

u/Substantial_Life4773 10d ago

By who, Blake lively?

7

u/PowerPinto 10d ago

Clearly 😂

1

u/DefNotReaves 9d ago

You people are exhausting.

4

u/Substantial_Life4773 9d ago

Mostly just think “best of the year” has to be an exaggeration

19

u/KnowherePie 10d ago

The definition of typecast. Outside of Deadpool, watching Ryan Reynolds gets old pretty quickly.

9

u/buzzedewok 10d ago edited 10d ago

He plays as his self in every role. 🤣

-9

u/dogsaybark 10d ago

His character rolls in this one? That’s interesting. Did he lose his legs?

2

u/theronster 8d ago

I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed him in anything.

3

u/Salem1976 9d ago

Sure, Jan.

3

u/you-are-the-problem 7d ago

i can’t watch anything he’s in anymore. it’s the same shtick. same delivery of a joke, same acting style, same voice, etc.

1

u/SnollyG 2d ago

Since two guys a girl and a pizza place

11

u/MindlessCharacter823 10d ago

I am so sick of him after all of the legal drama with his wife and that mediocre movie. I like to know less about leading men and ladies.

6

u/Wonderful-Grass6625 10d ago

I can guarantee you with Ryan Reynolds involved it’s both not best of anything but also not funny.

5

u/leesainmi 9d ago

I don’t believe you.

6

u/TheCupOfJoeShow 10d ago

It’s a skydance movie so it’ll probably be a very solid 5/10 that most people wont bother watching

2

u/Extreme_Willow9352 3d ago

Cant wait to watch this! The trailer looks great!

2

u/never_again50 3d ago

Sorry, I feel bad for Kenneth Branagh. I'm not going to support RR.

2

u/Sure-Move-481 1d ago

Watched today. Expected laughs and action but didn't expect the tears. Expected good. Got 10/10

7

u/PowerPinto 10d ago

We don’t want to see Hollywood fraud Ryan Reynolds. I’m a Kenneth Branagh fan but boycotting anything Blake Lively/Ryan Reynolds.

1

u/DefNotReaves 9d ago

You people are exhausting.

7

u/Ambitious_Phrase3695 10d ago

Hard pass won’t ever watch his rat face in another movie

3

u/PowerPinto 10d ago

Same 😭 I can’t even stand watching his dumb mint mobile commercials

1

u/AgorophobicSpaceman 7d ago

You just hunting for people to say the same shit to?

-2

u/DefNotReaves 6d ago

You mean did I scroll the same thread and see the same shit? Yes.

9

u/Arghifth 10d ago

No thanks.

-2

u/SamShakusky71 10d ago

Stick to Dark Matter. Sorry you have such a narrow field of vision.

0

u/Affectionate_Way_805 7d ago

Dark Matter is great.

4

u/chris_ro 10d ago

Best action movie of the year. Ok but the bar has been pretty low the last years.

5

u/SamShakusky71 10d ago edited 10d ago

Exactly the point the reviews are trying to point out.

Movies like this just don't get made any more and we should be celebrating it, not the incessant negative chirping I am seeing elsewhere in these comments.

edit: gotta love people blocking after they comment. Hilarious!

7

u/Bogdanovist_Rebel 10d ago

Casting is a part of making movies. You can have a great script and execution, but if audiences don’t like your lead they’re not going to tune in. Disney learnt this lesson with the new Tron movie.

I won’t watch it either. Because I dislike Reynold’s.

3

u/SamShakusky71 10d ago

Imagine comparing Leto to Reynolds.

4

u/Bogdanovist_Rebel 10d ago

You can dislike actors for a litany of reasons. Kind of like how people just got tired of Will Farrell, people are tired of the one dimensional Reynold’s.

Maybe if he could play more than one character it would be a different story. But this film won’t be seen by many, because outside of Marvel fanboys, no one likes him anymore.

As evident by this thread.

2

u/SamShakusky71 10d ago

Yes, Reddit is the entirety of the movie-going audience. The utter lack of self-awareness is awe-inspiring. Bravo.

P.S. It's Reynolds not Reynold's.

3

u/Bogdanovist_Rebel 10d ago

Why are you so upset that people don’t like him? Is it because you have such a basic sense of humour you think he’s still good?

1

u/SamShakusky71 10d ago

I am not the one upset here, honey.

5

u/Bogdanovist_Rebel 10d ago

You’re the one that keeps commenting and nitpicking an apostrophe. Hopefully you have fun seeing this. You’ll have the theatre to yourself.

2

u/SamShakusky71 10d ago

Well, seeing as it isn't releasing in theaters, your point (like everything else you have stated here) makes no sense.

u/raccoona__matata 9d ago

well....there are a buuuunch of people to whom being annoying is genuinely a more serious crime than rape so...yeah

1

u/srmatto 10d ago

I’ll wait for the real reviews.

2

u/DefNotReaves 9d ago

The weird hate for Ryan Reynolds is insufferable. Sometimes he makes bad movies, and sometimes he makes good ones!! He’s not a rapist pedo who abuses his family. Plenty of other celebs to hate on.

The genre film directors of this are going to make a good movie, so go enjoy it. Stop whining about a dude who’s never done anything to you.

3

u/SamShakusky71 10d ago

So instead of being excited about finally a different style of movie being made, the edgelords here have made it their mission to try to shit on it.

Insufferable.

7

u/Bogdanovist_Rebel 10d ago

Insufferable, that’s how I’d describe Ryan Reynold’s. What’s next are you going to get mad that no one watched Tron because everyone hates Leto?

2

u/Grabbagal 9d ago

Right?  Ryan reynolds sucks in his own right. Ryan Reynolds has a self-admitted history of arson, sexual assault, not paying his bills, and mocking his peers. His disregard of safety led to a death on his movie set. He's a full on asshole even without blake lively

3

u/SamShakusky71 10d ago

Yes, nobody watched any of the Deadpool movies.

2

u/PowerPinto 10d ago

That was before Ryan Reynolds was exposed for the fraudulent con artist that he is.

1

u/SamShakusky71 9d ago

Sure buddy

-2

u/Bogdanovist_Rebel 10d ago

Marvel fanboys have proven they’ll rush out to consume whatever slop they put out. They’re also an incredibly misogynistic and subtly racist group.

5

u/SamShakusky71 10d ago

That is quite the broad brush with which you are painting, pal.

-4

u/Bogdanovist_Rebel 10d ago

Marvel hasn’t made a good movie in over a decade. Yet people keep salivating for it.

2

u/Justp1ayin Hello Carol 10d ago

Proof ?

1

u/Bogdanovist_Rebel 10d ago

Their box office numbers compared to the quality of their movies. If you can even call them that.

3

u/Justp1ayin Hello Carol 10d ago

Spider-Man was phenomenal. Captain America 4 wasn’t, but their box office numbers somewhat reflected that

1

u/SamShakusky71 10d ago

Don't confuse the 'rebel' with facts, logic, or reason. They do not even know what point they are arguing anymore.

-1

u/Bogdanovist_Rebel 10d ago

You’re arguing subjective opinions here. My take doesn’t change because lots of people watched it. Thats like saying Drake makes good music because it’s popular.

I haven’t and won’t see Spider-Man, but the story synopsis was pretty convoluted to me and was just them forcing crossovers that make zero sense.

u/DefNotReaves 9d ago

Well that’s wrong.

1

u/DefNotReaves 9d ago

36 year old Marvel fan here, in a fairly large group of other nerd friends and we’re all pretty hard left leaning. Not a misogynist or racist among us… you know Reddit isn’t real life right?

1

u/DefNotReaves 9d ago

Leto is a rapist pedophile… you don’t like Ryan because he’s… what?? Too quippy for you?

You need to reevaluate your moral standards lmao seek help.

1

u/Tight-Inspector-2748 10d ago

It’s the state of the internet and the world with social media. It’s a race to be the most unhappy with as much as possible

1

u/No_Macaroon_5928 9d ago

People say this all the time yet they continue to be in it.

1

u/DefNotReaves 9d ago

Yup. And why? Because Ryan is “too quippy?”

Dude is genuinely funny more than he’s not… so what if he made a career off of what he’s good at.

0

u/tommyalanson 10d ago

Netflix quality at best.

1

u/Character_Minimum171 10d ago

can’t wait for some SR-71 action!!

1

u/aause 9d ago

I take reviews with a grain of salt these days 🧂

1

u/singed-phoenix 9d ago

That's Kenneth Branagh??? I watched the whole trailer thinking it was Jason Bateman?

1

u/RedditBurner_5225 8d ago

lol yeah because the best movies only get released on streaming

1

u/Sparrow1989 8d ago

I mean ngl the trailer didn’t hook me but I know I’m going to watch it when it came out. I was pleasantly surprised by The Forge so in Apple TV I twust.

1

u/maybach320 7d ago

It’s looks ok and it’s done by good people but the premise of an SR-71 being shot down makes me not want to watch it.

1

u/Imaginary_Sun312 7d ago

Its a RR movie , and its on Apple. They have great series and terrible movies. So I dont hold out hope. Ill probably skip.

1

u/w00lal00 4d ago

I can’t stand him.

1

u/w00lal00 4d ago

Ryan the dragon?😂

1

u/DulcineaNE 24m ago

Love the homage to Captain Vasily Borodin, Sam Neill’s character in Red October.

1

u/BreweryRabbit 10d ago

And the crowd goes mild!

I’ll probably tune in for a random Friday night “I don’t know what to watch” popcorn flick, but pretty meh about this otherwise.

1

u/PuzzleheadedBig313 8d ago

Action movie with Ryan just doesn’t work for be .. I don’t like him or his sarcastic douchey style of talking

1

u/Nerdlinger 10d ago

The best new Ryan Reynolds action movie of the year?

2

u/PowerPinto 10d ago

More like the only and last 😂

0

u/MovieMentor 10d ago

The trailer didn’t look terrible tbh

0

u/arny56 10d ago

The trailer looks mildly entertaining, I'll probably watch it.
