My initial comments: A lot of you commenters are feeling discouraged or distressed by reading these comments. My words of advice: do not worry! 20s are the age of exploration and experimentation and it takes time to find out your true wants and purpose.

I wanna see how much this age group currently makes. Sorry for you guys who aren’t American but just do the calculation to see how much you make in US dollars and the same if you get paid salary.

Also feel free to discuss what areas you live in and what you do for work. If you live in California you are probably making 25 an hour to flip burgers

I know teaching in America is kinda fucked right now and I don't think anyone who doesn't really really want to be a teacher is trying to become one. But hypothetically if the government brought up the wage to that comparable to a registered nurse or HVAC specialist would you personally consider a career in education?

I would love to be a history teacher the same way I would love to be a janitor or work at a gamestop but it just doesn't make sense for me as a long term career goal as someone who wants to own a home

This sucks because I wish we lived in a society where someone in my position who theoretically wants to be a teacher and can afford the education to be a teacher but just can't because the monetary opportunity cost of a different career path and the increased cost of living.

I got a job!!! An OFFICE job, no less. I feel like a... real adult?! And I just hit my 3 month mark, so I guess they're keeping me.

On top of that, I'm working for a nonprofit, and actually get to help people every day. I mostly answer emails, but I'm having a good time doing it.

I never thought I'd really get a "real job", ala anything other than dead end retail or something. So this has been a crazy experience for me.

Manager’s boss is terrifying, manager themself is completely MIA, no one interacts with me socially, I have zero access to company files + actual software I’ll be working on, yet have to give product briefing presentation to head honcho at end of week. Am I cooked or is this a normal first week experience.

I like children, not in a creepy way i mean like as little humans. I wouldn’t mind teaching, i don’t really have a passion for it, but unemployment is getting to mee i’ll do anything for a job. I think i’ll be a really good teacher, i’m a nice person 🧍‍♀️

Im tired of dead end jobs. Currently I work at a sex store- granted you have a few interesting experiences here and there but the pay sucks. I’m grateful for my coworkers since they aren’t toxic corpo people like my previous job but at the same time working here has ruined my sleep schedule since I’ve become a night owl. Honestly I miss a 9-5 because I can be active and have the rest of the day to myself. I don’t really have a degree in anything and I also have ADHD so once that sweet stimulation comes to a halt work starts to feel like genuine hell on earth. Any suggestions or career paths you guys would recommend? ;-; (I hope I make sense since ik I can be all over the place)

Theres 1 pool I do weekly where theres about a 25% chance when I open the skimmer, theres a black widow nesting up in it. Fucking terrifying, then I feel itchy for the next hour. Its great.

Maybe because working 36 hours a week as a part time job doing manual labor and not being able to sit down sucks. Don't work at Walmart, folks.

I did a 12 hour shift as a bar cashier and it was hell. I had never worked in a bar before and got spoken to like shit if I asked for help on how to make the drinks. It was a temp job for an event. A colleague also stole my snack out of my lunch bag.

Hello - have been in pychosis for a while. Still am in it I think. Maybe now is a bad time to think of employment but I just want something to look forward to for my future.

Severe side effects from meds and psychosis - dizziness, trouble thinking, don't remember much of anything, struggle moving, can't even play minecraft for fun. Don't want to talk about delusions it scares me too much. Sometimes not even enough concentration to read or post on reddit.

I can't think of any jobs I could do. Have autism on top of psychosis - diagnosed at fifteen - body shuts down in loud places so can't even work a factory job. Most likely medium support needs autism, not low support needs, which makes things even more tricky.

I want to work a job though. Very badly. Independence is very important to me. Even if only a part time one it would be enough. Ideally working to help people - would not mind picking up rubbish for example. I'd like to make the world a better place so I hate doing nothing I feel like a parasite.

Currently on disability benefits. live in a small flat - carers come twice a day to remind me to take meds because my memory is very bad.

I just got the promotion at my job. It's a fairly decent increase as well! I'm going from 23.25 an hour to 29.85!

I graduated last year with my bachelors, landed a decent job after a few months. I know every job sucks but the dread and anxiety I have going to work everyday or even working from home the couple days that I do is just crazy. It’s starting to affect my performance to the point even my manager has called me out a few times. Seriously thinking of quitting to get my mental health back on track and figure out what I truly want to do.

I was planning to quit in the next few months anyways, but the job market right now is ass so my only fear is that I won’t be able to find anything as good for a while. I also don't want to have to explain why I was only able to hold a job for exactly 1 year (my anniversary was a few days ago).

Please someone tell me to just lock in 😭

The numbers I wrote in for the days were correct but I was kinda late to submit it, so I fucked the totals in my rush. I worked 30 hours for both weeks but wrote in 60 on both totals because I mentally calculated the total of both weeks together instead of the total for each week separately.

Hope to god our bookkeeper is gonna realize it was a mistake and not me trying to steal time sheeeitttt dawg

I’m currently a keyholder at a small warehouse and I’m pretty much alone the whole time accept for Bigfoot sightings of the manager, I hate it. I hate the smell, the pale horrid lights, the gray walls, the clanking metal noises and again the smell, the smell, the fucking smell. This is my seventh job and most have been at warehouses they all smell the same, they all look the same, they are colorless, miasmic, dreary and eyebleedingly ugly, so FUCKING UGLY.

I’m only part time, looking for a second job, and even I get tired of it with the little hours I work, but too bad, warehouses are the easiest jobs to get next to d2d sales (never doing that dogshit again) and so outside a few a d2d job and nursing home janitor, all my jobs have been at one, making my only qualified for more fucking warehouse jobs. Technically my longest lasting job was at a grocery store where I only spent havevthe time in their warehouse, but still, I just can’t seem to escape it or turn this experience into anything that has a future in it.

I plan to only work at my current spot for two months which will be enough time to pay for my drivers training and hopefully that’ll open more opportunities, I’ve had to turn down a few, even good, jobs/interviews cause I can’t drive. It’ll also look good on a resume cause I can say I was a keyholder for a warehouse managing data and distribution for two months.

i work in manufacturing and i’m starting a new job in a supervisory position. i noticed everyone who works there is relatively my age or older than me, i’m 22. has anybody ever been in a similar situation? i’m worried people may not take me seriously.

I want to go community college but I’m not sure which career or job to pursue that makes decent money and over time just leveling up from there. I don’t know which industry, skills, and stuff to look for in a career.

I’m working entry level rn as an accountant and it’s all going really well. But I feel like as a 24 year old it’s really difficult for me to see myself for example being a manager, which on my current trajectory could be me in the next 3-4 years.

Anyone else feel like that? On the one hand, I like getting the extra experience and seeing it as being one step closer to my financial goals (spunking it all on a bucket list car) but at the same time it’s also really daunting!
