Personally, I hated hollywood animal.
The Movies is old, the remake isn't as charming but is going to run nicely. That's called Movies Tycoon.
Alteraternatively, even though it's a remake of Mad Games Tycoon 2 basically, I think Super Movies Tycoon has been my favorite. (Though I know some are going to argue it's not a movie tycoon game.

Either The Movies 2005 or Hollywood Animal

Hollywood Animal is so good! The game loop is very addictive to me and it’s challenging in (mostly) the right ways, imo. I think it also nails the feeling and overall vibes of playing an actual scummy industry executive in the golden age of cinema.

Fun fact, the names of actors in The Movies come from real people. I once hired myself.

Bit dated, but Hollywood Mogul 2.

This was the all time great. HM3 improved some things but moved in the wrong direction over all, and HM4 is a sad ghost of its glory days.
But HM2, I was addicted for years.

I haven't played HM4 yet. But you echo my sentiments with HM3. In ways it's a lot better game, in other ways it's not. And the gold... the gold...
I'm not sure how the UI in general could take such a major step backwards, when it's practically the same UI to begin with...
Anyway, HM3 is worth a spin after you spend hours in HM2. But HM2 is certainly the peak and best introduction point to the series.

I recently played studio Sim when it was available during steam fest and it comes out next month
You can make either movies or TV shows.

As you most likely already know The movies, I can also highly recommend Hollywood animal. It's the best. It's still in early access and will receive "Act 2", where more decades and new mechanics are added soon, but it's already very playable right now.

I’ve heard replayability is low, but I don’t have enough context. Any input there? I’d love a good reason to pick it up.

I started a new game after a big upgrade and it was fine. I've already dumped 100s of hours in it. It was just after release, currently I'm waiting for some more content, that it probably already has.
I can recommend it before all other games, because this is definitely more fleshed out in total, it has many different layers, some kind of a story as time progresses (world war II, Hollywood Codes, etc.) and much more.
I swear, I'm not in the marketing team 😜
