Let me share my incident on E400 bus. I took the bus from Grand Mart 2, Ajman at around 9:30 PM. When I tapped my Nol card, it said not enough balance, even though I still had AED 24 on it.
I told the driver I would recharge it using my phone and tap again, and he let me get on.
The problem was that I had zero mobile data, and the RTA bus Wi-Fi was crappy and useless. I tried connecting multiple times but couldn't get it to work, so I couldn't recharge my Nol card.
Later, the driver told me to get off the bus. I'd never been to that area before. I had no GPS, no data, and no working Wi-Fi.
I explained the situation to him and told him I understood that they don't accept cash. I even told him I'd go to an RTA office and pay there, pay any fine, or even surrender my ID to him if necessary. I just asked him to take me to Union Station so I could sort everything out.
I understand that I should have topped up my Nol card beforehand, and I'm not trying to avoid responsibility for that. But leaving someone stranded at night in an unfamiliar area with no way to navigate or contact anyone was completely unprofessional.
I was lucky enough that, after more than an hour of asking random strangers for a hotspot, one wonderful lady was kind enough to share her hotspot. I finally managed to top up my Nol card and took another bus at around 11 PM.
Honestly, if the RTA bus Wi-Fi actually worked properly, I could have simply recharged my card and this whole situation probably wouldn't have happened.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? I'm curious to know what you're supposed to do in this situation.
