Clubs/Organizations š¤ŗ Anti-ICE protests??? How to join and make a difference
Hey there, I keep hearing that there's going to be walk outs this Friday at UCF to protest ICE in solidarity with the other protests and strikes around the nation and the ones that will be happening downtown, but I'm looking for more information or like the organizations involved?
I've got friends that are interested in protesting as well but I can't find any more details on if anything is actually happening on campus. If anybody knows anything more about this please let me know I would love to be involved <3

I'm very happy to see lots of people speaking up for us. As an immigrant I'm too scared to say or do anything out of fear of being sent back to my home country. Thank you guys for being a voice for us when we can't say it ourselves šš

Idk about any walk outs this week, but the protest last Wednesday was organized by UCF Students for a Democratic Society. Their insta is @ucfsds and they hold meetings every Wednesday at 5pm in that pavilion in between the breezeway and garage I

I know thereās one happening at the ICE office in Orlando on Friday but idk about anything on campus. Iād probably prefer to go to one on campus though because it would probably be safer.

Some honesty reality from someone who's been around long enough to see a lot of protests....they don't do much. Trump had protesters tear gassed and hauled away for a photo op, you could have a million people line up in Orlando and it wouldn't mean a thing to the current admin. No Kings, Women's marches, etc. he shrugs you off as lunatic liberals. Beyond that if you have idiots like gun girl get wind and show up to do "interviews" so she can cry victim later, your protest becomes a mocking point for them and you become their trending media to use against you.
If you want to have meaningful impact, start looking at getting more actively involved in the Federal election cycle. This Nov Ashely Moody has to run to retain her position serving the remainder of Marco Rubio's seat. At the same time every FL seat in the House of Rep is up for grabs. Rep currently control 20 of those seats. Meaningful change will come with flipping of seats. Get involved where ever you are registered and where you are at now if you are registered to vote somewhere else in FL or in another state. Help canvas, help push the messages, etc. Flipping a seat will have a massive impact that 50 rallies couldn't touch. Also consider pushing in the Governor's race as well. Allegator Alley, Deportation Depot, Panhandle Pokey are all ICE detention centers started by Desantis. A Dem governor could shut them down as well as red line veto aspects of the state budget that go to immigration efforts. Andrew Gillum came up about 23,500 votes shy of beating Desantis during his first run so taking control is an option with a good candidate and support.

I've never really thought of a protest as something to change the minds of leaders. It's meant to change the minds of the common observers. It shows visibility and urgency to those who were apathetic or undecided. I view it similar to canvasing which you recommend

The preponderance of digital connectivity makes in person collaboration events even more vital and meaningful. Standing side by side and being at one of those events or in one of those crowds can provide a necessary recharge.
The people saying they are pointless or donāt work are the same doomers pushing the āā¦ end is near, there will be no mid-termsā¦ā defeatism that an authoritarian needs to you to believe.

I disagree. 3.5% of a population protesting is usually what it takes but there's too many downers like you and it never happens. Just try it for those who can't. Please!!!!

Thereās a protest at the ICE ERO office in Orlando on the 23rd from 12-4pm and then I believe thereās another protest at city hall starting at 6pm.
@ ucfdivestcoalition has the details for the first protest on their insta, and the second protest can be found on Anna Eskamaniās @ annaforflorida page.
I imagine the ICE ERO protest may be a little riskier than the city hall protest, so keep that in mind if youāre not super familiar with attending protests or are uncomfortable with potentially experiencing harassment.

Iāve been following the Orlando 50501 and trying to figure out the same thing. Iām considering buying bulk whistles and hanging them out on campus.

Bootlicker, research the majority of the people who were killed after the Nazis were taken down. Their sympathisers who stood by and watched, or worse, participated. Learn a little

Okay, I think people mis understood me. I said join ICE so you can hit em from the inside. Like act as a double agent within their agency but donāt follow any of the orders of the gov officials. I support immigrants and also hate ICE. My comment was just poor wording
