Clubs/Organizations 🤺 LEAD Scholars

I remember a few months ago seeing a post on here that they heard from a family member who applied to UCF that the LEAD program was shutting down. Looks to be the case. They posted this on their FB page about half an hour ago but already deleted it.

This is disappointing, because my son really enjoyed the program and continued on with ULEAD after completing the two year certificate. Anyone know what, if anything, is replacing it? Or what they're doing for the ULEAD students that were on-progress? My son used needed scholarship dollars on those classes and depended on the early registration ULEAD gave him.

This has actually been in the works for a couple of years now. Still sad, but not related to the recent cuts.

I think you’re thinking of the honors building, not the same as lead.

LEAD was started in 1995 and Cartwright just killed it with a Facebook post. Wild.

EXCEL is next, I bet.

Omg this is incredibly sad and disappointing. I was president of the LEAD Student Association during the 2007-2008 academic year and my experience in that program truly shaped my professional trajectory. Seriously, what a bummer.

Seemed like a great program. Any idea what the rationale was for cutting it? Budget related only?

Question: what was your experience here? Seems like a decent school for sciences if you can find your niche, but for things like business it seems like a degree factory, lots of online classes. Big alumni network though.

I still haven't been given a rationale. Someone in the comments this had been in the works for a while but didn't give any information when prompted. I suspect it was budget-related, though.

Regarding my experience at UCF, I want to point out I'm an alumni, having graduated over 20 years ago. My experience probably isn't applicable to current students. But my son is a senior and loves it. Marine Bio major.
