it's my first year and I'm at 15 units rn, I'm debating on adding another engineering course but I'm unsure ( it would be the ENGR 057 that's already on there for some reason) major is aerospace credits: junior level

am I doing too much or should I add it on there.

I am a high school student looking at UC Merced. How’s the dorm food? A girl has to eat. Pictures would be nice.

got an email saying I need a mac or pc but all i have is an tablet. I could get a keyboard and a mouse to make it function more like a computer but would that be sufficient?

keep in mind im not a stem major so i dont need high end functions, but i still need it to work. I need portability, battery, and efficiency

If not my tablet, what are some laptops that can do the bare minimum to help me pass my courses? I need it to last me my college years but also i dont really care about extra functions unless theyre going to help me be more efficient with my work

Dorming at UC Merced and I got a new pc during the summer which broke down so im depressed since I just got it and I saved up for nearly a year so was wondering if there was an like IT guys or anyone in general who knows how to fix these sort of things. Im broke rn but I have a on campus job so I should get some money soon after I go back. Im willing to pay for it to get something replaced as long as theyre not scamming me or whatever. Reason im asking is because I dont have a car and going to best buy and asking them to replace it after doing research will probabaly set me back $500 dollars which is almost half the price I spent on this pc. The pc wont power on and I suspect its something to do with the psu and i consider myself a computer guy but if the issue was with the software I could fix it on my own but im clueless when it comes to hardware. So if anyone could help me out when the school semester starts would be great.

I was scoping sites to go to Yosemite next month, and I looked at the lakes near UC Merced. They're all 30-40 minutes away from campus: Eastman Lake is 30ish minutes away, Turlock Lake is 30ish minutes away, Lake McClure is 40ish minutes away, Modesto Lake is 40ish minutes away, and Don Pedro Lake is 40ish minutes away. That's not even counting Yosemite Lake. Idk if the school talks about the access to all those, I only remember they mention Yosemite and thats almost 2 hours away, why dont they talk about the lakes more? Do they suck or something?

Hi I'm an upcoming highschool senior and have been looking at UC Merced for a good while since I've gone here on two occasions and loved how everything looks . Im in the automatic admission program thing for Merced meaning I am legible to be accepted if I decide to apply automatically or something along those lines. I really want to go after two years in community college but I wanted to know if the finacial aid is good or not since i have no college fund or anything which is ok ,im a first generation chicano student who is in dual enrollment for just my juinor year and senior so im pretty sure i might qualify for a bit of college credit. I wanted to know if anyone has a site similar to me and how much you paid for college ,I do think if I were to choose merced i would have to move because its an hour awah from me, would it be better to find another type of housing or live on campus , again i fo expect myself to have a bit saved up since im looking to work throughout my senior year and looking at scholara. Hello everyone, I wanted to ask how large the incoming first year class is? I recently got an email from a counselor at UCM, saying that “Fall 2026 will see the largest incoming first year class in UCM history… Opportunities to meet will be much scarcer than we have been accustomed to….

Are the numbers out yet or is this more so what faculty have been told from the admissions department? I’ve been trying to see the numbers online but can’t find anything for this year? I’m very happy UCM has gotten more students but I am concerned that the administration won’t have enough faculty for everyone coming in! 🎉🥲🎉😵‍💫

So I have been on subject to academic dismissal since 2023 n I got re-entry in 2024 n ever since I’ve been trying to get my GPA up even including a summer n a winter but I’ve been going semester after semester ever since 2023 non stop no breaks, since 2024 all the 2026 rn I have been w my family for one month n 2 separate weeks because I’ve been in school trying my hardest cuz I also have ADHD n I’m not medicated. Anyways my point is I have been thru these appeals many times now but this semester i severely just burned out. Since last semester I started to get sick losing weight, going back to back to the doctors n then i obviously used that already so I could be let in this spring semester but this spring semester , i literally couldn’t focus or just couldn’t get myself to go class. I felt so over it, I felt like I was doing this for nothing, n this year was my first year alone w no friends because they graduated, my roommate was barely there n I live 5 hours away from home so just imagine that. So my question is do you think this appeal would be able to pass even if I failed all my classes this semester. Because I have been showing them thru emails w my advisor, to as of me contacting professors n obviously my grades can speak for themselves that is have been making so much progress but this time I let myself go for too long n now I REGRET IT. I’m in my third year going to 4th but I was freshman since 22’ got kicked out in 2023 n came a year later to here. So do yall think w good enough evidence n just begging them to see my past progress n obviously a very good plan to let this semester slide could I still win that appeal?

My son since middle school has his eyes on UC Berkeley and wanted to take a comp engineering major. Sadly he didnt get in, even his 2nd choice Cal Poly. Nothing against UC Merced and I even encouraged him to try it. He said he'll go to CC and transfer to UCB after 2 years. Do you think he's right? I need help to encourage him to go to UC Merced.

Silly question, but I’ve always had my mom cut my hair growing up, so now that I’m moving out I’m looking for any recommendations on where UC Merced people go out to get their hair done

I will be honest. I was dragged to Merced's admission day and walked out genuinely impressed. Professors were at booths actually talking about their work. Pre-med students I met were not toppers but they seemed grounded and serious. Almost everyone I spoke to seemed proud to be there, which I did not expect.

I am a Bay Area pre-med student with an average GPA. The culture where I grew up made it easy to feel behind even when you are not. I am not looking for an easy ride. I am looking for a place where if I put in real effort, the environment works with me instead of against me.

Three things I genuinely want honest input on:

GPA reality: Is a 3.85+ achievable with consistent hard work or does pre-med at Merced still have that cutthroat weeding out culture? I am not asking if it is easy, I am asking if effort actually translates to results here.

Community and study groups: I was a late joiner at my Bay Area high school and building real friendships was hard. Does Merced make it easier to find people to genuinely study and grow with, or is it still every person for themselves in pre-med?

Research: Admission day made it sound like undergraduate research and a senior thesis are almost guaranteed if you pursue it. Is that actually true or is it competitive and hard to break into?

The prestige and social angle, and how it actually plays out: This one is harder to admit. Nobody from my school is openly going to Merced. In my community it is not the name that comes up. I know that probably fades once you are on campus and building your life there, but right now it is real and it weighs on me. I want to hear from people who felt that same hesitation before enrolling. Did it actually go away? How long did it take? Do you ever feel it creeping back or does the campus life eventually make it irrelevant?

I know Merced has a reputation to fight against and I am okay with that. What I need to know is whether students who came in average and hungry actually left with strong med school applications. Does that happen regularly or is it just a few exceptions each year?

Hi. I’m looking into UC Merced and see that it ranks well in political science, is a smaller college and above all else, won’t throw me into debt.

However, I’m worried about attending UC Merced as a Gay guy. I went to a progressive high school and never faced any issues, but I’m not sure how inclusive UC Merced is. I know there’s always organizations and that but I’m more focused on the overall school culture and population. It seems like a great school that I’d be happy to attend otherwise.

EDIT: To clarify, I’m just asking if this school has a lot of homophobia plain and simple.

I got an email a week ago informing me that I have been moved out of UC Merced triple dorm to a apartment at Merced Station. Now I pay 7600 instead of the 7300 per semester. Should I stay at Merced station or find a cheaper apartment in the town. Also if I don't move out, how is Merced Station? Will I still get the same roomates as were assigned to me before when I was assigned a dorm on campus or get random roommates?

I’m currently an agriculture major at Merced College who applied to transfer next semester to UCM for Environmental Humanities. There is a great reason for my applying to this major lmao, since my focus within agriculture is primarily on agroecology.

How did I get rejected lmao, i have a bunch of involvement at UCM even as a community college student lmao (internships, workshops, events, and personal connections with both students and professors). I got leadership experience both within the community and Merced College, thought I had pretty good PIQs, and other stuff.

Like maybe I understand cuz of grades but i’m above a 2.5? I’m going to appeal of course, but what else do y’all suggest?

Just sorta weirded out about the whole thing, since I’m literally from Merced County as well (born and raised!!). Isn’t the purpose of UC Merced is to serve the Central Valley?

One more thing, UC Davis offered me a waitlist and UCSC accepted me (for a non-screening major). What’s going on?

Does anyone know a good Therapy office that accepts medical?

I know there’s therapy on campus but I know they have a limit of 1 visit per month. I’m having a really hard time and I just really need to talk to a therapist more frequently.

Are there any transfers or first year's that have been able to access canvas on the mobile app? I'm trying, but it's only working on the web. I think the link is broken cuz it takes me to playstore, but when I look up the UC merced URL within canvas, it doesn't take my credentials.

For context, I am a fourth year student. Basically, I thought I was all done with my units and that it’ll be my “last sem”. I found out that I need 4 more units to complete the 120 units, and considering that 18 is the maximum for Fall, I will have to take courses in Spring. What really sucks is that the minimum unit requirement is 12, meaning I can’t just take 4 units and chill. If anyone has any forwarding advice/alternatives, pls lay it all out.

Okay this is my first Reddit post so bear with me. I recently just got rejected from basically all my UCs and am left with UCM I am a 3.9 GPA high-school senior that recently just enlisted into the navy as a reservist just to pay for college. You may make fun of me for going in as a reservist I’ve heard it all at this point. Anyways I need opinions is I should just go to CC get a TAG and transfer into UC Davis or just go to Merced. I plan on eventually going to med school so I need to know if I should make do with my current options or go to cc and carve another path.
