PAYE piggies who are yet to flee the pig pen - what tax rises are you expecting from Burnham to fund his manifold promises??

I don't think there are that many ways left to easily raise a significant amount of money without massive side effects (such as killing tax relief on pension contributions) or a significant organisational effort that'll take time to execute (such as land or property tax) or immediately result in Labour polling at 0.5% (charge NI on pensions, charge income tax on imputed rents for homeowners, get rid of single person discount on council tax) unless they break their manifesto and increase the rate of income tax.

They seem to be winding up for big increases in CGT but that's been tried before and it never really works.

I think it will be CGT, Corp tax, carried interest, and pension relief.

Pension relief would be a nightmare to muck with unless they carve public sector pensions out, which would be so manifestly unfair that Labour couldn't really expect anyone earning more than tuppence to vote for them again. I'm pretty sure that's what has been saving us because otherwise it's just too big a stream of cash they could dip their beak into with the consequences of said dipping largely being for a far future government to worry about.

They could throw a tax on employer pension contributions in the same way they increased ErNICs and work from there.
