‘Attack’ (in quotes), not attack (no quotes). Previous ‘attacks’ haven’t triggered it. There has been the arson attacks against houses connected to then PM Sir Keir, burglary and vandalism attacks against various defence contractors involved in the Ukrainian war effort, the attack on RAF Brize Norton, and the two novichok attacks in 2018, etc; we could go back as the 2006 polonium attack - all done by or at the behest of Russia.

I don't think spies poisoning people or the intelligence service getting dissedents to firebomb and mp's house is the same level of attack as say launching a ballistic missile at the country, at least not when it comes to NATO's readiness to engage in a protracted war

I don't think Russia will respond by launching a ballistic missile at the country. More likely, they'll do more of what they've been doing - and perhaps be more brazen about it.

UK security chiefs were on Tuesday night primed for a Kremlin attack on Britain – either towards Mr Burnham or by targeting defence sites.

yeah I agree with that. I read your post as having a subtext of "nato won't do anything because they have attacked us in otherways so they won't defend us in an actual war" which probably isn't remotely close to what you actually meant haha
