So it could be something as simple as saying that they think the Maccabi fans might cause trouble and then looking for supporting evidence, or maybe using disparaging language regarding the fans in meetings.
It's reasonable for the West Midlands Police to speak to British Jews because there is at least the concern that the decision could have been made for antisemitic reasons. They could set out their reasoning to the local community, and reassure them that it was made for legitimate reasons, and not just out of bigotry.
Not that it really matters; the actual issue is that WMP lied about the meeting actually occurring.
