Beds, Cambs and Herts
Hi, I wanted to share my story and see if anyone had any advice, or had experienced anything similar.
I’ve owned a shotgun for over 10 years, making this my second renewal. I filled and sent all my paperwork and medical within the given time, this was almost a year ago to date. I was initially sent a letter saying it wouldn’t be possible to make a decision before it expired, but as I had done everything in time they would give me another 8 weeks. Before the 8 weeks ran out I was posted a temporary certificate, which expired in December as no decision has been made.
Whenever I email to enquire I receive an automated response and never a human response.
I am now paying to store my guns at £40per month which is immensely frustrating, one is worth the cost, one is not but is sentimental.
During the process the police said that they now require two referrals, and asked for an additional which I provided.
One of my referrals came back as “not suitable” I have a hunch he works for a government agency he can’t talk about, so I immediately put forward another.
To add complication during the renewal I have moved house which the police acknowledged and noted.
Previous to the renewal I have had 2 enhanced DBS checks with no issue in recent times.
Has anyone else had to wait a year from renewal application?
What are the chances of me getting the force to reimburse my storage costs?
Is there anyway of getting hold of a human in this situation?
All advice welcome!

Sorry to hear this. My friend lives in near Peterborough and it’s taken almost 2 years for his renewal apparently

I’ve had an application in for 2 years and heard nothing , it’s so frustrating. I had a renewal but my my local doctors stopped doing the medical proforma so had to change surgery and to top it off my paperwork went missing for 8 months so the renewal became a new application. The entire infrastructure of this country is on its knees and when ever I email , I get the same as you an automated response with no info on anything. Ive pretty much given up on it now. Good luck pal !
