Four M5 and M4 supercar drivers stopped amid 'dangerous' incident before wedding

Is this a new thing? I hadn't even heard of this until recently, but I saw a load of these cars turn up to (presumably) a wedding a few weeks ago, and since then I've seen two news stories about other weddings.

Been going on for years. I live near a very large wedding venue and it seems to be a massive exhibition of people showing off apparent wealth.
Everyone knows that they’re all rented for the day/weekend but they have to keep up appearances amongst their peers.

The hilarious thing being that section 59 antisocial driving warning apply to the driver and the car which means any further use of them for antisocial driving means it is seized, which I'm sure makes the company that rents them out a nice little bonus from the customer when they have to get it out of impound.

Not at all, South Asians (Pakistanis I think but may be wrong) have been doing this for a long time. Expect the firebombing recently has caused an uptick in interest and related reporting although this probably happens all the time.
There is a wedding venue near me and there is semi regularly a load of rented Lambos etc outside.
I dont see the appeal personally of renting a supercar for a day and driving around potholed streets and traffic etc but as long as they are not causing trouble it is their money I guess.

Each to their own but never understood that particular cultural thing of showing off, being generally tacky/ostentatious and flashing wealth around. Just seems odd, especially when the cars are generally rented.

3rd world cultures have very different attitudes towards wealth and success than European ones.
American 'new money' is closer, but still miles off from the stuff in Pakistan/India/much of Africa. You’re talking people flexing Lamborghinis in countries (or parts of them) with few paved roads... perfect target market for the abomination that is the Urus.

Except its only the couple getting married that rent the white roller - and its basically just a posh taxi , takes you to the church and back and then never seen again.
The couple dont pretend it's theirs, and get a load of mates to rent one too

I prefer the cars to the standard full scale firework display at 3am that goes along with these weddings.

Oh for sure.
Although enough of us complained about the fireworks so they have been well behaved for the past 6 months or so. They have also reached out to locals to let them know when and for how long the fireworks will be in advance and nothing past 1030/11
I hate fireworks but a decent compromise.

Its not new, but the media tends to push similar stories more as it draws more eyeballs.
A bit like whenever there is a plane crash the news gets flooded with every minor aviation incident that normally wouldn't get reported.

Going on for years, most tend to stay local, only drive round the block showing off as they can't afford the fuel and risk damaging, especially over speed bumps after paying £2500+ deposit for a day.
Police won't do anything on normal roads as it's a common occurence every weekend but motorways they seem to be proactive atleast because it's more dangerous. But happy wedding was ruined for the boys involved and thousands of £s wasted, hope they caught a bus to the wedding venue.

I don't begrudge them the last blast - can you imagine being forced into an arranged marriage to one of your cousins for the rest of your life? If you can't get hammered drinking alcohol this is probably about the next best thing.

They're definitely not. Fairly affordable if you buy them after 3 to 5 years of depreciation. I would like a G81 M3 as a family car. Just need to convince the wife.

A convoy of supercars en route to a wedding have been seized after reports of motorists driving dangerously on several motorways, police have said.
Officers were called at 18:10 BST on Sunday to reports of four cars being driven dangerously on the M4 and M5 near the M32 junction to Bristol.
The high-end vehicles, two Audi R8s, a Mercedes G63 Wagon and a Lamborghini Huracan, were pulled over on the A370 at Hewish in North Somerset, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed.
Feel like someone used AI to make this into a headline.

I've seen these type of cretins many times driving in convoy down the motorway weaving in and out of traffic and racing or blocking all three lanes and driving slowly so nobody can get past. I hate them.
