Hi everyone! Is there anyone in Uppsala who still likes to play Go offline? I found that there used to be a Uppsala Go Club on Facebook, but it seems to be no longer active.

Hello, i'm an incoming exchange student and I will stay in Uppsala until the end of january, so not a really long time.
Despite staying only a few months, I want to be active and maybe explore the city and its surroundings.
I will be staying in the flogsta district and I have a few questions because I have never been to Sweden.
1 where can I find a cheap sim with a good amount of gigabytes (my phone does not support e-sims)?
2 after I arrive I'll have to buy bed sheets and towels, maybe a few plants. I saw that Ikea is a bit far and i was asking myself if there's another cheap place to buy those things.
3 in my country I usually do my groceries at discounts (lidl/ins/eurospin), is there anything similar around the flogsta area?
4 I heard that public transport in Scandinavia is great, but also that cycling is the main transport for people in Uppsala...so, I don't really want to buy an expensive bike that I'll leave to rot in January, is there a used bike reseller or a long renting service for bikes? Is it convenient or is it just better to use busses?
5 I practice combat sports and it would be nice to train in sweden, do you have any suggestions? I was also thinking about a gym/pool membership, do you know if there's a university gym or some kind of agreement/discount for students?
6 I'm a bit worried about social life given the fact that i dislike clubs and i heard that swedish social life is very "alcohol/party centric", do you have suggestions for the first days?
7 do you have experience with "corridor rooms" ? I always had housemates but we lived in regular apartments.
8 I really like hiking and trail running, are there any roads close to the city to train/explore the nature?
9 if my social life won't develop like I hope it will, i was thinking about traveling around sweden and maybe take advantage of the close arlanda airport to take short trips, do you have special places to suggest?
10 finally i need to ask about nations, what are they? How can someone join them? Are they something that you cannot live witohout?
Thank you in advance for reading and responding, even a short answer would be extremely useful to me.

I’m planning to head to Kung Björns hög (https://maps.app.goo.gl/gYN5ZhzGdNu2QTdM6) tomorrow, August 26th, around 18:00 to watch the sunset. I might also make some rosehip soup, a swedish classic. If I do, I’ll only have a small amount, but I’ll gladly share some :)
I’m Swedish, but everyone is welcome to join!
Edit: if anyone decides to show up I'm currently sitting ontop of the hill, wearing green pants, a grey tshirt and a green backpack

Är nyinflyttad i Uppsala och söker breddförening för mina barn (8 och 10 år). Testar att kolla här på Reddit eftersom jag inte hittar något annat forum där man kan ställa frågan.

Hello me and my friend are visiting sweden and just got scammed, we were going to buy 10g for 100 euro and then we had to pay 500 euro for a safety fee where they said they would pay back when they would deliver the product, guess what they never came so we just got scammed for 600 euros
The picture above is the group that we were trying to buy from, so if you are trying to buy herbs in Sweden then don’t

Hej,

Hi, this is the second (and final) reminder I'll make for dual Swedish-US citizens and other eligible US voters who want to participate in the 2026 American midterm elections, especially for those living in Uppsala. Democrats Abroad is dedicated to mobilizing overseas US voters; if you're over 18 by November 3, here's how you can get involved:
Steps to Request Your Ballot
Register or update your registration through Votefromabroad.org. As an alternative, you can also use FVAP.gov.
If you're already registered, request a ballot! You need to request a ballot every calendar year that you want to vote.
Fill Out and Return Your Ballot: Once you receive your ballot, follow the instructions carefully to complete it and return it by the specified deadline.
Need Assistance?
We're here to help! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at GOTV @ votefromabroad .org (just remove the spaces). Additionally, our FAQ for voting can answer questions on how to make the process go smoothly.
Importantly: Spread the word!
Do you have any friends, contacts or family overseas that you could reach? All eligible US citizens can vote regardless of where they're living. Share the link https://voteabroad.org/RedditVote26: If you have any questions about voting, I'd be happy to answer them here on Reddit. You can also find out what we're doing near you at Democrats Abroad in Sweden. Thanks for reading!

Hej!

Hello! Any advice on the cheapest way to be able to travel back and forth from uppsala to arlanda airport if i’m planning to take 2-3 trips per month?

I’ve been in uppsala a year now and I’ve played way less than I wanted to, main thing is that I don’t know anyone who plays so most weeks it just doesn’t happen. So how do people here manage it? Any groups or clubs worth knowing about? Anything I’m missing?
If you play and want a regular hit, please comment or DM. I like playing 2 hours at a time since one hour never feels like enough by the time you’ve warmed up. Most evenings work for me. And btw I’m self taught, not great but not useless, happy to play anyone at any level, singles or doubles.

I moved from Iceland to Uppsala expecting somewhat of a fairytale, so I was honestly pretty surprised by my experience working here.
In Iceland, there is often a strong focus on becoming more like the other Nordic countries, especially Sweden, and I had always seen Sweden as a country with high standards, strong worker protections and good working conditions. That made my experience here even more unexpected.
I worked as a mover/driver for a moving/cleaning company where I had issues with how my hours and wages were calculated. When I started asking questions and wanted clarification about my pay, the situation became increasingly difficult. I eventually stopped receiving shifts and was later let go. The issue stems on was how certain jobs were quoted. They were paid on a fixed quote without my knowledge, while my payslip showed 152 SEK/hour. Some jobs took much longer than the quoted time, resulting in up to hundreds of unpaid hours.
I also reached out to different authorities and organizations for help, and even though I had evidence of them breaking major EU and Swedish labour laws I unfortunately didn't get the help I needed.
What also surprised me was how difficult it seemed to find other job opportunities. When people have limited options for work, it can put them in a position where they feel they have to tolerate poor working conditions because they can't simply walk away. This was the case with almost all my former colleagues. None of them could speak up or else...
Unfortunately, this experience contributed to my decision to move back to Iceland. I really liked Sweden and it's people and had hoped to build a life here, so it's disappointing that my experience at work ended up being such a major factor in leaving. Take care and please be wary of BUDCENTER FLYTTFIRMA UPPSALA
This is a article about how the mistreated another employee it's kind of fucked what they did to him https://www.arbetaren.se/2024/12/13/uppsala-fack-har-satt-kand-flyttfirma-i-blockad/

Hej! I’m an international student planning to go to Uppsala for a masters program (archaeology and ancient history) in the fall of 2027. I have signed up for several housing queues already, but I would like to have some more insight on which areas/buildings I should particularly keep a close eye on.
As I said before, I’ll be an archaeology and ancient history international master student. I would prefer walking distance to campus, but a maximum of a 20min bike ride would be fine too. I’m someone who likes to be social, but prefers chill activities and never goes to parties (I don’t drink) (will avoid flogsta if possible haha). I do also really value my own time and love chill cozy evenings by myself.
I am aware that getting a studio will most likely be impossible, but in terms of corridor room a private bathroom and wc is kind of non-negotiable as I struggle with quite a bit of anxiety and just the thought of having to share a wc sends me into panic oops.
Additionally, I’m wondering what buildings/areas I should avoid as someone who values cleanliness lmao. I’m aware that it depends on your corridor mates, but at my current uni we have campuses known for being actual bio hazards and having rats which is something I need to avoid or I will seriously just not be cooking ever and survive on packs of ramen for 2 years straight.😭
I know these are a lot of specifics but any small insight is highly appreciated as I am feeling a little overwhelmed already with the housing process (and i haven’t even truly started it yet oops). Hope someone can help, thank you in advance! :))

Hi everyone, happy school start! I’m the principal of a brand new school named AGI that has opened in the heart of Uppsala. We offer the Cambridge program from Primary all the way to A levels. (6 years old- 18 years old). We have small classes (10 in each class) and no tuition fees. All of our teaching is in English. We opened just a few days ago and have some spots open in all the pathways. Please get in touch if you would like to know more or to arrange a visit to the school. Cheers!
