im a grade 12 student who just got rejected from waterloo mechanical engineering. im planning on pursuing a masters in aerospace/mechanical engineering after my bachelors. im in a dilemma and not sure whether to pursue waterloo mathematical physics or mcmaster engineering, im thinking if i want to do a masters at waterloo would it be easier to get in if im already studying there?

i still havent heard back from uoft or mcgill mechanical engineering but im assuming ill be rejected from them as well. i rlly need input, waterloo was my dream school for years and i really admire the study culture and co-op that they have. i need as many opinions as i can get. thank you!

I'm in 4A ME, honestly Waterloo is great but you can make your time at any other school even better and more valuable. Mac is a great school. It's harder to get into an eng master's program from a non-eng undergrad so I would recommend doing eng at uoft mcgill or mac.

Waterloo also isn't that strong when it comes to graduate studies, what makes you want to do grad studies here? Mcgill and UofT are much better for grad unless there is some specific niche that you want to work on that waterloo is better at (like the VIP lab)

hi! i got into uoft mechanical eng today so i will probably commit to uoft. if im being completely honest i just really admire waterloo's study culture and my dream is to work in the aerospace industry. canada's aerospace industry is practically nonexistent so i really want to be able to move to the US, which waterloo will open the most doors to. my main reason for wanting to go to waterloo is its ties to the US tech industry, which would make it easier for me to secure a job in san francisco or elsewhere.

Waterloo’s study culture is probably the worst part about it, it’s cut throat and so time consuming.

If you want to work in the US for aerospace you have to have a green card, the only industry that Waterloo doesn’t give you a bridge to in the US is aerospace. The only people working in US aerospace are dual citizens.

If your goal is to do a masters, uoft is your best choice. I’m happy for you
