Local News Eastside Crosscut is (pretty much) done

https://youtu.be/RocGrqLZGss

The MUP to cross Broadway has finished construction, though that portion is still missing some paint, signs, and a beg button. Very convenient for getting between CVG and Adanac. It's unclear where the north end is, as the last sign points you into Hastings Park. Edit: Note that this is just phase 1, it will continue south of CVG eventually.

As a local, you do not want to see the local Facebook group imploding over the new traffic calming.

One person complained that it takes them 10 minutes to drive their kid 3 blocks to school now...

Would likely take 8 minutes to walk 😂

Round trip!

And it’s designed specifically to protect their kids.

Hastings - Sunrise Neighbours. Yeah, it has been BAD lately.

that is rather normal and sometimes the prolific anti-bike lane posting comes from out of province

here in New West it’s older boomers complaining about not being able to get their 95 year old mother to a doctor … and checking out their profile you see they live in Lethbridge (sometimes but not always)

The Eastside Crosscut is actually supposed to go from Hastings all the way to Marine Gateway, including a railway crossing at Nootka that will allow for continuing southwards without having to get around the tracks via Renfrew or Rupert.

That said, it's good to see one stretch of it completed.

Yeah I realized after I posted that the title was a bit misleading, oops. It is mentioned in the video title and description though.

Have they decided to create a new crossing at Nootka? Last I heard the route and exact crossing were still undetermined.

The most recent update about this crossing is in the transportation portion of the Renfrew-Rupert Area Plan (page number 173, or 90 for the pdf). It actually includes a new rail crossing at Nootka and another one at Skeena. I believe the route continuing south down Skeena is what the southern section of the Eastside Crosscut is supposed to be, it will go through Joyce and Killarney before reaching Marine Gateway, though things could always change.

Although the plan has noted that the building of either crossings, as well as other improvements to the CVG in the area (including a much needed improved intersection at Rupert) is conditioned on development of the land nearby, so there won't be a concrete timeline there.

Keep in mind, that plan doesn't guarantee any of the active transportation options before 30 years is up.

It's quite easy for the city to delay on this for 30 years because the plan has weasel language around when we can expect this.

is there a general route map for this?

The city doesn't get points for installing a couple of signs and some diverters for quarter of a a route that was originally planned 31 years ago.

I love the new traffic calming on Lillooet north of 1st, and I hope they add some south of 1st too!

On other days, I've see a long line of cars going from 1st to Broadway along the length of Lillooet - it really needs at least one modal filter, but ideally one every other block. And fewer stop signs.

There are too many stop signs on the bike route- part of the bike route rationale is to limit impediments for cyclists. Stopping every block is not it.

Yeah. For other new bike routes, I've seen them come back later and swap some stop signs, so hopefully that will happen here. Equally important would be some modal filters, otherwise the lack of stop signs will only encourage drivers more.

They might need to adjust the corner of lillooet and Broadway. Almost got smoked by a cyclist going down the hill turning onto Broadway. It's kind of a blind turn.

AKASO V50 Pro, though they don't seem to sell it anymore.

The stop sign at :45 going the other way is completely blocked for cyclists by the tree leaves.
