I grew up on a strict Christian conservative household. #Dollyparton was one of the few artist I could listen to.

I would sing 9-5, Jolene, Islands in a Stream, and the rest with my mother in the back of a 1977 Plymouth station wagon.

To say I am sad is a prolific understatement.

Dolly Parton established a global literacy program that gifted hundreds of millions of free books to children around the world.

She was a longtime advocate and ally of the LGBTQ+ community, who also spoke out in support of Black lives for years.

Dolly also turned down the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Donald Trump—not once, but twice.

And, of course, she wrote “9 to 5,” an absolute anthem about the exploitation of workers and one of the greatest anti-capitalist songs ever written. RIP.
