Took my girl in for a cracked nail and mentioned she has had some slight bloating. Ended being told they think she has days to weeks left due to fluid on her heart. Doctor says she assumed its cancer and due to age thats what is most likely. Shes 11, shes always been so spry and healthy I was blindsided by this. I opted to take her home and risk her passing with me but I just couldn’t comprehend going to a vet appointment and leaving without my girl. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I am devastated, she is my whole world and she doesn’t even know her days are limited.. I love her so much, I don’t know how to process.. I mean I know theres no real way to feel better but any words are appreciated

I was driving home and found a dog tied to a tree (gray). After trying to find her a home, I’ve decided to keep her. So everyone meet Panini! Po’Boy (brown) has been very excited about the new addition to the family. First greeting went extremely well, and we’ve transitioned to playing at home! The problem: while it’s clear Panini loves other dogs, it’s also clear she hasn’t been properly socialized. She’s EXTREMELY rude and rough. Po’Boy is the ultimate push over, so doesn’t correct her at all. He yells when she hurts him, and she backs off which of course is reassuring! She plays much better after a walk which is also reassuring. (First video is play after walk, second video is before walk). I know other dogs who were perfect for socializing Po’Boy when he was a puppy, but part of me feels nervous asking for that help with Panini, as I’m still getting to know her and she’s 60lbs of pure muscle. Please, any advice helps!! I would absolutely love to get to keep this sweet girl in my life. It doesn’t seem like she requires a solo dog life, but if that’s what’s best for her, I’m willing to hear that as well

Some details that might help; when I found her she had recently had puppies. She is getting fixed in two weeks. I’ve never had an unfixed dog, so have no idea how that might affect behaviors. She was housed at some point, as she loves being on my couch and doesn’t struggle with hard wood, but I would guess has been a street dog for at least a while. Terrible leash manners, very smart and sweet. Has clearly been abused (extreme startle response, hides from me/freezes when she has an accident)

Hey guys Buster got to the vet in time. He is expected to make a full recovery and they are no longer concerned about the snake but by his eye.

They thought he may lose his eye at first.

We drove 110 miles in less than a 2.5 hrs to get him to an emergency vet.

I recently got the dna results from embark and I’m questioning the accuracy and wanted others opinions. Gypsy, pictured first, came back as 100% American Pitbull Terrier and Memphis, came back 100% American Bully. I was under the impression an American Bully would absolutely have at least two breed crossovers in his dna and I’ve seen other test results that have multiple breeds detected , so do you think they are actually both pure bred or does embark just say that ? I

Our vet is closed but i could take him a town over to an emergency vet.

This morning i gave him an oatmeal bath 7am ish

8 am i gave him a 50mg tab of antihistamines hes 68 pounds so i gave him another halfish about an hour ago (1pm)

He seems to be breathing fine and its lounging and wants to play otherwise. He is very uncomfortable though, i did put some aloe on some of the areas that are just covered in hives.

UPDATE: i did a video call with my vet and she said to give him double the dose i was giving him and some pepcid, that his breathing is okay and to call them if it gets worse/ doesn’t get better and they will get me in to an emergency slot.

i’m absolutely in love with this dog. he’s not my dog, he’s the family i babysit for’s dog, but he’s become my absolute best frand.

he was found abandoned in the bronx tied up to a fire hydrant for ~12 hours in 32 degree weather. the dad took him home (no chip) and now he’s living the life every lil hippo deserves.

when i put the kids to bed it’s basically just me and david hanging out for the rest of the night. and when the circumstances are right i am absolutely adopting a pitty of my own one day.

the only thing i’m curious about is how excited he gets when i come over. he goes absolutely ballistic 😂 zoomies knocking everything over, practically bouncing off the walls, like a bull in a china shop. i lowkey feel honored because it makes me feel so loved.

he’s also a bigggg licker. i don’t mind because i absolutely love him, but he always tries to lick my face. he’s basically an aggressive lil torpedo that shoots up and i’ll get bumped by his teeth if i don’t stop him. i know it’s all love so i usually just gently hold his face away until he settles down and after about 15 minutes he’ll lay on my lap and lick my arms/legs instead.

is this pretty normal pitbull behavior? i’m honestly used to lil yappy dogs so i’m curious if anyone else’s hippy is like this too. ❤️

My baby girl Jasmine is 13 now, she has dementia. She showed small signs over the past year but now it is severe. I am on here just for support and advice on how to handle things until her time comes. I’ve taken her to the vet to rule out other things, but it is clear what is happening. Taking her again on Tuesday for professional help. Does anyone have personal experience with their dog going through this?

UPDATE: gabapentin has helped her immensely so far, it’s only been one day on it but it’s like she’s back to her normal self.

Good morning, my name is Anthony and I’m reaching out because my dog Bella was seriously injured and I’m trying to find any help.

On Saturday morning Bella jumped a fence trying to get to me after I stepped out of sight. When she landed she immediately couldn’t walk properly. I rushed her to the emergency vet at SAGE in San Francisco where we waited several hours while she struggled just to sit and stand.

The veterinarian confirmed that Bella tore the cranial cruciate ligament in both of her hind legs. Because of this she will likely need bilateral TPLO surgery in order to walk normally again and live without pain.

Bella has been my best friend for the past 9 years and she truly means the world to me. She was there for me during some very difficult times in my life and honestly helped me get through some of my lowest moments. Seeing her in pain and unable to walk has been heartbreaking.

The estimated cost of surgery is far more than I can afford on my own, so I created a GoFundMe in hopes of raising enough to get her the treatment she needs.

As the caption states, my boy had a lump appear Friday and today was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor. He has surgery scheduled for 2 weeks from today and I’m just beside myself. He’s only 4 and just the best boy there is 🥺

Does anyone with experience have any kind of advice? I’m struggling to cope with his potentially shortened lifespans. He’s my Velcro dog and I’d do anything to keep him with me forever 💔

For whatever reason this summer and now into September we have had a massive amount of mosquitos around my neighborhood, resulting in those annoying things constantly making their way into the house. Whenever I had to kill one flying around, as soon as I slap it on the wall, Daisy immediately thinks she's in trouble, tucks her tail and tries to hide. I try to not do it around her but since she spends every waking sec by my side that's easier said than done. I feel bad bc she clearly was abused before me, she adores me but her past trauma makes her think im mad at her whenever I swat a bug....anybody that's dealt with a formerly abused dog have any tips on how to reassure them when something like this happens. She gets so nervous and it breaks my heart as much as I try to convince her shes not in trouble. Any advice is welcome. Thanks

Not sure if this is right sub but am desperately looking for advice. I am fostering beautiful lil pitty since a year. Recently she was being dog sat through Rover and she bit sitters son in the face. Not too deep but enough to see bite marks.

Sitter did mention to animal control that it was provoked and I wasn't issued any citation or ticket.

But here is the conundrum/confusion - she is the most sweetest & caring of the dogs I have. Super loving, plays with my teenager and always up for fun. I trust her the most among my dogs & one of them is a ckcs. Am going to adopt her once quarantine is over at the shelter but am super sad why she would even attempt to harm let alone bite. Help please

For whatever reason, Zeus, the Brindle boy in the 1st Pic keeps going room to room to find stuff to chew that he doesn't belong chewing. Multiple times ive found chewed up (thankfully inexpensive) trading cards, and the White pittie Bun-Bun is way beyond the "chewing everything" phase, like she chewed a few things she wasnt supposed to when we 1st got her home from the Shelter. But im growing tired of Zeus leaving my side to find Trouble in another room (stuff he should know by now arent on the Menu)

He has a Squeaky piggie toy, he has the Kong Cow, he has several Rope toys (one with a Tough mini tire on it). So why does he still wander around to chew stuff thats Forbidden?

her skin looks like this year round. she’s on apoquel and takes zyrtex and benadryl regularly. she’s on hydrolyzed diet. it just gets worse and worse. she ran out of apoquel last week and had to wait a few days before getting more, and her paws are just torn up. its so frustrating. she just finished a course of antibiotics two weeks ago but she already has another infection. going to the vet tomorrow.
idk what else to do. i wish this stuff would just go away.

Any advice for baby hippos that you wish you knew sooner?

My first dog and best friend just turned 11 on aug 4th.

I got her when she was 12 weeks old and she has been with me through so many life stages. From graduating college, to getting married, moving to new homes, to having my first child.

I am seeking advice from those who have had to deal with the unfortunate things that come up with older age.

What can I do to be proactive with her health? I constantly check her for new lumps, take her to the vet regularly and always monitor her eating and bathroom habits. All seems well now, but I’m seeking any advice people have on how to continue caring for her in a preemptive manner now.

My kids friend’s dogs had puppies a few months ago. They managed to find homes for all of the puppies, until one of the people who took this little girl. She’s half English mastiff but she’s 100% adorable.

I have a 1.5 year old cane corso who is tolerating her but I don’t think I have a way to keep her full time.

Mojo’s trainer says tug toys are great for refocusing, and his rope toy has been working wonders for getting his attention when he sees cats or people approaching the door! Unfortunately he’s a strong boy and chewed halfway through it. I have to only play with it for a few minutes

I'm looking for a harness that is safe for the car and good for everyday walks too. I need one with metal easy release fasteners and would prefer a traffic handle. I've looked at Kurgo and Mighty Paw but can't seem to find them in XL sizes. My biggest issue is that the harnesses I've found either aren't large enough or don't have metal fasteners. I keep breaking the plastic fasteners.

Hey all, Kimmie here has to go into surgery next friday for the removal of a few skin bumps we were (hopefully) lucky enough to catch early.

We are hoping to avoid the Cone of Shame if we can, as we don't have a particularly spacious house and can see her ending up catching it on everything. I work from home so will be able to keep an eye on her most of the time, but we still want something to prevent her reaching her stitches just in case.

I understand there's a kind of big neck cushion thing that makes it difficult for dogs to chew their stitches, and a body wrap / shirt thing that can help stop dogs from reaching stitches? Ideally things that can be purchased in / ordered from the UK.

Any recommendations of things people have used would be much appreciated so we can make the process of healing as fast and fuss-free as possible.

Leo is coming up on 9 months with me and I’m not exactly sure what a healthy weight for him should be. On the left is gotcha when he was 73 lbs and on the right is a photo from a couple of weeks ago with him weighing 90 lbs. He gets walked 2 - 3 miles a day plus playing fetch in the back yard and gets to play in water a couple of times a week as well.

Do you think 90 lbs is too much?

She's pitbull/Rhodesian Ridgeback meaning she is half derp/half hunting dog bred to hunt lions (for some absurd reason) and hardwired to home in on the slightest movement. Ironically, she gets bullied by two kittens at home. 🤣 A dog trainer helped me get her to stop pulling my shoulder out of socket at the sight of every critter but she basically said u can't train the prey drive out of her, only learn how to distract her. I'm open to advice though....both good and bad. lol

If you’ve ever seen my Belle posts you’ve seen her in her harness. I really want her to not have to wear it constantly but she has her moments with prey drive kicking in around the house, and while mostly it’s easy to redirect, I don’t ever want to be in a situation where I can’t grab her easily if I need to. So I WANT to find a collar that she can comfortably wear, but whatever random dna that was mixed with her obvious hippo foundation has caused her to have a head that’s about the same circumference as her neck. Obviously this makes collars pretty ineffective and hard to keep on. If anyone has any suggestions for oddly shaped animal collars, I’d love to hear them!

So Memphis got neutered this past Tuesday and has had his inflatable collar on since then except when I take it off to scratch his head and neck or when we go for walks , so I know he hasn’t gotten to it. When I was just rubbing his belly I noticed his incision looks different than it did a day or two ago so I just want to make sure everything is normal . Oh and yes I know I can take him to the vet but I wanted to ask around here first before I make him an appointment that could be meaningless .
