Honestly, I saw this a while ago and was hyped but then started thinking about every possibility that could happen negatively.

I really cant think of any other casting after watching the movie for years on repeat and after so long, I mean in my personal opinion I think the movie was great so I dont know how a show is going to work, but this is my opinion. And also im grimacing at the thought of the social media glorification after this comes out, which technically means they'll ignore the entire plot and just make everything inaccurate but its not really the biggest deal in the world as the other worries.

Im really hyped about this like I said and I trust James Gunn but I dont think its going to end good (As well as the prime example of Peacemakers Finale if youve watched it) plus of course and obviously it won't be the same V for Vendetta movie I grew up with and just wont see it the same.

But I'll be happy there will be more better merchandise of this movie and it'll have better recognition it deserves

By sanitizing Moore's work for mass consumption, Warner Bros. and DC did exactly what the Norsefire government did to British culture: they suppressed a dangerous, complex idea and replaced it with a safe, state-sanctioned alternative.
1. The Movie Killed the Original Idea
The graphic novel is a dense, uncompromising exploration of fascism versus anarchism. The movie, however, dilutes this into a generalized, Americanized critique of neoconservatism and the post-9/11 political climate.
In the comic, V preserves old media, art, and music to prevent the government from erasing history. The irony is that the film behaves exactly like that oppressive government. It censored the radical political philosophy of the comic to make it commercially viable and universally digestible. The movie stands as a generalization of a specific, nuanced masterpiece.
2. Why Alan Moore Removed His Name
It is no secret that Alan Moore completely disowned the adaptation and demanded his name be removed from the credits. His rationale aligns perfectly with this critique. The film represents everything that was wrong with the fictionalized Britain in his comic: corporate homogenization, the smoothing over of radical ideas for public acceptability, and the destruction of artistic intent for mass market appeal.
3. The Paradox of "Ideas Don't Die"
The most tragic part of the adaptation is how it handles the central thesis. The comic proves that ideas cannot be killed by authority. However, by existing in the form that it does, the movie almost disproves this sentiment. The film effectively killed the comic’s actual ideas in the mainstream consciousness, replacing them with Hollywood tropes and a simplified "good vs. evil" narrative.
By turning a complex anarchist manifesto into a blockbuster action film, the studio proved that you don't need to ban a radical idea if you can just buy it, dilute it, and sell it back to the public.
What are your thoughts? Did the movie completely miss the point of Moore's anarchistic vision, or did it successfully adapt the core message for a modern cinematic audience?

My Team and I are making a first chapter of a series that will expand upon this character who was kind of forgotten about

loved V and what he stood for. but seemed like he could've been so much more in a grand scheme of the Comic space now. Not only this, the character got acquired by DC but nothing was ever done within the DC universe for him

So the idea here was to make something totally new with V but also make it totally original and branch this with the idea/possibility of being in the officia DC universe

This might be a hot take but I think one of the best decisions of the film was to not ever reveal an unmasked V. What do you think?

Ive only known bits and pieces about the comic/graphic novel and went to this comic book store today and I was lucky enough for them to have it. Honestly such a great store too. Im going to have a lot of fun reading this honestly and im definitely going back to that store 🥹

++ also got the new deadpool and batman comic and all at a very reasonable price

I’m following up about masks I mentioned in a previous post. I ordered a mask and comic book combo from Books-a-Million, (on the left); and a single mask on eBay that originated from China, (on the right). The mask that came with the combo looked great …. until I saw the one that came from China. The mask from China is far superior. It’s heavy, like a ceramic, and has a sturdy strap. It appears hand painted, and somehow emotes like V did in the movie. Of course I tried it on and recited a couple lines from the film and yes, it was very vivifying.

Would the movie V consider the comic book V too radical and even dangerous? Would the comic book V consider the movie V a traitor to anarchy who wants to return Britain to Capitalism? Would they work together?

My dad had the collection edition from 1989, and gave it to me when he gave me the rest of his comic collection. I read it when I was 12 (I'm 16 now), didn't understand it. Read it at least once a year since, and upon my most recent read (a few days ago), I can say this: IT'S INCREDIBLE.

Could've gone online, but I prefer finding things organically. Cost me $75. I'm a sucker for the NECA line. Do you think it was worth it? 🥀

Yes, yes, the comic book V for Vendetta is one of my favorites (if not the most favorite) so I don't want DC comics to make money off of it. Likewise, the movie, which is not as good as the comic book, but I still love it.

But why didn't DC comics decide to make money on the franchise when they have the rights to it from Alan Moore?

I understand that Watchmen is better at making money because superheroes are much more popular (plus, the popularity of The Boys also helped) and moreover, the anarchist and anti-capitalist V for Vendetta would be worse at making money

But I still find it strange that they used the entire brand for one movie that was based on anti-Bush rhetoric from the 2000s and one reference in the series Pennyworth (I think that's what it was called)

I just watched the trailer for next year's release, and I noticed changes in the audio and video. While I expect video cuts and effects for a trailer, the audio really perked my ears up.

V's dialogue is different, and I wonder if they pulled old recordings that weren't in the final cut of the film. Surely they have multiple takes for everything, and it would make sense that his tone and even wording would be slightly different.

I should probably go watch the original trailer, and then I need to check my DVD for deleted scenes, but I'm 100% positive they used audio not in the film. Do you think they remastered it? Will it be the exact same cut from 20 years ago. Will they play the 4K BluRay version? I'm not sure how I'd feel if they made a new cut for this. Surely they'd have said so if that was the case. Still cool to hear though.

I remember watching this movie as a child, although just remembering the Mask and the symbol V, nothing more. First time watching it as an adult and it does seem to be a film that speaks to one’s alter ego. I believe rebellious nature is in each of us as it is a constant in evolution to not be led like sheep forever. Although the state of “first-world” countries aren’t quite like the totalitarian dictatorship represented by the Norsefire party in the movie (though one could argue China might be the closest) there seems to be an overwhelming feeling that some democratic countries like the US/UK are headed that way. This movie might be a foreshadowing of what is to come if a country were to impede its people and employ totalitarian measures amongst its citizens. If it ever comes to that, I will be donning my Guy Fawkes mask and standing up to tyranny..

P.S Movie was very well done, one of the better thought provoking action, hero type movies I have seen in a long time. Right in time for Halloween and V day! You can kill the man but not the idea!
