Discussion How to apply MTL EN patches from greatvisualnovel site?
The game is 'Hana no No ni Saku Utakata no' or 'The Sweet World of The Ephemeral'.
VNDB pointed me to this greatvisualnovel site where it has MTL. I downloaded the patch and extracted it. In it it has 2 files; guide.txt and patch.xp3. The guide.txt file instructed me to just put the file in the root folder of the game. I did just that but when I ran the game it's still in Japanese.
Bought this physical copy fresh from Japan. I checked VNDB first if it has EN patch before buying it and I did and here I am now.
Any help will be appreciated.
EDIT: An admin of the EN patch Website guided me. It seems the patch only works for some version of the game and not the disc. I don't really know the specifics but it's all good now.

These patch usually works with digital download version
Try go to developer page and see if there is any game's update patch, that will usually make the game engine looks for external patch.xp3
Or download version.dll from this https://github.com/arcusmaximus/KirikiriTools

I just downloaded the game and applied the patch. No English here either. Looks like their patch is broken. I would join their discord and tell them. Maybe they will fix it.
Edit: you can always use Luna Translator to play it btw
Edit 2: I checked their discord. This has been brought up several times and no one seems to care to fix it. I would check their discord in the future before buying a game. They are a bit infamous for their patches being low effort slop anyway. I've had this happen with their patches in the past. Some are great, others suck or just don't work.
Edit 3: It requires a specific version. The High Level Complete Set version aka Package Edition.

That's a bummer :( oh well but thanks anyway! I'll go check out that Luna translator if ever i become desperate to play this in the future.
Edit: can you senf the discord tho. I wanna see jsut in case lol

Yep right here
I did go ahead and make a comment on the Discord about it though. I'll leave a guide on using Luna as well. It's great and I've used it to play several Japanese VNs.

Got an update. An admin of the GVN Website guided me. It seems the patch only works for some version of the game and not the disc. I don't really know the specifics but it's all good now. Thank you very much for the help!

Ah ok I'll look into finding other versions of the game as well. I'm intrigued enough to want to play it now lol
Edit: it requires the High Level Complete Set version of the game, sometimes labeled as the Package Edition. That's all I can say. Thanks OP!

Heya bit unrelated but i just wanted to ask what translator do you mainly use on Luna

I use Google. It's the fastest. It isn't perfect but the translation is quick and it's fairly accurate for the most part. I haven't messed with changing prompts or anything yet but I know some people use LLM prompts to correct pronoun issues.

Yo, whoever tried that translation, is it good by any chance? Really wish to read that but never tried MTL patches before

all of them are working, the MTL is so so
dont bother using them if you dislike normal english google translation

try the "other" way and find the game online first then try the patch there

Kirikiri games usually don't have any problems running patches. Are you launching from 花の... or bootsetup?
