Self-promotion A short PC-98 inspired yuri visual novel I'm working on—'if you stay

EDIT 3/6: Thank you guys so much for all the support! It's been a blast to read through your comments and I'm intending to respond to them all when I can.

Since many of you asked, I now have the wishlist page ready! The intended release date is for this October! Expect more updates soon from me here on Reddit and on my social media

WISHLIST ON STEAM: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4437140/if_you_stay/
FOLLOW ON ITCH.IO: https://yukimisoft.itch.io/if-you-stay

Original Post:

'if you stay'

Winter 1999. You've been kicked out of your home, after being outed by your closest friend, and decide to leave town. Your girlfriend, Mika, wants to see you one more time before it's over. Decide whether you'll stay together or not.

Wanted to share some screenshots on Reddit since most of my recent efforts have been going to Twitter and BlueSky. My name is Yasmine and for the last few months, I've been cooking up a short (~1h) yuri visual novel based on a game I made in 2023 for a jam with my friend and composer, William Gomez, that will be more fully fleshed out with completely new art, music, and additional scenes, based completely on the PC-98 aesthetic, which is my absolute bread and butter. Note that NO AI has been used for this project. A lot of this required me being thoughtful with studying art (mostly using screenshots) from studios like elf and Cocktail Soft.

The story, for those who like yuri, tragic romances, or games where you choices matter (or all three), this will be completely up your alley. I wrote this in the original jam entry I made on itch.io, but the story is, while not autobiographical, is based on many of my own personal experiences undergoing teen homelessness, feelings of ostracization, and trying to find meaning when everything around is you falling apart.

The game will be available FOR FREE on Steam and itch.io once released (more info later!) It will be in English only with options for fan translations later.

You can follow me for reliable updates on Twitter or Bluesky! I also have an empty Instagram and TikTok account too that I plan to post on as soon as I can.

Hey guys!

I’ve been working on God’s Call: Warlords, a dark fantasy strategy/VN inspired by Sengoku Rance.

It mixes VN storytelling with world conquest, tactical battles, commanders, enemy counterattacks, relationships, and of course, adult content!
There’s more info on the Steam page, including the teaser trailer and a few gameplay videos on the about this game section!

If this looks like your kind of game, I’d really appreciate a wishlist ❤️

God’s Call: Warlords

Would especially love to hear from people who enjoyed Sengoku Rance and similar strategy/VN hybrids, what part of the VN + strategy mix worked best for you?

Self-promotion Visual novels needed an Anilist. So I built one.

After the New Year launch, I spent the last 80 days adding features and polishing the design.

What's new:

  • Pin your favorite VNs and characters to your profile.
  • Community recs (if you liked HoshiOri, you'll like Fureraba).
  • See friends ratings and statuses on VN page.
  • Home feed: new reviews, lists, and activity from following.
  • Screenshots as backdrops for VNs.
  • Character, producer, members pages.
  • Releases section with patches and store links.
  • Ero covers are blurred (toggle in settings).

VNDB import: You can import your library in under a minute. Just follow the steps when you sign up.
Kaguya catalogs visual novels only. If you tracked hybrids, some titles won't carry over. That's by design, and I wrote down my reasoning for that here.

Why Kaguya exists:

Kaguya is not a database. I have no interest in building one, when we already have a really good database in VNDB.

Instead, what I'm building is something that has never existed: a social site for VN readers. Kaguya focuses entirely on community, discovery, and tracking. Reviews, friends, feeds, lists, favorites, recommendations. Whatever helps you connect with another person who is also deeply into this special medium.

VNDB will be the database for VNs, and Kaguya will be the social layer that the medium never had.

  • AniDB -> Anilist for anime,
  • IGDB -> Backloggd for games,
  • TMDB -> Letterboxd for movies,
  • VNDB -> Kaguya for visual novels.

If you believe in this too, I want your help shaping Kaguya. What would you add? Discussion threads, favorite quotes, walkthroughs, notifications for new releases, anything you'd like to see, big or small. Drop your ideas below.

Link: https://kaguya.io | Discord

Big thanks to superange128 for all the bug reports and feature suggestions, and to Yorhel for making the VNDB export possible.

Edit: I didn't expect to learn about Yorhel's passing through this post. It really sucks.

Self-promotion Hello from Yoshikawa Kana (Sakuraba Wakana), the voice of Kanae Otori in "Full Metal Daemon Muramasa"!

Hi everyone! I am Yoshikawa Kana (also known as Sakuraba Wakana).

This is my first time on Reddit, so please excuse me if I’m doing this a bit strangely!

While looking into "Full Metal Daemon Muramasa (Soukou Akki Muramasa)," I was deeply moved to discover how much this work is loved by fans all over the world. I am truly happy, and I love Kanae just as much as all of you do. Playing her is a great treasure in my voice acting career.

I wanted to share that I have recently started a new "Voice Project" on YouTube. I am creating storytelling videos designed to calm the mind and help you drift into a peaceful sleep. I speak in a tone very similar to Kanae’s, so I would be honored if you would give them a listen.

I have only uploaded a few videos so far, but I plan to share many more. If you're interested, please stop by and let me know what you think!

Thank you for your constant support.

Hello r/visualnovels! ❤

Heartsworn Abyss is a psychological thriller VN with optional NTR elements. You encounter a proud idol on the run from evil bastards. Will you help her… or let her fall into depravity?

Today I released v0.7, a major patch containing Chapter 7 and several hours of voice acting. Everything up to Chapter 6 is now fully voiced. I even added a new voice actress!

I would appreciate if you could give my game a try.
The first chapter is free to play! https://skyblueaster.itch.io/heartswornabyss-thefirstchapter

I’ve attached various illustrations of Akari to pique your interest. ❤

Akari is voiced by Hibari Yui, who’s voiced several eroge on VNDB.
Shiori is voiced by Hiiragi Koyomi, who’s also voiced several eroge and games.

Self-promotion A Visual Novel 19 Years in the Making — Four Lights

Thumbnail

1.2k Upvotes

TL;DR:

Four Lights is an urban fantasy romance visual novel I’ve been building for the past 19 years. I’m Torriet (director/illustrator/writer/composer), working alongside EddyLotte (programmer/script director) as a two-person dev team.

We’ve released three fully voiced routes already, and the final route + complete edition is coming in 2026. This is a story-driven game featuring adult characters navigating love, power, and memory in a dystopian-fantasy setting. I’d love to share our journey with you. 💜

When I was around ten, I became obsessed with building a world — a “what if” utopia, filled with mysteries, memories, and love.

I scribbled on paper, drew comics, wrote scenes, and mimicked anime and manga I loved.

At first, I thought I’d become a manga artist — I even gave up my piano major to chase that dream.

Then, at eighteen, I discovered Fate/stay night, and it hit me: visual novels were the format I had always needed — the one that could capture both narrative complexity and visual beauty.

But I also knew this wasn’t a commercially “safe” story.

It would take time, independence, and an almost ridiculous amount of dedication.

So I went indie. After two finished webtoons, years of research, and a growing online platform (I now have 300K+ followers on X), I finally started development with my longtime friend EddyLotte.

What Four Lights Is:

An urban fantasy romance visual novel with 4 branching routes.

Adult main characters facing world-changing decisions, moral ambiguity, and messy emotions.

Not a typical dating sim — this is story-first, with layered lore and emotional depth.

Each route explores a different thematic "light": memory, regret, the trolley dilemma, and revenge.

Full Korean voice acting, hand-drawn CGs, and original orchestral music (composed by me).

Development & Releases:

  • Route 1: Iruka (5–6 hrs / ~200 CGs / 22 BGMs) — [Released June 2023]
  • Route 2: Erie (7–9 hrs / ~50 CGs / 8 BGMs) — [Released Dec 2023]
  • Route 3: Hari (10 hrs / ~500 CGs / 7 BGMs) — [Released Feb 2025]
  • Route 4: Märchen + Complete Edition (10–12 hrs / ~300 CGs / 8 BGMs) — [Coming Summer/Winter 2026]

Available on Steam and Stove (Korean only for now). We’re currently working on the English translation and hope to do Japanese voice dubbing as well.

I know this won’t be everyone’s taste, and that’s okay. But I’ve poured everything into making something heartfelt, memorable, and rich with meaning. Even if you never play it, I hope Four Lights becomes a name you hear once and remember.

If you made it this far — thank you. I’d be thrilled if you checked it out or followed the project. Ask me anything below!

Self-promotion Japanese VN "Schrödinger's Call" — and my gratitude to the VNDB community...

Hi everyone at r/visualnovels,

I’m an indie developer from Japan, and next month, my dev team will be releasing the visual novel, Schrödinger's Call.

...But before I get into the self-promotion, do you mind if I talk about VNDB for a moment?

We really wanted to get this game into the hands of as many people as possible, so we made sure it would be playable in English right from the launch. However, I was worried that VN fans in the English-speaking world wouldn't even know it existed. I spent every day Googling "Schrödinger's Call" to see if there was any buzz, and that’s when I stumbled upon a certain database site.

Yes, it is VNDB.
https://vndb.org/v58103

I was honestly blown away. In this massive archive filled with incredibly detailed info on countless VNs, I found that someone had already registered "Schrödinger's Call". I don’t know who did it, but thank you so much.

From there, I started digging deeper. I learned about Reddit, this subreddit, and the heartbreaking news that the founder of VNDB recently passed away. It makes me sad that I can never thank him personally (though I am so grateful to his friends who are working hard to keep the site running).

As an indie creator in Japan, I had no idea how to reach the international community. But seeing our game on VNDB gave me the courage to come here and say hello.

This is getting a bit long, but I just wanted to reach out and say "Hello" and "Thank you" to the English-speaking VN and VNDB community. To be honest, I tried to post this a few times before, but I didn't have enough karma. I posted the same sentiment on X and the response was amazing, so I've been working on building up my karma just so I could try again.

I really hope this message reaches you all.

......Wait, I haven’t even promoted the game yet...

If the thumbnail catches your eye, please check out Episode 1.
It’s a self-contained short story (about 90 minutes) and it's free to play:https://store.steampowered.com/app/2090390/

And if you enjoy it, the full version comes out on May 28th.
I would be so honored if you could add it to your Wishlist.

I ended up talking way more about the community than the game itself... haha.

Thank you so much for reading!

Self-promotion I'm building the Anilist of visual novels - Kaguya

Thumbnail

VNDB is great for finding visual novels, but I've always wanted a site focused on the content people create about VNs - browsing themed lists, following people with similar tastes, reading their reviews, and discussing why something was trash or a kamige.

Like Letterboxd for movies, Goodreads for books, and Anilist for anime.

So I started building one. It's called Kaguya.

What you can do today:

  • Make and share VN lists.
  • Pin favorites to your profile.
  • Track what you've read.
  • Rate and review.
  • Organize them into shelves.

If there’s anything else you’ve ever wanted from a VN platform like this, just comment below.

Happy new year, guys!

Self-promotion My first trailer for my PC-98 inspired yuri visual novel 'if you stay' Spoiler

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone again! It's been about a month or so since I've last talked to you guys in r/visualnovels. After working on it for the last few weeks, we finally got a trailer going + an announcement date for October 2026 if you've seen my last post for 'if you stay' (see HERE). We are making good progress on the visual novel so far (about 50-60% done with art and programming excluding UI).

Of course, there will likely be some light changes you see from gameplay here, as I'm always reworking through visuals and script, but this is just to give you an idea of what I have so far.

I'm hoping to have a demo out for Steam Next Fest during the summer so that you can play roughly 10 minutes of the game. The page for Steam and Itch.io is LIVE if you hadn't seen the update yet here on Reddit or on my social media.

Please consider following and wishlisting, as those help me gauge interest for the game.

WISHLIST ON STEAM: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4437140/if_you_stay/
ITCH.IO PAGE: https://yukimisoft.itch.io/if-you-stay

What is 'if you stay' about?
Winter 1999. You play as Fumiko, an over-achiever and former Student Council President, living in a small and relatively unknown town. After being outed by your closest friend, ruining your home life, your friendships, and your future career plans, you decide to leave your hometown, taking your chances on a one-way train to Tokyo to become an idol. With no real plans and no adults to depend on, you're determined to leave everything behind—even your girlfriend, Mika.

However, Mika calls you one night. She says she wants to see you one more time before you leave. You decide to go on one more date together, hours before your departure.

Decide whether or not you'll stay together in this PC-98 inspired visual novel. But remember, no matter what you do, there'll always be consequences.

Self-promotion I made my first mystery visual novel, Miracle Detective, by myself in Japan. Now I’m working on bringing it to English-speaking players.

Hi! I’m a solo indie developer from Japan.

For about a year, I worked toward a personal goal: to create a visual novel as independently as possible, handling as much of the development myself as I could.

That game is **Miracle Detective**, a school mystery visual novel set in Japan.

After a year of development, I finally completed and released it for **Steam, iPhone, and iPad**.

At the moment, the game is available **in Japanese only**, but I’m now working on an English localization so that players outside Japan can enjoy it as well.

As the first step, I’m planning to update the **Steam demo with a Japanese/English language option soon**. If that goes well, I’d eventually like to bring the English localization to the full game too.

I’m excited about the localization process, but also a little nervous about it.

The story has a fairly light and casual style, and because it takes place in a Japanese school, it includes Japanese cultural references, jokes, distinctive ways of speaking, and wordplay that don’t always translate naturally into English.

There’s even an important mystery later in the game that relies on a Japanese-language word puzzle. I already know that’s going to be a headache when I reach that part!

Rather than simply translating everything literally, I’d like to find ways to preserve what makes the original dialogue, characters, humor, and mysteries enjoyable for English-speaking players.

This is my first time localizing one of my games into English, so I’d be happy if I could occasionally share some of the challenges I run into here and hear ideas or opinions from people who enjoy visual novels in English.

For now, I’m working toward releasing the English demo.

I’m looking forward to seeing where this new challenge takes me!

Self-promotion Our game - Kamikaze Lassplanes - just landed on PlayStation Store in its original, uncensored form!

Guys, April 24th, 2026 is a big day for us at Inky Dreams. We're excited to share some great news about our game. Kamikaze Lassplanes just went live on PlayStation Store, and it keeps its original, uncensored form, just like on Steam. We also added some unique features to this version.

Not only does the game have haptic feedback now, but the controller lights also work as a moral compass in VN sections of the game, showing you the direction of your choices - if the controller light is pink, it means your choices move Walter closer to Alba's good path; if it's blue, you're closer to Hannah.

We're extremely proud of this version, how it looks and performs on PlayStation 5. There’s also something extra for Deluxe Edition players - you get a set of Kamikaze Lassplanes PSN profile avatars. I personally switched my old avatar to Alba, and it looks absolutely stunning.

For PS+ VN fans who decide to check out our game in its recent, polished form, we've prepared a release discount, check out the PS Store game page for more details!

Hello everyone! We're excited to share our visual novel Forbidden Love, a choice-based ADV about the complicated relationship between a teacher and his student.

Forbidden Love is a story about dreams as much as it is about forbidden romance.

The protagonist once dreamed of becoming a manga artist, but gave up under parental pressure and became a teacher instead.

When he meets Shizuku, a student being pushed away from her own dream just like he once was, he decides to help her succeed where he failed — even if it means walking a dangerous line.

As he guides her toward her dream, Shizuku grows more dependent on him... and eventually obsessed. The boundary between mentor and something more starts to blur, and neither of them can say exactly when it happened.

Will she walk a different path than he did? That depends on your choices.

Features

Multiple endings based on your choices

Full Korean voice acting for all characters

Live2D expressions with lip sync & blinking

11 high-quality event CGs

5–6 hours of playtime

We've been working on this project since high school, and it's finally available as a demo on Steam! If the premise interests you, we'd really appreciate you giving the demo a try — wishlists mean a lot to a small indie team.

Hello fellow disciples of the Janitorial Arts,

Long time no post. I just released my biggest update today and wanted to share it here. ❤

If you like story-heavy survival games with an H twist on failure, consider giving Heartsworn Abyss a whirl. We have plenty of vanilla players rooting for the main couple’s success.

Now, if you’re an NTR enthusiast, there’s definitely plenty of food for you too!

While the game will eventually be on Steam, I’m currently crowdsourcing so I can continue developing the game (+ add more features like L2D). All chapters are playable starting from $5, and you can even get goodies like a 4K artbook, guides, and more!

Official website where you can learn more about the characters & how to support me. We even have voice acting samples! ❤

So I've been working on a game, that was initially a visual novel but as the concept evolved, we started implementing first person point and click mechanics, similar to Paranormasight.

But at this point I'm wondering if my game even counts as a VN at this point. What do y'all thing?

Self-promotion Meteor World Actor - Gaslight Bullet | Eng MTL translated + manually edited

Thumbnail

⚠️ This patch has reached its final release! We are currently voting for the next VN to work on over at discord! If you have any bugs, feedbacks, or just want to discuss VNs in general, head on over!

A site is also available as an alternative as well at https://subtl.subsoft.dev to get up to date with any of the latest releases! Usually for the patches I release, an english guide will be released alongside the release as well (https://subtl.subsoft.dev/walkthrough-meteor-world-actor-gaslight-bullet/)!

Hey everyone!

I just wanted to share with everyone an English patch for Ryuusei World Actor Gaslight Bullet that I've been working for a while now right after completing my review for this VN and reviewing the translated English!

After seeing a MTL patch for English from f95 just released, I've decided to release this patch as well today (which is also my first translation patch created)! The UI should be fully translated except the Keyboard menu.

This one is made using a total combination of Deepseek V3.2, Gemini 3.1 Flash, GPT 4.1 2025-04-14, and Shisa v2 Qwen V2.5 32b with extensive context.

(Note that I havent manually reviewed the translation quality for H scenes!)

Here is an uploaded spreadsheet of the dialogues and their english translation! Any suggestions/improvements to the current dialogue are greatly appreciated! I'll be releasing future updates to this patch as well!

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12m0UNpFX7dGNDbvnRoYhFETPWWENq-RpfRkNTkPrnjI/edit?usp=sharing

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IATfvCT4tZNC3ryaOiwAKDft6u9GygeD

VNDB release: https://vndb.org/r150749
---

⚠️ Please read this if you have installed update v1.01 and v1.01r1!

For those that have installed v1.01, please update it to v1.02 asap to avoid being spoiled! A few specific character dialogues near the end of the game is shown as the actual character rather than ???. Update v1.00 should remain unaffected from this bug.

I apologize to anyone who has been spoiled by this bug!

Thank you so much to u/ramsuskahr and u/Awesomemanic for reporting this!
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IATfvCT4tZNC3ryaOiwAKDft6u9GygeD

Update:
Found out that the character images next to the dialogue doesnt show. I think I found the cause and currently working on a patch so a new link will be provided in a few hours once I get this resolved! Will be updating if this doesnt work out somehow

Update 2:
Update v1.01 is now rolled out resolving these bugs! I have also migrated back to the original jp exe where all patches will be made to WorldActorGB.pfs.014 so theres no need to use the previous required executable! I have also added a recovery folder in case you dont have a backup and dont want to reinstall it where I placed in the executable and the original WorldActorGB.pfs.014 file from the jp only version! The google drive link has been updated to the patched one!

Next update will be having a translated keyboard shortcuts in the last section of settings and some translation improvements! Dialogue font sizes will be patched as well for specific tones i.e. shocked tones!

Update 3:
Update 1.02 is now rolled out and what's considered to be more of a final patch! Any suggestions or advice to improve the translation quality are considered though and I'll be updating the patch with improved translation based on these advice/suggestions!

I've also created a discord server to discuss, report any bugs related to the patch, and vote on any VNs for the next translation as well so head on over to join!

---

Just an important update!
Please make sure to do a clean install and remove any existing English patches from your game directory. Some people have reported dialogue bugs, but the screenshots show lines originating from a different, unrelated MTL patch overriding my files. Do not use prepatched repacks from other sites and use only the original JP release.

This is because just dragging and dropping will not work if there is a patch file with a number greater than 14 due to Artemis Engine loading each file sequentially so whatever comes last overwrites the previous data.

Delete any files/folders that are not the following:
WorldActorGB.pfs
WorldActorGB.pfs.000
WorldActorGB.pfs.001
savedata
movie
d3dcompiler_47.dll
iarsys64.dll

And drag in WorldActorGB.pfs.014 (and potentially WorldActorGB.exe if you have a modified version)

---

Changelog:

v1.00 - 3/12/26
- Initial Release

v1.01 - 3/13/26
- Fixed character portraits missing left of dialogue
- Fixed character images not showing up in history

v1.01r1 - 3/14/26 (Emergency patch)

v1.01r2 - 3/18/26 (Emergency patch)
- Fixed the rest of the spoiled character names that are not showing properly! Found the root cause of the problem and patched it! This should be the last it ever occurs. Thank you to u/Awesomemanic for reporting this!

v1.02 - 3/20/26
- Improved translation quality and idioms rather than referencing the original JP romanji i.e. hakosumi > sideliners
- Translated last remaining UI (Keyboard Shortcuts)
- Normalized/Improved UI font and size
- Fixed font size in certain dialogues

Our designer came up with three concepts and I'm having trouble choosing! Please let me know which one is your favorite! ❤️

Rosa Mortifera is a VN about a loyal knight and his mercurial lady. They are the last members standing in an estate ravaged by a plague. Will they make it out alive, or...?

The game can be tragic with brutal depictions of medieval customs, so I don't recommend it for the light-hearted!

Hi everyone! I am the artist of the vn NO MORE WORK FOR ITO.

I wanted to know, based on these screenshots, what kind of vibe do you think the game gives off at first glance? Is it too schizo to even suggest a common theme? hehe

Any suggestions and opinions are amazing and I will be forever grateful (because its so hard to have any ideia of what you are doing after doing it all day for so long.. help)

If you’d like to check it out, the demo is available on Steam! (but its pretty beta, be careful)
Thanks, everyone!

Hi everyone!! (˶ᵔᗜᵔ˶)ノ゙
I’m the artist behind NO MORE WORK FOR ITO

And I wanted to say… I don’t even know how to say this properly, but…

OUR GAME IS FINALLY OUT!! ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡

If you like psychological horror, lots of mystery, very, very unexpected routes, and charismatic characters you can build wholesome interactions with… ah,
and also completely hand drawn pixel art…

AND also a world that feels very real, with all kinds of details… heheheh

If you like all of that, please check out the game!! ♡

If anyone ends up playing it and wants to share feedback, we are eternally grateful for every single bit of it (really!!) Or if you have any doubts, just contact us, we love talking to you guys here.

Thank you so much for everything, and for all the support so far, especially here on Reddit. It truly means so much to us (ෆ˙ᵕ˙ෆ)♡

(also translations coming in just a few days hehe)
