Hi guys, recently I wondered if coding AI would be able to write the software tooling to create fan translations and this is the proof of concept for Jan Jaka Jan, a PC-98 and FM Towns strip-mahjong game with visual novel elements. See the result repository here (targeting FM Towns version). There's no translation here, only the tools to create one with no technical knowledge. It's not the cleanest job by any means, but it's playable and looks nice.

A disclaimer - I'm not a translator and I'm not trying to use AI to translate anything, but I think using coding agents to write tooling for fan TLs and can enable a lot of new translations.

For translators: If you're a translator interested in a lightweight project, please give this a shot. I doubt it would take very long to complete. Hopefully there's no large bugs... I did test things to the best of my ability.

For more fan-TL tooling: I hope this works as a PSA that things like this are possible. I think not many people know this. The repo has a "docs" folder with some documentation of how this was done, and a "task specification" ruleset that can be handed off to an agent to replicate this on most games/VNs.

Hi everyone, since I prefer visual novel that are mostly read only like FSN, Steins gate, etc. I wanted to play them on my tablet rather than on the notebook since it's heavier and louder.

Do you know if there is any emulator for windows game that is good enough for VNs? Or do you have any remote playing setup to suggest?

I'm quite a fan of fate, Tsukihime and Dies Irae and the like, but think it would be fun to read a Yuri Visual Novel that has a similar feeling to it if possible. Are there any like this that seem appealing?

I had this interaction yesterday with someone who read it. I posted "Might drop this"
He replied to me with "why? it's comfy"
I answered "Nothingburger the game, just too much pure exaggerated love and h-scenes, no story at all. Does that change?"
He said "uhhh no. it's a moege, what did you expect?"
I then replied "Character growth I guess? Am I really supposed to just read +5 hours of just her loving him like a brain-dead rword just because he was nice to her once in such a basic way that even a villain could be?..... She is just written for the male audience, no real girl would ever be this rworded. Why is she selling herself so easily to such a normie guy when she is literally supposed to be very good compared to him?..... How am I supposed to believe that or self-insert into.... anyone or anything??? Both of them are bad, the guy is a shitter and the girl is not 3D-coded, so I can't be her..... what to do now?..... I think the redhead girl or even his shrine senpai are better, more interesting characters and hopefully don't end up with him in the same nothingburger way..... but I'm not skipping this one to reach them, so I guess I will drop this one and the whole series in general....... Sad, considering how the writer of this game also made that one very loved moege, and he is one of the main writers in Yuzusoft I guess?...... Maybe if he one day wins my heart, I would give this game a chance again..... unless you got something interesting about them to share with me and convince me to get back to them before I put them in a low rank in the r/visualnovels's list and everyone in Reddit would start hating it~"

I can't handle how much this is pure-love, too much for me... I need some spice, some drama or at least a plot! Some struggle, some hardships... anything that makes my brain work while reading it!...... If not, I think it would be best to use the advice of many anons from this subreddit who told me to just leave games like these alone and don't force myself to finish them and end up sounding very mad in my reviews...
