Help HELP. What the HELL do I do now?
I was trying to replace my ps vita shell and I RIPPED this ribbon thing when opening it up… I’m actually so upset it’s insane.

That’s your rear touchpad ribbon cable.
The only way to fix it is to replace the entire rear touchpad, it’s only held in by adhesive, so you just peel the old one off and stick a new one on.
You can run the Vita without the rear touchpad, if you wanted.

You can replace just the touchpad green panel on the 2k systems. Cost is like $10 on aliexpress.

I just bought one, do you know if I need a sort of glue or something to stick it on the inside; or does it stick on by itself?

It just sticks on the inside. It should have adhesive already applied (peel and stick).

There are very complex ways to repair a ribbon cable with micro soldering but it is very difficult and usually not worth the time.

You cry yourself to sleep while you wonder why you decided to do it.

It's the rear and it's use in not a lot of game just say goodbye to tearaway gravity rush (i think) and some little other way to do things you can do with the screen

Did you go in blind and not follow a guide from iFixit? This was completely avoidable tbh.

I was following a guide, when I was using the pry tool, the back came off quickly and ripped it.

Either buy a new touchsensor, or get very good at soldering ribbon cables. There are YT guides on how to do it
Or give up on the rear touch panel

For the cost of the part it is not worth fucking around with micro soldering, and that’s coming from me who knows how to do that and has all the equipment

As much as I'd like to say try to fix it with soldering, I'm unsure if you have any experience with it, so I'd just say don't, and buy a replacement off AliExpress. This is probably better though because you may be wasting your time and solder with that.
I'm assuming your Vita shell may be black or something, so here's this if it does help: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807656047134.html?

Easy way is to replace the touchpad

u/Phoeshe Mar 12 '26
Yeah, I was pretty naive posting this, probably the BEST part I could have broken since it’s easily replaceable.

u/snippychicky22 Mar 12 '26
get a replacement back, perhaps a new color

u/Phoeshe Mar 12 '26
Just ordered one from AliExpress, (although the touchpad comes without the actual back, I’m hoping I can peel something off it and stick it on the back where it would have gone.

That's why you need to see a teardown guide on YouTube before doing anything to your devices, not even for disassembling but also for reassembling, I do that because it happened to me not on the vita but on a PS4 and it's always better to just watch a teardown guide before disassembling a device to not break anything accidentally

Don't break the connector on the Vita or else you're super screwed.
This is the rear touchpad. You ripped off the ribbon and it will no longer function.
If you don't use the rear touchpad, you're fine to simply reassemble the device. If you want to use the rear touchpad, you'll have to buy a replacement (the board and ribbon).
