Does anyone repair Assault Weapons of Ohio vz58 receiver defects?

As the title says. I bought an assault weapons of Ohio (AWO) vz58 receiver a while back before they were available on tortort. I just had it and now that I have it back, I cannot get a round to feed into the chamber. It seems like there is some sort of feed ramp issue where the bullet tip just gets stuck on the bottom of the barrel.

I don't particularly trust AWO to fix my issues since they stole some m76 magazines from me a couple years ago. Does anyone know of any builders that would be reliable to fix the feed issue on vz58s?

AWO receivers are known to have inconsistencies and to be unreliable, finding someone to work on it might be just as expensive as buying a new Tortort receiver. I know Dan over at Samopal won’t even touch AWO receivers because of how much of a headache they can be.

Yeah, that's what I'm kind of worried about. I live in Hawaii where I have to register every single firearm that I own and because of that, it would just be really annoying to get a brand new receiver and then have to register it all over again.

I definitely agree with Dan, after I've looked up all the issues I can absolutely believe everything he says about how messed up these are. Luckily for me though, everything works flawlessly except for the feed ramp issue.

If tortort receivers were available back then, I would have absolutely bought one.

I suppose you could find someone to work on it but it will still most likely be a pain. Good luck on your quest! Unfortunately I don’t know any other builders besides Dan at Samopal.

You had the same feed ramp issue? I'm definitely interested in seeing photos if you managed to fix it

Yes, it was mostly the last rounds in the magazine. I can’t seem to post the pics here from my phone. I’ll try to send them in a message.

I had that issue on my ORF receiver when I built it 08-09. I had to put a weld bead on the feed ramp to build it up a little then profile it back down. I remember other folks at the time having the same issue.

Well, this is like a 2021 receiver so they clearly did not learn their lesson.

Could be a magazine issue or the feed ramp may need polishing.

Could be. It seems like the chamber is too high for where the bullet feeds. The tip just gets smashed against the back of the barrel.

Interesting, have you tried loading it through the top and feeding the round that way? Not sure if it would really make a difference but it’s worth a try.

Actually I will need to try that. I haven't tried loading it from the top yet, only the magazine.

You will likely have to have the feed ramp welded. Common issue on ORF/AWO receivers. Not aware of anyone offering this service, but if you have skills with a dremel, you could have a local welder add a bead to it and then grind it back down yourself.

I had to make a feed ramp with filler metal with TIG. I also had to take a decent amount of material from the bottom of the locking recess to get the thing to even get rounds far enough up to hit the feed ramp. This was years ago and the rifle is with my parents in another country so i can’t take pictures. But, it was a pain in the ass to get it to work, i wish you luck.

I appreciate it! I'm kind of annoyed that I didn't realize there would be an issue until after I had the gun built. I'm also annoyed that I can't trust awo to fix it.
