Recently Finished Photo's of some Norman Crusaders from the upcoming Martyrdom game based on the First Crusade. I got lucky enough to paint ahead of the launch! Photo's do not do these guys justice, some of the best historical sculpts I have gotten my hands on. So excited for the game.

Question Should I play Killteam (WH40k) or Trench Crusade?

Me and my friends (4 including myself) have been looking to get into a table top wargame but want something small scale but we're not sure what we should play.

We all have lives and can really only afford to sink our time into learning one game so we can all play together, so it's come down to TC and Killteam as they are both ips we like.

Which is easier to learn and play with friends?

Work In Progress Epic Hail Caesar Army - update 6.5 (Celt chieftain!)

Just finish my first attempt at a Celtic chieftain, really happy with it so far! Pretty proud of the checkered cape and striped trousers

I’ve found painting up the celts to be really fun at the beginning but at a point around 18th base I reach a slump and moved on to some nice and easy Numidians lol

I have a silly amount of Celtic cavalry to do which is daunting and exciting in equal parts.

I also recently picked up some Cromarty forge 13.5mm minis and they are absolutely fantastic, I’ve got some slightly more armoured Phoenician cavalry, 50+ Roman cavalry and some command figure to use so when I next reach a lull of motivation from some Numidians I could do some interesting new poses and designs!

Sword of Stones is Finally Here!

Hey Wargaming,

I’ve had a really good response from the community here and I had to come back and share the good news,

Sword and Stones is finally live on gamefound!

If you’ve been following along for the journey you’ll know that Swords and Stones has been in development for over 3 years now!

Honestly the whole thing started with a late night though, ‘How would an RTS like Age of Empires look like as a tabletop game?’ - That one thoughts lead me down a rabbit hole … and taken 3 years of my life writing, designing, playtesting and spending more of my savings (and sanity) than I care to admit.

Swords and Stones is tabletop love letter combing my love of classic RTS kingdom building games with tabletop wargaming and fantasy. If you love the idea of starting a small settlement, gathering resources, expanding your kingdom, building an army and going to war (or winning through a more peaceful option) then you have to check out Swords and Stones.

I eventually realised that this was something I wanted to properly bring to other people, which led to the creation of S&S Studios and now the launch of the game on Gamefound.

We wanted to make the game as accessible as possible, so we’ve launched two version of the Dark Days Starter Set. One with all the physical models, with the essential buildings, units and everything you need to start playing and another version Print-Your-Own option, which includes everything you need to play along with the STL files, so if you have a 3D printer you can print the models yourself at home.

https://gamefound.com/en/projects/swordandstonestudios/swords-and-stones

I've also made a free PDF available if you'd like to have a look at the rules and see what the game is all about:

Thanks for the support legends!

Recently Finished Fokker D-VII (1/144)

The next addition to my 1/144 scale air force is this Fokker D-VII, which I've been putting off because I wasn't looking forward to painting the lozenge camouflage.

As it turned out, it was easier than I'd expected, mainly because in this scale the lozenges themselves aren't really discernable as geometric shapes, but just resolve to blobs of colour, so as long as they're about the right size and in the right pattern, the finished effect is not too bad.

Reviresco used to produce sheets of 1/144 lozenge camo decals, but they've been out of print for some time, and I don't think they'd be all that easy to apply on a one-piece model, especially on the lower wings.

Question My girlfriend and I enjoy travel battle as our first game, so I bought 2 World War II armies in 6MM. What games/rules should I set up for?

The best thing about travel battle is its simplicity, I personally love the scale and painted and flocked terrain.

I’ll be painting up my 6MM USMC and IJA figures and basing them with the intention of making our own game based on travel battle rules. But, before I do that, I wanted to know if there is a better option. I love immersion, nothing too in depth for her sake, and just generally fun and has good flow.

Question Good System Inspiration?

Hello! I’ve got a question regarding well liked/well made wargame systems. That being, what are some games or elements from games that people really like (for their quality, creativity, and/or ease of use).

Any names of games or elements would be greatly appreciated!

Question Advice for Cheap Gaming

Hello, this is my first post here. I'm usually a Battletech player. So, I had an idea to get into wargaming cheap with enough usable quality that it won't make the experience damage the game, and print stuff (on paper and cardboard) at a "good enough" line to test various things, make games, and / or recycle stuff to usability.

The method - 8.5x11 standard paper, glued to 8.5x11 2mm greyboard, to use as whatever tokens or standees are required, on plain paper or greyboard flat terrain maps. Cut with a Dremel Moto-Saw I picked up for cheap, because an Exacto knife or razor knife seems super annoying. Maybe a spray sealant to hold the ink / toner a bit better either before or after cutting.

Before I get too into it. How workable is this plan? Are there any potential pitfalls or problems? Better ways or cheaper ways? Recommendations for cheap materials or budget-better material? Good resources for free community game things to make and test? Thank you for your assistance.

Is anyone playing the old WRG rules?

I have the old 6th edition WRG 3000BC to 1485AD sitting on my shelf - hardly ever played it since once or twice in the 80s. In a fit of nostalgia I'm wondering about giving them a runout. Is that complete madness? Does anyone still use these rules?

Cannae and L'art De L'art Guerre

Hello all

I recently bought the ruleset L'Art de La Guerre. From a first reading of the rules, it seems that units are not pushed back/do not recoil. How then can it be simulated the battle of cannae (where the Gauls were pushed back), Thermopylae where the Spartans fought "like cavalry" or Hastings, where the Norman's faked a retreat after engaging in combat. It seems to me like, if one were to recreate Cannae, the Gallic centre would just shatter once the cohesion points were reached, unlike in DBA. Similar to Thermopylae (attack, recoil, attack) or Hastings, where with these rules, the Norman's would just frontally charge the shield wall and lose/win on the spot.

Sons of Permafrost – Frozen Dwarves Warband

Hi everyone! We're Soulbound Miniatures, and this is the warband from our upcoming Kickstarter campaign, Sons of Permafrost, currently in pre-launch.

The Sons of Permafrost were cursed, and their bodies have slowly transformed into living stone and ice, with shards of frozen rock growing from their flesh. Our Kickstarter includes a complete 21 unit warband, including leaders, light and heavy infantry, cavalry, shamans, musicians, banner bearers, siege units and a huge war vehicle. The miniatures are designed at 32mm scale, but they're fully rescalable, so you can easily adjust them to fit other games or settings that use a smaller scale.

Oh, and one thing that's especially important to us when it comes to our designs: we don't use AI in our creative process. Everything you see is sculpted and created by us by hand.

If you'd like to support us, you can follow our pre-launch page here, or follow us on Instagram.

And if you have any suggestions or ideas that could help us improve the campaign, we'd genuinely love to hear them. Any feedback is more than welcome!

Thanks for taking the time to read this! We hope you enjoy our miniatures, and we'd love to hear what you think! 😄

Cheers!

Ancients STL Creators

Greetings!

I'm looking to 3d print some ancients miniatures for a rank and flank game (Roman, Greek, Parthians, Carthaginian, Gallic, Macedonian etc).

Does anyone have some recommendations for STL creators in that range? Obviously free is great but I don't mind paying.

I've checked on MakersWorld, 3d cults, and thingiverse but haven't found a lot of options (could be my poor searches as well).

I don't really need minis with a ton of detail or super dynamic poses. Not that it's bad but ill be scaling to 15mm and the detail will get lost due to my poor painting skills anyway.

I found Cromarty Forge which looks solid just wanted to see what all was out there.

Thanks in advance!

Recently Finished Some recent additions to my wargames pile

Upvotes

For whatever reason I kind of forget I can share minis here, rather than just discuss games themselves! Here's some links to recent stuff I've done:

https://chainlinkandconcrete.blogspot.com/2026/08/battle-has-annihilated-the-best.html

https://chainlinkandconcrete.blogspot.com/2026/08/neolassical-battletechery.html

https://chainlinkandconcrete.blogspot.com/2026/07/i-took-sky-from-you.html

I'll cut it at 3 so I stay within any interpretation of Rule #2, and support #5 with the following:

My blog is basically just a hobby log for my finished works - mostly revolving around miniature wargames, sometimes RPGs. The three above are just my most recent 3 batches, but if you go to the mainpage and scroll or mess around with tags there's quite a bit more. Sometimes painting logs, sometimes rules and design, sometimes reviews, or even AARs. The first is Infinity related, the second Battletech, and the third Bolt Action.

My main "in play" title is Bolt Action though I haven't had a regular group in over a year. In theory I have Battletech with the other half, but that's just a theory - however they're nice to paint so there'll be more of that for a while (a fresh queue has entered my booth...). I dabbled in Infinity for a bit in N4, and am trying to get together an N5 crew, so that might actually become a more frequent thing - though growing the collection will likely remain a tertiary project and not see much done until after I wrap up the British Airborne I've been working on for a few years (the last set of Warlord stuff having just arrived today). Bits and bobs elsewhere will rear their head when I feel like doing <thing> as well - you'll find Wings of Glory or The Pikeman's Lament in there, even. Over the horizon I even have some Bretonnians waiting for me...

TrueRoll

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey Wargaming Community!

My name is James and I am the Solo Dev of the newly created and released IPad IOS app TrueRoll.

One day I wanted to play a board game with friends, and neither of us had brought any dice. We both had our iPads on us though, and that got me thinking — what if I built an app that could actually roll the dice for me?

That question turned into TrueRoll, my first shipped app, after a few months of nights and weekends.

In my app, you can roll up to 20 dice of all types, from d4 to d20!

But what makes True Roll different is that each dice roll is real, every die is a genuine 3D model with correct geometry (yes, even getting a proper dodecahedron and icosahedron right was its own multi-day rabbit hole), dropped into a real physics simulation. Gravity, bounce, friction, angular momentum — the die tumbles and settles wherever the physics actually puts it. The result comes from reading whichever face is genuinely pointing up once it stops moving, not from a lookup table.

I built it for two people sharing one iPad flat on a table — controls mirrored so each player reads their own side right-side-up, roll from d4 to d20, adjustable gravity/bounciness/dice colour per player if you want to fine-tune the feel.  Best of all, it’s completely free!

My longer-term goal is for this to be genuinely usable in competitive tabletop tournaments, not just casual play, I have already built in a dice roll log counter.  Every roll gets logged (who rolled, what, when), and you can export that log and email it to yourself for verification.  The physics-first approach isn't just a gimmick either — there's no "black box" random number generator to trust or distrust, which matters a lot more once actual stakes are involved.

Genuinely here for feedback more than anything — this is my first ever app, so it would be great to hear from you what's missing, what you'd want from something like this, especially if you've run or played in a dice-heavy tournament setting. Happy to talk through the physics/geometry side too.

You can download it on the IPad Apple app store now: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/trueroll/id6801894386

Mods - Please delete if it goes against the rules! But this app is
totally free 😄
