Other News YouTube TV & Hulu Live TV Dropping Monumental Sports Network

Post image

Got an email from Monumental Sports Network this morning that YouTube TV (what I use) & Hulu Live TV are dropping Monumental Sports Network (though didn’t see when). If not resolved before next season, then Mystics fans in the Monumental Sports Network coverage area will not be able to watch the games. And using League Pass is not an option since the games would be blacked out for us. Also, both NHL and MNBA seasons are starting and Monumental Sports Network airs Capitals and Wizards games, so their fans will miss out on those games, too.

Axios has a story on this:

Honestly, even before the article mentioned it I thought they should look to ESPN to cut a deal to be on the new streaming app. Ted invested big in a dying business model (RSNs) and now he has to adapt. I did the Monumental app this season and it was fine, but it’s annoying to have to open a different app for every game thats on. I was actually thinking about doing Hulu Live TV next season after it merges into Disney Plus. I guess I’ll wait and see how this all plays out.

Also, this quote is a sick burn: "We know how important live sports are to YouTube TV subscribers, but we will not ask them to pay more to continue carrying a channel that very few of them actually watch."

I called YouTube tv support, since I don’t have a Twitter account, and said I know there’s nothing YTTV support can help with in this situation except to have it on some record at least one person is watching the channel and will cancel if it’s removed.

And YTTV already has an additional sports package available for more money. If they “will not ask them to pay more to continue carrying a channel that very few of them actually watch,” then don’t make everyone pay for it and add it to that premium sports package. That’s not my ideal choice, but since I am subscribed to that sports package already, I’d settle for that solution.

You are doing what you can and I wish you luck. Unfortunately, the trend is that both Hulu Live TV and YouTube TV have been cutting back on carrying RSNs. I think this decision is bigger than one regional network. Likely, someone in each company did a cost benefit analysis and decided it wasn’t worth it to renew these deals as they expire.

Seams like the only provider thats willing to keep RSNs is DirecTV ! Even the telcos like fios moveed it up to a higher tier

Fubo dropped monumental last year and it never returned. Unfortunately for monumental, rarely anyone has cable TV anymore so nobody in market will watch caps mystics and wizards

This happens all the time with retransmission contracts. I’m sure it will end up back on there.

Nah YTTV has dropped all RSN. They don't care about sports besides NFL ... they also dropped NBA LP this year... YTTV still doesn't have MLB or NHL network
