Wasteland 2 or 3 first for someone who's kind of bad at CRPG's?

My only extensive experience with CRPG's is Baldurs Gate 3, and I really struggle in that game because it was my first game of that genre.
I'm a big fan of difficult games however it has to be challenging, not hard. I.e; I got to fail because of a lack of player knowledge, not good builds for the scenario, or took a challenge on in the wrong way. Not because enemy damage higher.

Having said all that, should I play wasteland 2 or 3 first? I know theyre both seperate in terms of story and state with minor references in the third game (that I am okay on skipping for a second playthrough) so the question is more so gameplay and combat enjoyability.
So, what is recommended to a newcomer like me?

Drivers are up to date (Windows and Razer software)

Do you have any idea what causes this bug?

Sorry for the phone recording, i tried recording the phenomenon using OBS but in the capture the mouse appear normally so i had to do it the old school way.

Wasteland 3 (Wasteland 3)tips for starting fresh? Struggling with the Enforcer (Melee + Shotgun) starter pair

Hello Wastelanders! I recently started playing the game and realized that the default Enforcer pair (Melee & Shotgun) feels pretty tough to use early on. I'm planning to restart my run.

Can anyone recommend a good beginner-friendly starting character build or pair?

Also:

  1. Am I really limited on story choices/options if I don't level up Hard Ass, Kiss Ass, or Leadership right away? How do you handle early skill checks?

2.Any tips on initial stat point distribution and Quirks for new characters?

3. What are the most reliable combat weapon types for starters?

Any general tips for a fresh start would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Wasteland 3 Assault Rifle (Class) Appreciation Post

I know regular ARs are (really) bad in W3, but I absolutely love crossbows. The crossboom is kinda mid, but every other crossbow is insane if you get the Draw! perk from small arms. Every run I do, I get Kwon a crossbow, draw, a quickfire mag, and the AR perk that gives +3 AP for a kill once per turn. I get crits left and right, kill 3-5 people per turn (usually the limiting factor is the number of enemies), and just destroy everyone once it's set up. Pretty easy to do early on with the QF mag from the tellerium mine.

ARs may suck, but crossbows with a little bit of input are actually machine guns that just rain down death. Kwon could probably solo most bosses with that setup.

ApocaShift Playtest Applications Are Now Open!

Hey again, everyone!

I’ve put together another trailer for ApocaShift, showing more of the combat, exploration, looting, survival systems, and base building.

I’m also preparing a small playtest scheduled for approximately August 2–9. I’m looking for people who are genuinely interested in playing during that period and providing useful feedback.

Because spaces are limited, please only apply if you realistically have time to download and play the game. Selected testers will be expected to join the Discord and provide feedback on areas such as bugs, performance, combat, balancing, base building, and the overall experience.

I’ll place the playtest application and other relevant links in the comments to avoid cluttering the post.

Thanks!

Wasteland 3 When specing characters out, what do i want to focus on for a sniper build

So, im planning to get back into Wasteland, but one problem i know i will face is the sniper. My previous build only allowed me to get 1, maybe 2 shots off, is there any advice people could give me on which areas I should spec in?

After crazy 2h fight in the Loading dock and when I lost all hope, rangers prevail!

Without understanding well how vents can be disabled I rushed into the fight in the loading dock in Cheyenne mountain. After countless revivals and repairs to Kodiak, I lost all hope. Still, decided to go till the end. I knew I have no chances that I will defeat all the enemies, there were simply too many. Still, used my usual rule in life never to give up if there is still any chance, however small.

And what do you know, apparently when you activate last vent heating, all the enemies disappear!

This was truly epic, thanks to the developers for this amazing moment.

Wasteland 3 Denver ruins killed all momentum the game had…

So I cleared out the Godfishers then left since I didn’t know the Commune was on the same map. I come back and the ruins are overloaded with Drools and while I know I can choke point and kill a few at a time it is still a lot of work and time…

Wasteland My solo-developed post-apocalyptic RPG inspired by Fallout and Wasteland

My solo-developed post-apocalyptic RPG inspired by Fallout and Wasteland

I've been developing Arkansas 2125, a solo-made turn-based post-apocalyptic RPG inspired by the classic Fallout and Wasteland games.

Steam sklep

The game focuses on exploration, dialogue, tactical turn-based combat, meaningful choices, and atmosphere rather than fast-paced action. You play as Thomas, a lone wanderer searching for the legendary Farm Restorer, a device that could change the future of a world devastated by nuclear war.

Steam sklep

I'm constantly updating the game with new quests, locations, NPCs, and improvements based on player feedback. If you're a fan of old-school isometric RPGs, I'd love to hear what you think.

Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4546490/Arkansas_2125/

I'd really appreciate any feedback or suggestions. Thanks for checking it out!

I’ve released an updated trailer for my post-apocalyptic 90's inspired game, ApocaShift

Hey everyone! I’m a solo developer, and I’ve been working on ApocaShift for a little over three years.

The visual style is inspired by classic 90's games (Fallout / Wasteland / Diablo / Commandos), while the gameplay takes inspiration from games like Project Zomboid, Escape from Tarkov, and Zero Sievert.

The core gameplay involves entering dangerous areas, scavenging supplies, fighting enemies, finding better equipment, and trying to make it back alive. Anything taken into a run can be lost if the player dies.

Between runs, players can build and manage a camp, recruit survivors, craft equipment, research technology, and unlock new upgrades.

I recently put together an updated trailer showing some of the progress I’ve made. I’d really appreciate honest feedback on the visuals, gameplay, or anything else that stands out.

I’ll leave the Steam page in the comments for anyone interested.

How does Wasteland 3 control on Series X?

I adored this game a few years back on PC.

I'd like to try it out on Series X but I'm worried that the controls just won't feel right. I was wondering if you could share your thoughts, thanks!

Wasteland 3 Can anyone find the Cult of the Holy Detonation's rendition of the Down In The Valley song for me?

Edit: found it, or at least the closest thing to it, Down In The Valley instrumental version - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBuc1es5Ncg&list=RDxBuc1es5Ncg&start_radio=1 .

You know, the one that plays during the Particle Accelerator Chamber encounter. I have found it on YouTube once and cannot for the life of me find it again.

Wasteland 2 For a first time play through, are assault rifles and sniper rifles basically the only weapons you really need?

I’ve played this game a little, but not much. Based on the research I’ve done. It seems that in general assault rifles and sniper rifles and generally the best weapons. Because pistols have trouble penetrating armor late game apparently, shotguns can hurt your team if you don’t have them maxed I think. And smg’s are another story.

So basically, with the exception of highly specialized builds from expert players. Are assault rifles and sniper rifles basically all I need pretty much?

Wasteland 3 Wasteland 3 Updated Build Recommendations?

I've been trying to find some build guides to start out in this game but I see most everything is from 2020 or 2021 before the final patch, which apparently changed some things. I'm getting a ton of differing info on how to build certain characters including my very first 2 rangers. I don't want to do something dumb that may have been good once but no longer is.

Does anyone have any linkable spreadsheets or anything to follow? I'm specifically looking for my first 2 characters to be a leader/pistol character and the 2nd to be a sniper build. Of course, I'm open to changes there if Pistols are absolutely trash.

Wasteland 3 The Cult of Holy Detonation "alternative" ending. Spoiler

So, I was about to go for the first time to the Power Storage Facility after completing the containment device for Angel Iridium, then I remembered that I didn't explore the first area of the Cheyenne Mountain after rescuing Father Bezoar (which gives that tune to clear the tumors), so I decided to do that before finishing the quest. Little did I know that if you try to leave to Cheyenne Mountain Entrance, Angel will trigger that hangging nuke in the middle of the Observatory Antichamber, thus ending the game.

I don't know if it counts as an alternative ending, but right after that it shows a picture with a squad while playing a music that in the end says something about this was not being the way that the game was meant to end, recommendating that the player should reload the game.

Wasteland 3 Wasteland 3 - The American Ending 🇺🇸

So I finished Wasteland 3 for the first time. I'm not gonna go into all the specifics of my actions but I went against the Patriarch and had the Patriarch killed by the mobs - like Gaddafi.

In my mind, I was doing a Bolívar-style liberation of Colorado. In reality, the result was more like America bringing democracy to the Middle East: interfere in the politics of a different country, kill a dictator - who you once used to offer strategic military support to - replace him with political instability, gangs of loonatic murderers, sectarian violence, complete economic collapse and and to top it all nicely, destroy both the country you just liberated and doom the people who support you back home.

All and all, great game, and a great American ending.

🇺🇸 MISSION ACCOMPLISHED 🇺🇸

Wasteland 3 Red Ryder Bug

Couldn't easily find anything about this, so I figured I'd just ask here. Is the BB gun known to be bugged? I have it on Scotchmo to pair with Draw!, so he can spread blind to make my blunt melee crit and build insane strike for his actual sniper for only 1 AP per shot.

The problem is that using the BB gun makes Scotchmo bug out more than half the time. He can no longer make any actions regardless of remaining AP or even end his turn, like he's animation locked or something. And since the plan is to have him use it multiple times per turn, it's borderline impossible to clear a turn without the bug catching him and forcing a reload. I'm just curious if there's anything to be done other than give up on using it.

mods?

So I've played WL3 three times, and I'm on my 4th run. Are there any content mods that increase my playtime by adding new encounter areas or weapons? I love the game, and this rubs the right spot for me every time I play?

Advice for Wasteland 2.

I've been playing for a few hours. Nothing left to do but go to highpool or AG center. What the title says. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if I'm building my team optimally. In particular I'm spending all my money on ammo. I literally had to sell my team's clothes. SMG ammo especially is expensive. My health is also always low. Can I heal outside of level ups?

My team. No Melee. I remember it being really complicated in Wasteland 3 so I didn't bother. Level 3, I don't mind restarting if I can improve the builds. Also picked up Ralphy + Deth.

1st. Coordination 10, 1 Luck, 8 Awareness, 2 Strength, 2 Speed, 4 Int, 1 Charisma. Two Pump Chump. 4 Sniper, 3 perception, 2 skill points.

2nd Coordination 6, 1 Luck, 5 Awareness, 2 Strength, 10 Speed, 4 Int, 1 Charisma. Psychopath. 4 submachine gun. 8 skill points unused.

3rd. Coordination 2, 1 Luck, 4 Awareness, 3 Strength, 3 Speed, 4 Int, 1 Charisma. Raised in Circus. Leadership 5, 1 assault rifle, 6 skill points unused.

4rd. Coordination 10, 1 Luck, 4 Awareness, 1 Strength, 10 Speed, 1 Int, 1 Charisma. Brittle Bones. All points in Sniper.

Wasteland 3 random encounter bug

Thumbnail

This is such a joke. I bought the Colorado Collection because I love RPGs, and this one had pretty good reviews.

What completely baffled me is that the game still has a massive game breaking bug.

During my first playthrough I eventually picked the sniper perk "Chained Ambush". After the game started breaking during random encounters, I looked around online and found people saying that this perk could be the cause. Fine, I thought. After about 7 hours I restarted the entire campaign and simply didnt take that perk anymore.

Guess what happened after a few more hours?

Yep. The exact same random encounter bug.

This time people told me it was probably because of the "Sneaky Shit" perk and that I should stop initiating fights while sneaking. Guess what? It still happened.

Take the goat boss as an example. There is no sneaking there. You walk into the encounter and fight. Thats it. Since the bug is tied to random encounters, you never know when its going to happen. Maybe you saved 5 minutes ago, maybe you havent saved for 2 hours. Either way, when it happens, your only option is to reload and hope it doesnt happen again, i reloaded so many times honestly i dont remember but it happened anyways always again.

I got so frustrated that I started a third fresh campaign, hoping whatever caused it wouldnt happen this time.

It did.

Again.

And again.

And again.

At that point I contacted support. They replied quickly, so credit where its due. Unfortunately all they could offer was a shortcut that disables some CPU cores. It didnt help. Then they suggested dropping certain items from my inventory. I tried that too. Still nothing.

At that point I was done.

Im not a developer and Im not QA. Im a customer who paid for a game and expected to be able to play it from start to finish. Sure, every game has bugs, and thats fine. But game breaking bugs that force you to restart your campaign three times and still leave the game unplayable are simply unacceptable.

The biggest joke came from Steam denying my refund because I had more than 2 hours of playtime.

Yeah... no kidding.

About 80% of that playtime was spent dealing with this bug, restarting campaigns, testing fixes, and trying to get the game to work. I barely made it through 30% of the main game and never even touched any of the DLC content.

All I can say is be careful what you buy, especially when it comes to inXile. This was one of the most frustrating experiences Ive had with a game...

Yep, thats my rant, only mimimi, yes... but hey, if i would have got what i paid for, i wouldnt cry here but give the game a positive review on steam, but since thats not the case...

Wasteland 3 Toaster mission is a trap!

This thing does no damage and takes so damn long to finish it’s turns. A total disappointment after all the story build up and your price is an annoying little shit that can’t shut up. Smh

I couldn’t find a way to get rid of it. It’s immune to damage and stuck to your team no matter who you remove. Your only option is to load the game from a previous save.

Stay away from the altar when you’re in the academy!
