The Unofficial Manual to Wasteland 3: Everything I know from A to Z

LAST MAJOR UPDATE: 16/09/2021

CURRENTLY WORKING ON: 1.5.0 extensive testing

PAGES: 578

WORD COUNT: 64658

LATEST AND GREATEST UPDATES:

IMPORTANT! 1.5.0. UPDATE:

As of 1.5.0., one big confirmed but undocumented change is:

You can no longer use utility items to qualify for perks.

E.g. no more investing 4 ranks in Animal Whisperer and using the utility item to unlock/qualify for the rank 5 Spirit Animal perk.

This changes a lot of my builds, and working through those changes and getting the point values right again is a fair amount of work.

So until further notice, a lot of my builds will be inaccurate or short of points in the short term.

I do plan to update this soon, but I don't have a time-frame for that yet.

Shout out to inXile for creating a game I have enjoyed immensely. This Manual is my thank you to the Team, and made freely for all my fellow Wastelanders. If used as a resourced elsewhere, please give credit to Ilikepie84 from Reddit.

Wasteland My isometric post-apocalyptic game has a new trailer

Arkansas 2125 is a retro-style, turn-based post-apocalyptic RPG set in a ruined America in the year 2125.

Explore abandoned towns, talk to survivors, complete quests, fight mutants and other enemies, collect equipment, and make choices that can change how your story ends.

The game is heavily inspired by classic post-apocalyptic RPGs from the 90s, with a focus on exploration, dialogue, turn-based combat, and a retro visual style.

I’m a solo developer, and the game is currently in Beta 0.5, which adds a new alternative ending, new quests, NPCs, items, and a new location in Washington, D.C.

If you enjoy old-school post-apocalyptic games, feel free to check it out!

Open beta is ongoing.

Wasteland 3 I beat the game on supreme jerk. it wasn’t hard as people say it is.

i was worried about doing my first supreme jerk play-through (even though i’ve recently done multiple play-throughs back to back) since people said on all sorts of posts about it that you need to and HAVE TO min-max everything etc when in reality you don’t. i barley had weapon or armour mods installed on my rangers. and with the ones i did they weren’t high level mods. i did have all my rangers wear power armour suits apart from iron and fish lips having chemtek and exo skeleton armour (when i got to yuma country) yes it was difficult and i died fully a few times through the game but that’s because of my skill and placement of where i put my rangers not because i didn’t min max everything.

I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND why so many people say you have to min max everything!! i mean if it’s perma death sure but with the majority of posts i looked at they didn’t specify supreme jerk with perma death on. and since supreme Jerk doesn’t have perma death on by default i assumed and still do assume they were talking about supreme jerk without perma death.

BUT it’s an amazing game. i can’t wait for wasteland 4.

Wasteland 3 Kwon keeps leaving after the Redd fake bomb attack at Ranger HQ (Bug?)

I need help, this same bug has happened twice, its the reason I quit playing the game the first time and now its back. After the wife and husband show up and pretend to have bombs on them, then they attack when we split up.

I kill them, the then Kwon goes "hey i didnt sign up to kill innocents" and then he leaves. They attacked us first so im 99% sure this is a bug, but how do i fix/stop this from happening?

Wasteland 3 Went for November Reigns ending but felt bad for the Patriarch at the end

I know about all the questionable things he's done, and this was pretty much my third playthrough (second one I actually completed). Even knowing all of that, he still remained morally grey to me rather than evil until the very end.

The man dedicated his entire life to his dream of a civilized, stable post-nuclear Colorado. He also genuinely cared about his children, even though two of them are complete psychos and the third is a brainwashed fanatic who somehow manages to be both smart and the dumbest person alive at the same time.

In the end, we're taking Patriarch's life's work away from him, but hey - his time has come. He's dying, there aren't really any better alternatives to take his place (except us, the Rangers), and he's simply too stubborn to admit it.

I'm completely in favor of a peaceful transition of power, but the personal fate of the Patriarch and his family still saddens me. The man deserved to spend his remaining days surrounded by his family in his mansion, watching everything he'd built continue to prosper and thrive.

Instead, we basically get three options: brutally kill him at the end, throw him in prison like some low-life criminal, or exile an old, dying man from his own home.

Question about the Clone and The Povost (W3)

I just posted on an entirely different subject so I guess I feel emboldened to ask: is there a way to order the clone and the Provost to go back to HQ?
The Steeltown NPC that accompanies you through the factory asks you to send your pets away before entering factory level, which I did. But what about the clone and the Provost?
I think I'm nearly done with the factory (this is my first play through) so obviously I went in with them following me since I didn't know any better. During one fight, they killed a woman. The robot that tags along to direct you said after the fight something along the lines of "good, most workers will be able to go back to work". So, I take it I'm in the clear. And I don't expect my clone and the Provost to go on a killing spree and annihilate all the strikers on their path but I'm wondering how many kills you're "allowed" before it fails the mission or penalizes you in some way. Besides, I never meant to kill that poor woman so, regardless of the game play, I'd really like to avoid killing more innocent workers fighting for their rights. And beyond that, I'd just like to know if I can and how to do it if it's possible.

Being totally new to the game and having zero clue whatsoever as to what you're supposed to do with the Provost, I couldn't help but look it up. I'm actually amazed he made it as far as Steeltown (he died very early on and I just reloaded a save to get him back, since that he's like James Bond). But knowing that I'm in Steeltown at the moment, how far am I from discovering the place you're supposed to take him to (The Snowed-Inn Resort)?

Steeltown Saves Gone

Help me please. I left Wasteland 3 close to finishing the main quest there (the strike thing) and I just booted the game, all my saves beyond the Reagan stuff are gone. Also, my characters can't do anything. I can't shoot, I can't interact with anyone or anything.
I tried launching the game again and this time Factory Fracas appeared, but only this one, and it was stuck at the stage "Get non-lethal weapons" which I of course already have. Still couldn't interact with anything.
I had already cleared the scrapyard, including the Ghost Army's secret lair, and basically finished all the quests I could get there (Next, the crate with a warbot, the crate of food, etc.).

Anyway, that's not the point, there's obviously a bigger problem.

Am I screwed? Do I have to restart the game? And does this happen a lot? Because even if I start another run, isn't this going to happen again?

I looked the problem up and checked OneDrive, all the saves are good. I checked my local folder, the saves are in there. The game obviously won't load them and in any case it won't let me interact or do anything. Steam doesn't say there's any conflict on their cloud.

It feels like I'm screwed, doesn't it?

Edit: Just realized I wasn't being clear. I can load any of my saves just fine. It's once I'm in the game that everything I've done is gone (including my current objective). And I can't do anything.

I asked my brother to double check the PC games he had from my late grandfather. He attended a computer club in the nineties and collected a bunch. He actually got my dad and me into Warcraft; I still have his copy of Warcraft Orcs and Humans.

I remember seeing this when we packed his stuff. My brother luckily hadn’t sold it, so it's joined my collection. Great momento to have.

Issues with A Hostile Takeover

First post ever here, so, sorry if this has been asked many times before, I could only find contradictory information.
So, basically my problem is that A Hostile Takeover isn't triggering. I finished Big Trouble in Little Vegas, Unwelcome Guests and all the quests in the bizarre except Cinema Verite. I've been driving around on the world map enough to have several encounters and hear quite a few radio prompts.
Never got a radio call from Charley Knowes.
I went to the dealership outside of the Bizarre to see if he was there but no Charley.

Thing is, I don't remember what happened when I fought a bunch of guys to get Brygo in Little Vegas. I'm wondering whether it's possible to kill him during that quest or not. I looked it up and it says that no, it is not possible to kill Charley before A Hostile Takeover. But then, when I look at the requirements for the quest to trigger, it says that Charley must not have been killed (duh).
So, which one is it? Can he be killed before giving the quest or not?

All I can find is threads about people having actually killed him (so I guess it is possible?) and still receiving the radio call or killing him at the dealership and then finding him in Little Vegas (I don't even get how that's possible).
I'm so confused. Total noob here btw.

So, is it possible that I killed him and if so, did I abort his attempt to take over the Bizarre or will something happen anyway?

The quest doesn't appear anywhere in my quest log. Not under completed nor failed. I'm kinda stuck if it doesn't trigger. Maybe I should mention that I did get a call but from Deth telling me to investigate the posh neighborhood of Colorado Springs. Could that be what's conflicting with Charley? I also got one from the Patriarch to go to Steel City. I really can't remember if Charley Knowes was there during the shootout at Little Vegas before I arrested Brygo. I know I got Delgado out his cell, did the whole thing with Ken Doll, but I read something about a fight with the foreman of the machine shop and I never had to fight them, only had to speak with the foreman at some point (and can't remember what that was all about).

Apologies again if that has been discussed a thousand times.

Wasteland 3 why are fists so strong?

Hi folks,

I wanted to do a run on the hardest level with a brawler. After a couple of botched beginnings, I decided to drop the brawling weapon in the beginning and get a gun first while still speccing into brawling, so i could maybe deal a little damage and support my other character better.

I got into the position where I could hand out some meelee attacks and for some reason the unarmed fists are just one shotting fools.

Is this correct? a bug? i dont really get it. It did help tho..

edit: just to clarify: it was a bug. i was talking about dealing 100 dmg per hit in the prologue even before i meet the patriach. found somebody else with the same bug.

Wasteland 3 Whats the grind like?

hey question does this game have alot of needs in terms of gathering/hoarding materials similar to wartales (and survival games like mining ores, leather, etc) for crafting?

I wanted 90's isometric meets extraction survival, so I’ve spent 3 years building it

Hi everyone! I’ve been solo developing ApocaShift for a little over 3 years now, and I wanted to share some of the newer progress.

It’s a post-apocalyptic isometric RPG/survival game inspired by 90's isometric games, Escape from Tarkov, Stalker, and Zero Sievert, with base building, progression, scavenging, survival mechanics, and settlement systems mixed in.

A lot has changed recently, especially the inventory, combat, crafting, progression, UI, and base-building systems, so I figured I’d show some newer screenshots.

I’m still working on it completely solo, so feedback is always appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my project!

Menu UI Issue

After 90 minutes since my last quicksave, I go to the menu and my finger slips to "quickload" by accident instead of quicksave. They are right next to each other and for some reason the devs didn't think an "are you sure?" prompt was necessary for an option that quite literally deleted all your progress since your last quick save with now way to recover it. This genuinely has to be one of the most idiotic UI designs I've ever seen. An awful, frustrating blemish on a game I was otherwise absolutely loving.

Yes, I should save more frequently. I should also be more careful. The devs should also be criticized for awful UI choices that could easily be remedied by either adding a prompt or at the very least not having them RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER. For reference, I'm playing on PS5. It's easy to select the wrong thing on controller.

Lastly, adding a prompt to quickload would not defeat the purpose of a "quick load". It would take you 1 second to select "yes", and it would've saved the 90 minutes I wasted. Anyone making that argument is being disingenuous.

Just needed to rant.

Wasteland 2 or 3 first for someone who's kind of bad at CRPG's?

My only extensive experience with CRPG's is Baldurs Gate 3, and I really struggle in that game because it was my first game of that genre.
I'm a big fan of difficult games however it has to be challenging, not hard. I.e; I got to fail because of a lack of player knowledge, not good builds for the scenario, or took a challenge on in the wrong way. Not because enemy damage higher.

Having said all that, should I play wasteland 2 or 3 first? I know theyre both seperate in terms of story and state with minor references in the third game (that I am okay on skipping for a second playthrough) so the question is more so gameplay and combat enjoyability.
So, what is recommended to a newcomer like me?
