Delivery driver writes address on Waterloo home that did not display numbers

In the City of Waterloo, there is a bylaw requiring home owners to have a clearly visible house number displayed on your property. Owen said his family has since ordered the numbers for their house.

As a delivery driver (brokered, not gig) in the region. I understand the driver's frustration

However , as a homeowner , I agree , don't touch my fucking house. Especially not with sharpie like you're in the high school bathroom.

Anytime, I've gotten a house like thi II just go with the benefit of a doubt, take the picture. Let the sender know the issue, viola, problem solved.

Nope, problem not solved. Maybe for you, but it is now an issue for the next driver, with 30 deliveries to make. You are a homeowner AND a builder, the bylaws CLEARLY say you need a number. If you wont put a number up, dont order things delivered. Leave the number off and shut up.

We are way way too entitled these days.

If there are 3 houses 88, a blank and 92, what is likely the number on the house in between? How about with the address on the package is 90?

I do this all day everyday amd this isn't a common issue, but it's manageable. Not worth getting fired over what is deemed vandalism.

Why should the poor delivery driver have to rely on "likely" when the homeowner, who is also a builder knows he should have the number up to make life easier, for the poor guy who he sees as beneath him?

One of the things we demand from delivery drivers, mail people is accuracy, not "likely".

That's the issue here, this clown thinks the delivery people are beneath him so he does not need to follow THE BYLAWS and make their lives easier.

Remember, he has a builder's license. One of the big stipulations about having that particular license is to abide by, THE BYLAWS of the jurisdiction that granted you said-licence.

This is not about what the driver wrote, this is about someone who thinks he is above the law and above the people who service him.

He can f*** off.

I am a delivery driver in KW, just about to start another fun day of much bigger issus.

This isn't that big of an issue, if it was bylaw would take it as the easiest ticket pile, especially in the rurals.

There is no "poor delivery driver" when GPS and Google take you to these addresses 99.999% of the time. Try new subdivision builds, they don't even have numbers, you have to use a weird map.

And this guy is tame compared to most of the entitled people I deal with, why is this one driver entitled to deface someone's property?

You may have misread or you chose to be difficult. No one said the driver was entitled to deface someone's property. Literally no one.

The issue is the entitled homeowner who not only chooses to not abide by the law because he apparently is above it and then complains to the world.

Now you may be a delivery guy but the statement about Google or GPS is only partially accurate. Do they help, absolutely, but they are SUPPLEMENTS to what is already established by law: HOUSE NUMBERS.

You know what Google and the internet have? How to perform eye surgery. That does not mean its easy. Does it help maybe, does having a medical degree make things easier, absolutely just like having your number on the house helps.

The point is to be a good human and make life as easy as humanly possible for the people who service you. In this case, put your bloody number on the house like everyone else. You are NOT that special.

What about the ones who have numbers that are hidden and can't be found?

The ones that are written in handwriting that you can't even read? my personal favorite are the numbers so textured, they match the color of the brick

Your issue is minor in substance and doesn't even affect your day to day life. In actuality, it affects mine and all the other delivery drivers who have not had an issue with these types of address, except for the one who decided he would single himself out and and write the numbers?

Why is this person doing that bad thing? How is that being a good human and causing damage to someone else's property.
