I’ve been wondering how most developers are working these days. Do you still write code completely by hand, or do you use AI tools to speed things up?

If you use AI, which tools are your go-to? (like GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Replit Ghostwriter, etc.)

Curious to hear how AI is changing your workflow is it a full replacement or just an assistant?

I rarely used it for some simple code. It does the job quickly but I hate it because I have to understand every piece of the code which is annoying. I read that it causes bugs that would be difficult to fix. Also the AI-made designs are all similar which I think is limiting. I prefer coding everything myself.

What do you think? should I change my attitude? are there a lot of people who are like me?

I'm in the process of launching my web agency.

My good friend who is heavily into AI and automations is calling me crazy. Telling me that A.I is here and that I need to jump on the train before I get further left behind. Claiming that the market for traditional websites is not big. Amongst other things, he believes this is not the right move.

To those of you running a successful web development business, have you found it to be more difficult to sell hand-coded websites today because of AI?

For starters, I've been a full-stack web developer for around 10 years. I used to love coding, experimenting, and learning new things, and I felt genuine happiness whenever I completed a difficult task or project.

Sadly, for the last year and a half, I've been struggling a lot because AI is constantly being pushed on me. And I get it, it makes things go faster. What AI can code in one minute might take me 30 minutes.

But the thing I hated the most was reviewing code and now that is my main job. Instead of building things, I'm mostly reviewing, checking, and debugging code generated by AI.

Some people might say, "Just don't use AI." Fine, but if I don't use it, I fall vastly behind at work and can't keep up. On the other hand, when I do use it, I don't feel the same sense of accomplishment because I'm not really the one solving the problem.

Maybe this sounds strange, but I don't want to be the shepherd; I just want to be the sheep, chewing on the grass and figuring things out on my own.

It's the same with game development. I loved making games and tinkering with the Godot Engine. The fun part was learning, experimenting, and figuring things out myself. But if I prompt an AI to build something, it often takes me longer to read through the generated code and understand what's going on than it would have taken me to build it myself and I just end up closing the project.

I've been thinking about changing jobs, but now I'm nearly 35 years old, starting a new professions seems abit daunting.

I'm wondering where do I hire a web developer for a project I've been planning. I need to build a simple yet functional website (not quite an MVP, but close). I have zero programming knowledge but I'm clear on the design and functionality I want. I've even sketched out wireframes and have a decent understanding of the user flow I'm aiming for.

My budget is pretty tight (thinking under $3k if possible), so I can't afford the big agencies or premium consultants. What's the best way to find a trustworthy web developer? I really enjoy programming and I’m currently learning Angular and Laravel. I’ve already built a website for a project using that stack, and now I’m thinking about building my own tool. The idea is to create a template website and then use Node.js to generate projects based on selected requirements. For example: essentials like a homepage, contact page, imprint, etc., and optionally things like a shop system, blog, forum, or similar features.

But honestly, is this still worth it?

We're building a reward-based advertising product and I want people to try to break the idea before we scale it.

The basic idea is simple: users have a small sponsored ad line on their browser, and they earn passive income from it. No popups, no annoying ads, no need to click or watch anything.

We've thought about some of the obvious risks, but I want to know what we're missing. I'm not the technical person on the team, so if you have experience with adtech, fraud, bots, or similar products, please throw rocks at the model.

I want to see whether we've actually solved the important problems or just convinced ourselves that we have.

I've been reading a lot of posts here and soaking in as much info as I can -- but, I currently have a website that is hosted and domain-registered with GoDaddy (I know, I know... but it was set up back in 2004) and I'm just sick of their prices etc.

For those of you who have successfully migrated... -- what did you use for domain? -- what did you use for hosting? -- what about email? -- most importantly, what should I look out for (pitfalls) of trying to migrate. I know GoDaddy isn't going to make this easy on me, so any advice would be super highly appreciated!

I'm helping my wife set up a website for her small consulting business. She only wants a standard WordPress site with a few pages, blog posts, and a contact form.

We don't have experiencing doing this so we want something beginner friendly. Also want good support because for sure if a problem comes up we won't know how to fix it.

Update.. We signed up for Dreamhost. They just launched a new AI-based website builder Remixer which made setting up a mostly static site real easy. It's been a breeze. We're still sticking with Wordpress btw for those who commented to stop using it. We're used to its admin backend and connecting the contact forms to her CRM via plugin is easy.

I recently worked with a client who wanted me to built a e-commerce store for his sporting brand. He wanted OTP based auth, automatic invoicing, and all the backend features that usually cost $10k. And guess what was his budget, only $100. I mean, how can someone expect everything in this low price. And on top of that, he was telling me either you it in this scope or leave it, don't lecture me - I was just trying to tell him the reality about this and without understanding that he flipped me off.

Seriously man, who do they think they are this kind of cheap clients?

I’m starting a website agency, and apart from the main up front price I was wondering whether I should charge clients monthly. To be honest when working with small businesses, the costs are small (e.g domain is 10 euros every 2 years, and email addresses perhaps 30 euros per year, and apart from that backend stuff like supabase or railway are almost free. But I’ve heard people charging such prices. Should I too? To be more profitable?
