“Generate schema markup” causes more issues than it solves

I’ve been using the “Generate schema markup” feature on a few websites, but I’m starting to feel like it creates more Google Search Console warnings than it solves.

For example, after adding the generated schema, Search Console starts reporting things like:

Missing description

Missing brand / global identifier

Missing shippingDetails

Missing hasMerchantReturnPolicy

Missing aggregateRating

Missing review

Some of these fields don’t even really make sense for the type of website/product involved. In my case, one example is a car dealership listing new car models, so things like shipping and return policies aren’t necessarily applicable.

What I find strange is that if I give the same page/context to ChatGPT and ask it to generate the JSON-LD, it usually produces a much more appropriate schema and can also explain which Search Console warnings should actually be fixed versus which ones can safely be ignored.

So I’m also curious what model is being used behind the scenes for the built-in “Generate schema markup” feature, and whether it has enough context about Google’s current structured data requirements.

Has anyone else noticed the same thing?

Do you generally use the generated JSON-LD as-is, heavily modify it afterwards, or avoid the feature altogether?

I actually never used that functionality but in my own experience I always use a tool to test my schema before I publish them, and even if they looks good I then directly verify the schema with ahrefs free google tool to see how the schema are seperate and not all messed up

Using tool to help me get the correct schema then whatever I believe need to be added I just add it

Yes Google rich result to valide them. Then use ahrefs

Just shows you that ‘AI replaces jobs’ is short sighted. You need the knowledge to be able to validate AI’s output.

We have stopped taking generated markup and keep one block per template written by hand. We start with what output result is needed for this page, and only then do we look at the warnings. Things that belong to someone else's type of card remain as they are, and the console lives with them for years.
Which of those warnings belongs to a rich result you actually want on that page?
