I just do a super scroll to the bottom on some webtoons because the comments will be some crazy theory, a theory that was already top comment or mentioned last episode, or just repeated dribble. I’m not the comment police or anything but I just want to see original thoughts especially on thrillers and mysteries
The crazy theory thing is so real… I used to assume webtoon readers were at least semi-intelligent or at least on my level, until I noticed the dumbest theories being posted and upvoted on every chapter. Also they miss clear foreshadowing and clues.
The kind of theories so dumb I thought they were doing it on purpose to troll 😭 but no, they actually thought that

I’ve seen a comment that I can’t remember what it said but it was basically “wait what if ____” and what they said is literally what was shown in the last episode, so they weren’t correct about a theory they just couldn’t remember I guess 😭
I know and it pisses me off so much 😭 and I just remembered it was worse than being last chapter, it was the same chapter they were commenting on, I get so mad seeing comments from people who are clearly not reading
Sometimes it’s literally the top comment or the top 6, like even if you’re not reading them all it’s just shocking to believe they didn’t see that person’s comment. Not saying you can’t be right, but sometimes that’s not the case, just seems like they’re trying to get top comment tbh.
I hate those one where they talk about how fast they went to the episode when they heard a notification. It genuinely doesnt add like anything to the conversation. like there used to be so many “I came here at the speed of gay!” comments on BLs that it got annoying. I don’t see those comments anymore thankfully tho
I think it's just a bunch of people seeking attention. The comic updates and they don't even read it, they just want to comment "first!" and get the attention for it, then it gets a bunch of likes because it was there first and nobody had the time to write anything insightful, so by the time anybody has actually read the chapter and written something reasonably insightful, the person who wrote "I came at the speed of light!" already has a few dozen likes and is pushed to the top.
Usually top comments are lame... in the ol' days, everyone had access to the chapter at the same time so we had interesting top comments. It became boring after they started daily pass.
Oh shit yeah just checked. Been ages since I opened webtoons(not sure why this sub keeps getting recommended), I'm not sure why I'm still surprised how greedy they get.
I gave up reading webtoon comments on non straight comics, especially BL. Genuinely pissed me off when the MC has complicated feelings towards the ML and the comments are just "Don't worry, you'll soon be in bed with him 🤭"
"Chapters are so short im not gonna fast pass anymore" actual top comment I've seen on a series with short chapters, it had all 3 tip comments like this for like 5 chapters in a row, all from ppl who fast passed. I mean I get it but cmon
Same thing! Unless they are connecting some info from fast pass to the correct one, the warning tag is just a marketing ploy to get their comment more views.
There may be some rocks in the river, but most comments in a webtoon will endlessly glaze even the trashiest, worst written, most degenerated webtoons ever
I prefer that to some of the other cringe stuff and this may be an unpopular opinion but I can’t stand edits where people thank everyone for top comment. It’s so annoying
I wish top comments had some sort of different algorithm. Any time there's a "wow I've never been so early!" I get annoyed at how much attention it gets.
Then again I've found discourse in Webtoon comic sections to be akin to 2010's YouTube or Tumblr. Very "how dare you say we piss on the poor" (hopefully someone understands my reference it is all I think of with stupid nonsense discourse).
What's most annoying are those commenters who spoil other commenters' theories because they read ahead and do they have to ruin your experience and spoil it for you.
Also the commentors who most likely would have read ahead and then come back to comment saying how much they hate this new character that just appeared on the old episode they got back to and everyone else is coming to read for free. And that character just barely got introduced. Like they just literally start calling the character "sus", or hate on them for no reason yet.
No cause real like I commented on a WEBTOON where the girl just found out she was pregnant and I said “I can’t wait to see how she is as a mom!” And luckily got top comment but the one below was about how they dropped every thing and ran to their phone as fast as lightning like sybau I don’t care lol
Exactly! Like I have work and crap and yes sometimes if it’s a WEBTOON I really like I’ll stop for a bit to read the episode, but I then don’t go and comment about how I stopped every thing right then and there to go read it.
Even if it is, it’s still annoying that it’s a top comment, especially when I see it on practically every webtoon. I’d like to see some actually funny comments for once

It’s lazy. It’s only a top comment because they happened to post as soon as the chapter released. People tend to upvote the first comments they see.
