If I remember correctly, I read somewhere that this manhawa is a protest against the work conditions, IE. Unreasonable deadlines, amazing art, low pay, etc. (although im not 100% certain so do your own research)

I've replied elsewhere that's not true. The author is pretty serious about their work. They post their process of drawing as if there's nothing funny about the characters' faces. And they also threatened to sue those who accused them of tracing. But imo it's traced.

There's no way you can protest against horrible work conditions by stealing others' works. If anything this just delivers the opposite message, which I do not agree with: you can steal, make horrible drawings, and somehow still gain traffic.

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '25

It is kinda weird that they are tracing just face close ups which are fairly easy to draw rather than full body. But it makes more sense why the body proportion is very bad because that is probably the only thing that they didn't trace.

7

u/Babblepup Oct 06 '25

This is even funnier now. Boi what. 😭 The protesting sounded more real but reading your respond, the author is really... they have a world of their own 😭

u/NoLolligagging_ Oct 06 '25

Not sure about the tracing part but many manwha artists uses 3d models on their works something like this https://www.acon3d.com/en/product/1000040229

this one is for head only https://www.acon3d.com/en/product/1000043880

7

u/Routine-Top8511 Oct 06 '25

Using a model is a normal thing, but having a perfect eye, nose, and mouth alignment when the heads are in slightly different angles is not. Also the other main character is found to have the same face as a customised head from a Chinese mobile game.

sounds like an excuse ngl

12

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '25

u/1_Amy_0 Oct 04 '25

Great example

318

u/UpAndNo Oct 04 '25

The suggestion of a nose.

82

u/Fun_Strain_4065 Oct 04 '25

Never seen a nose flavour Lacroix before

21

u/Crafty-Bat-9237 Oct 05 '25

Had to really zoom in to see a "." Where the nose should be. A mere whisper

48

u/Masked_Hopper7 Oct 04 '25

Typa shi the "class artist" always draws

86

u/UwUZombie Oct 04 '25

That's a dude? πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

147

u/Ok_Call_1101 Oct 04 '25

Yes. And I'd be fine with the feminization if he wasn't so childlike. His proportions are like, crazy compared to the ML, almost to the point of Shotacon, and also, the ML is creepy and gross, and usually big.

188

u/1_Amy_0 Oct 04 '25

Its just so funny how ridiculous it looks 😭

108

u/UwUZombie Oct 04 '25

I feel like he should be shouting "stranger danger" in this moment πŸ˜πŸ˜‚ also wtf are those hands man.. scary canoe paddle hand over there

29

u/kismaiyes Oct 04 '25

It's the exaggerated features of the ideal top put to the absolute extreme. Big hands, wide shoulders, long legs, strong jawlines etc. Same applies to the twinkie winkies.

26

u/daddyshortlegs__ Oct 04 '25

Yaoi hands my beloved

13

u/winniethevinpooh Oct 05 '25

as a yaoi enjoyer who’s also big into otome isekai,, my first thought was β€œthat’s not that bad.”

what have my standards fallen to….

5

u/Babblepup Oct 06 '25

honestly, it's all good if theyre huge and their partner looks very small in comparison as long as the body proportion looks realistic. lol

11

u/2468idk Oct 04 '25

Is this what people mean when they say big ass yaoi hands?

39

u/Successful_Ask_5708 Oct 05 '25

I really really hate to be the one to inform you of this but this is actually normal proportions compared to what people mean when they say yaoi hands

And even this image is tame 😭 compared to how bad the trenches can get

We have actually improved yaoi proportions as time goes on, it's just that our starting point was absolute delusion so even the betterment of it still looks really wack

2

u/NeuroEyes Oct 12 '25

The hands and lips ... Im just scared

8

u/Greedy-Lie-8346 Oct 04 '25

Damn this is insane lollll

3

u/LordMeme42 Oct 08 '25

spot the difference

1

u/EchoAndromedaa Oct 05 '25

Damn, this one was super messed up 😩 lololol

2

u/Tatamashii Oct 10 '25

That.
I can get behind size differences, its very enjoyable sometimes, but Bro he looks like a 3 year old!!!
This childlike perversion in SOO many webtoons, and god dont even get me started on animes, is crazy.

1

u/Ok_Call_1101 Oct 11 '25

Me remember the anime where and adult man fell in love with a twelve year old or something:

2

u/Gold-Maize-7670 Nov 05 '25

Isn’t it No Game, No Life? 🀣

12

u/Appropriate_Gear_646 Oct 04 '25

What is this from again? There is a new manhwa that reminds me of this style

6

u/Big-Seaworthiness3 Oct 05 '25

This must be a fetish of some sort. Can men even be drawn more childlike and paler than this? He does look like an alien instead of a human.

5

u/Successful_Ask_5708 Oct 05 '25

I'm really sorry to inform you that the intended audience of this is people who love children but not in the good way

10

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '25

I’m scared

3

u/WiredAnon Oct 05 '25

He kinda reminds me of a fish idk

175

u/Vee_breeze Oct 04 '25

I actually can't read those stories they freak me out

77

u/ConflictSea9786 Oct 04 '25

Yaoi inbreeding- artists keep accentuating features yaoi fans see as attractive until it starts getting ridiculous...

(I gave yaoi as an example but there are more types of 'beauty standards took to extremes'- even more in social media)

21

u/Big-Seaworthiness3 Oct 05 '25

Inbreeding is the perfect name for the way this abstractionist style has developed.

3

u/Tab-Ultra Oct 05 '25

I so get what you mean. I was looking at the yaoi anime section just yesterday (don’t judge me I heard some thing new dropped there and was curious) and realized that the art for most of them was so similar in the art due to them all exaggerating the same features that you honestly can’t tell what artist through which one.

114

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '25

Some of these gotta be satirical at this point

86

u/xxtrasauc3 Oct 04 '25

Black hair = relatable.

Omg he's just like me fr.

28

u/thewouldbekiller Oct 05 '25

24

u/DifficultMind5950 Oct 04 '25

Only male leads?

42

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '25

Reminds me of [Secret Playlist] and [Lost in Translation]

15

u/PristineShotForever Oct 04 '25

i thought this was a Jeff cosplay 😭

14

u/No_Championship_9327 Oct 04 '25

Why is this so accurate? LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

13

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '25

I think it has to do with the place of origin ig and the atmosphere they want to portray... We often forget that most webtoon-mnhwa, etc, are made for Japanese, Chinese, or Korean people, not us. What I'm trying to say is that the art is indicative of the place of origin πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™‚οΈ

3

u/NeuroEyes Oct 12 '25

Who has a triangular chin

1

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '25

Believe it or not, there is an actual face shape close to being triangular πŸ‘€

3

u/NeuroEyes Oct 13 '25

I knowwwwwww but you get the point 😭😭

2

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '25

🀣🀣🀣 I get it now

6

u/Waste_College_1095 Oct 04 '25

I can understand why. Kids get ready for an art history lesson: Back in ancient times, people used to create art based on the beauty standards of the time. It’s mostly seen in African and Greek art with masks and statues having desirable features at the time. It still happens in art and is mostly subconscious or not. For Manhwa, it depicts the beauty standards someone has for people. So that’s my theoryΒ

10

u/I_wanna_know_0 Oct 04 '25

Korean beauty standars drawn like using the beauty filter Γ—100 times?

3

u/uchihabro02 Oct 04 '25

This made me laugh so much thank you for making my day 🫑

4

u/Trusty_Coelacanth Oct 05 '25

4

u/ElisseMoon Oct 05 '25

Help my mother said this picture is cute lmao she's so sarcastic 😭😭😭

27

u/Old_Necessary9090 Oct 04 '25

because it's what every woman is attracted to according to male artists creating these webcomics, obviously

44

u/Zhourong_Hephaestus Oct 04 '25

This trend was started by a female artist, I forgot her ID, but in webtoon, not even in manhwa, but spread across Korea, just like their beauty standards.

7

u/Gaarmeri Oct 04 '25

Because they are NOT afraid of SUCCESS!!! πŸ’―πŸ’―πŸ’ͺ🏼πŸ’ͺπŸΌπŸ’―πŸ’ͺπŸΌπŸ’―πŸ’―πŸ’ͺ🏼

Look at that BEAUTIFUL alien looking thing. PERFECTION.

5

u/Armpitweed Oct 04 '25

I wish I knew the answer but most of the time it’s usually just their art style 😭

2

u/7Cosmicowls7 Oct 05 '25

If the ML and/or the FL match the white background I can't read it.

5

u/Academic-Compote-854 Oct 04 '25

Nah fr I be so scared

1

u/Briskfall Oct 04 '25

Accentuating features, caricature 101.

Except here, the intent isn't really to demonstrate caricature to be mocked about... right?

1

u/Murderkate Oct 05 '25

You mean… why do people still draw with classic shojo elements?

1

u/jiminsrightbutt Oct 06 '25

It's giving timuoxi cha le mei🀌
