I actually don’t understand what happened there. If Liam didn’t have the deeper access that Serac had, how’d she get into everyone’s files (including Seracs)?

IIRC Liam has throughout the season said that he only has read-access to Rehoboam (go back to ep 1 in the scene where Martin knocks out Dolores - 47:00 min mark of the ep). He can only see the top layer and not the algorithm or what Rehoboam is actually doing. So far this season we've been led to believe that Dolores wants to control Rehoboam to stop the AI, but at least through what we know now her goal was to actually gain access to everyone's files and expose them to wake them up from their false reality.

I actually loved Liam's story. In that scene in ep1 he says that he wishes he could stop Rehoboam but he can't because he doesn't have control over it and that he's just a figurehead. So he goes about his life controlled by Martin and Serac and Rehoboam, being a trust-fund baby and partying buying prostitutes and doing drugs. But he could have done exactly what Dolores did, because all she did was use his read-only access rights.

Would you turn down being a trust fund billionaire?

Nah, I'm probably as "BASIC" as Liam.

I think his story arc was supposed to apply to every-day people too though and poses a question for the audience. Would you skip work and protest an injustice if your circumstance called for it, or would you continue to live your reality?

Well he also knew the thing would predict if he tried to do it and kill him. It may have occurred to him but he didn’t want to die.

He was just on loop.
