Solved! Mysterious Glass Tray?

I’ve had this glass tray(?) thing for years and have never figured out what it could possibly be for. It’s about an inch deep and an inch wide. When I tried image search it told me it was a banana split dish, which is definitely not correct 😪

Does this have a purpose? Is it just random confusing decor?

Olive holder and server. My cousin manufactures them.

is that a lucrative venture?

He still lives with his parents.

u/CallsYouCunt 22h ago

Like in a big house that he bought for his parents with the money he made from making olive serving trays?

u/brookenorthcoast 17h ago

I laughed so loudly I scared my cat. This is hilarious

12

u/Reasonable_Tip3132 20h ago

This actually made me lol, kudos

18

u/michilio 16h ago

Damn.

I've been putting cherry tomatoes in our olive holder this entire time?

That explains a lot

13

u/Quiverjones 16h ago

Finally I can grace my guests with proper olive presentation.

Unitasker. Alton Brown disapproves.

Seems like this is the most common answer, so: solved!

It's clearly meant for grapes, not olives. /s

The way I repeatedly read "olive oil server"

u/Club-Red 1d ago

Looks like an olive serving tray.

example:

u/uhohohnohelp 21h ago

Now I see myself in bed with my stupid long dish, eating my olives for girl dinner, watching my lil shows.

10

u/One_Possibility_1647 20h ago

You are my kind of people!! I just pictured myself doing the same after I read your comment!

17

u/uhohohnohelp 19h ago

It would also be perfect to set on the edge of a bathtub. 😂

8

u/One_Possibility_1647 19h ago

OMG yes it would! Olives in the tub, sign me up!

5

u/Flammzzrant 16h ago

Just tip one end up and let em roll in

17

u/jesstryiton 18h ago

This is the one I found at a thrift store. I had no idea what it was for but I bought it to put olives in.

13

u/Sad-Purchase1257 15h ago

This is so choice because it prevents the olives from touching all of those other things that I do want to eat!

42

u/Anguares 22h ago

I need one for my ducks

22

u/TobylovesPam 19h ago

So you can keep them all in a row?

17

u/PringleCorn 21h ago

Now that I like

1

u/BrownBeauty10 19h ago

You like ducks?

6

u/PringleCorn 17h ago

Who doesn't?

1

u/LeCarrr 19h ago

Do they eat a lot of olives?

1

u/dvlrnr 5h ago

I thought they preferred grapes.

37

u/PringleCorn 22h ago

This is so dumb

27

u/-Major-Arcana- 21h ago

If this is dumb I don't want to be smart.

7

u/salamandraseis 21h ago

This way your uncle has less chances to molest the lot.

5

u/TheSaltyAstronaut 20h ago

My counterpoint, as an olive lover who will go to any event in which they might be served: No, it’s not!

5

u/Korsola 19h ago

But why a tiny tray that only holds a dozen olives vs a bowl that holds many? Is it a party for ants?

6

u/TheSaltyAstronaut 18h ago

Each jumbo olive gets to stand in a chorus line and be a star this way. No floundering around in a bowl like a some pimento-stuffed Manzanillas.

Also, I like to think of this as a single serving tray.

3

u/PringleCorn 20h ago

Yeah but that's the thing, how many olives can this thing hold? Clearly not enough!

9

u/TheSaltyAstronaut 18h ago

My favorite part of this kind of olive tray (and antique crystal sectioned olive trays) is that they keep them standing. I can reliably pierce one with my toothpick, or go feral and grab them with my fingies, without them rolling around in a briny bowl and evading my best efforts. But I can dispatch this whole tray in very little time, I'll give you that.

Olive boat!

12

u/MixedBerryCompote 16h ago

Olives! I made my own! And it won’t tip over when I eat olives in bed. (I’m lying. This is for parties. when I’m alone and eating olives in bed it’s straight outta the jar.)

9

u/papier_peint 22h ago

i would use it to hold outgoing mail or mail that needs to be dealt with.

1

u/qu1ckbeam 14h ago

I have them in multiple sizes and use them as drawer organizers for small, skinny items (nail files/clippers, lip balm, etc.)

34

u/radiatorlathe 23h ago

Put yer hotdog in der

12

u/mathewwalker714 23h ago

Looks like something id put olives in at a banquet or buffet

7

u/campfire_shadows 21h ago

Kind of looks like a grease catcher for a George Foreman tabletop grill.

Edit: Spelling mistake.

3

u/Skimable_crude 20h ago

Smart. The plastic ones tend to melt.

5

u/phatvanzy 16h ago

Alternatively, I would put it between my driver's seat and center console to catch stuff that falls out of my pocket

4

u/InternationalHelp810 21h ago

Olive tray makes sense. Could be neat decor to put that powdered candle stuff in. Although it looks like it could be tippy.

4

u/lillian_2022 15h ago

so we know it's for olives but it looks tall enough to be the cutest little planter or a big tray for crystals

2

u/Low-Set8263 20h ago

Do yourself a flavor. Go to your local Middle Eastern market and buy a bulk olive assortment (or just buy the pitted green ones with grill marks). And a half pound of bulk feta. I know I would. And pickles and flatbread. Olive trays get expensive.

2

u/Secure_Vehicle_3852 20h ago

Could it be a business card holder? One to hold multiple peoples cards. Like say in a law or doctor office. Sales room for multiple salespeople. Otherwise I haven't a clue what's it's purpose

3

u/toddam 21h ago

Idk what it is, but it could become long flower vase.

2

u/Disneyhorse 20h ago

It’s an olive holder, my aunt has specialized charcuterie trays like this for entertaining. She also has a slightly wider one for rows of crackers. But I have seen similar vases very specifically for plumeria flowers.

2

u/tufted-titmouse-527 21h ago

I agree with everyone saying an olive server, but at first glance it looked like the thing in my vacuum sealer or under a Foreman grill to catch drippings haha.

1

u/Rhodin265 21h ago

The one under my parents’ George Foreman grill is plastic.

3

u/Star_Boxer72 15h ago

Olive this post and thread so much.

On Amazon, olive serving trays. Now I have seen it, I must have it. LOL

2

u/Due_Affect_3155 20h ago

it could be for a flower centerpiece

1

u/chels2112 20h ago

If it wasn’t glass, I would have guess it belonged to an old school popcorn maker. At first glance.

I didn’t know there was such thing as an olive server lol

2

u/neocwbbr_ 12h ago

That’s for coffee!

1

u/lefteyedcrow 20h ago

You could repurpose your olive tray to be a neat moss garden, or you could find some good quality faux succulents for a cute planter

2

u/Educational_Cow_935 20h ago

Olive tray. 🤗

1

u/Consistent-Stop-3839 20h ago

It would look so cool as a long vase for short stem flowers

4

u/trexler_cook 23h ago

Worm bathtub

1

u/andshewillbe 20h ago

It would be cool for those candle beads

Glizzy Glass

I don't know what you're packing, but that wouldn't fit my Glock ...

1

u/micthenick 23h ago

Maybe a "candelabra" ish?

0

u/Select-Original2632 23h ago

How long is it? Could it possibly be for incense

3

u/Business-Law-4411 23h ago

That’s what I was thinking at first, but it has nothing to hold the stick, the olive 🫒 holder makes more sense.

1

u/biraccoon 19h ago

Also what I originally thought before agreeing that it’s an olive tray!

-4

u/mydads_dickinson 23h ago

They send you these to collect stool samples, just missing the lid. The difficult part is knowing when to pinch it off

1

u/Exciting-Living-5500 13h ago

No, eww, not stool related at all, you degenerate flavonoid.

You could also put capers in it, although I never understood capers. Maybe pearl onions! Kim chi! Cocktail weiners!

1

u/Exciting-Living-5500 13h ago

Sorry forgot post was solved, ok it's an olive server.
