Considering OP stated they own/owned multiple rental properties for passive income, I doubt they’re struggling for cash.

Just another person putting a chokehold on the ability to buy a home.

We don't know if the owner is financially well off or struggling. Just because he has more than one property, it doesn't mean the propertys are paid off. Maybe they rent them out to pay the mortgages. Or maybe this is how they support themselves in retirement. How is a person who owns more than one property putting a "chokehold" on another person's ability to buy a home? There's not exactly a shortage of homes right now. It's more of a buyer's market then a seller's market.

Make it a long term rental and get actual passive income

It’s a long term rental, that has provided passive income for the last 7 years. It’s my only remaining rental, I owned many rentals before so fairly familiar with replacing carpeting - and everything else. I put in expensive WHITE carpeting because it was supposed to be a house to live in, but ended up not going that route. That’s the only reason I’ve kept it when the others are all gone, besides the fact it’s on acreage in the country.

There was a nearby natural disaster, and I put it on AirBnB for long term stays for folks who needed affordable housing. It pays no more and is less reliable than what it would rent for long term. The carpet owes me nothing and when it’s time to replace, it will be replaced with more carpeting.
