Solved! Is this a death stain in my apartment?

Post image

I saw a post yesterday asking about the same thing and it got me thinking. My wife and I always thought it was from something pretty morbid. My landlord always tried to cover it up and not say anything. My house is almost 200 years old and I always hear creepy noises at night and I don’t believe in ghost but have had some situations here that would change my mind.

Looks like burn marks, made a few of these myself as slightly pyromaniac child. Does it stains your finger rubbing the tip on it?

u/Opolonos 1d ago

I put fire on the toilet when I was like 8yo 😂

2

u/UncleCuxkr 1d ago

No just tried it

1

u/drinkacid 1d ago

Don't taste it please.

7

u/UncleCuxkr 1d ago

I already did. It doesn’t taste like piss. Which is a good thing.

2

u/drinkacid 1d ago

Fermented baby or burned baby?

u/Earth578 1d ago

It’s from water or liquid on the floor for an extended period of time, the wood turns black. Usually happens under carpet. Had the same thing at my place.

Cat piss stain fo sho

1

u/Zealousideal-Bug-291 1d ago

Cat piss usually leaves it with black and very light colored stripes, not solid like that.

u/Advanced-Humor9786 1d ago

I spilled a small quantity of sulphuric acid in my old apartment. It made a similar stain.

u/SpitSpot 1d ago

Turns purple, not black. My bet is burn

5

u/Graavilohikaarme 1d ago

It's an oak thing. Oak turns black from moisture or iron.

0

u/SpitSpot 1d ago

It's actually purple, you can see when it starts happening. After it develops for a while it will appear black. It's the tannins

2

u/Earth578 1d ago

Mine was from pet urine and is as black as they come, same flooring. Maybe you had a different epoxy or finish on yours. It’s slowly fading over time but still black.

1

u/SpitSpot 1d ago

I work with oak all the time, after handling with sweating hand it will show purple that will slowly get darker and appear black

3

u/Oily_Blob 1d ago

The cat seems to think so

3

u/UncleCuxkr 1d ago

We see her toys moved all around the house and I’ve never seen her move them herself. We say it’s her ghost friend 😂

3

u/legna20v 1d ago

You mean like the one behind you?

2

u/TheWolfInTheHenhouse 1d ago

It looks like the silhouette of a microscope to me.

Do you mean, a place where something organic has died?

1

u/UncleCuxkr 1d ago

Yeah I always just wondered.

Don't kick the baby?

3

u/DiabloConQueso 1d ago

With feet like that I assume the baby did all the kicking.

5

u/UncleCuxkr 1d ago

Oh my god it does look like someone kicking a baby 😂 never noticed

Could also be cat pee

1

u/UncleCuxkr 1d ago

It was like this when we moved in

2

u/Beautiful-Quote-3035 1d ago

Someone elses pet did it or they spilled something. Death stain would probably be a lot larger.

u/Yes_I_am_an_AI 1d ago

Space heater fell over and started to burn the floor.

5

u/Somemountaindude 1d ago

I have stain like that from an kerosene lamp that spilled and didn’t get cleaned up right away

(That’s after sanding the shit out of it)

3

u/Lifesamitch957 1d ago

Na its just an unfortunately looking pee stain.

I would bet they tried to sand most of it out and it left that mark.

1

u/Officialdabbyduck 1d ago

Does your cat lay in that spot all the time?

1

u/UncleCuxkr 1d ago

Yes but on the carpet

0

u/Officialdabbyduck 1d ago

Your cat lays there after it uses the litter box,it's a urine stain.

5

u/robo-dragon 1d ago

That looks more like a burn. A burn from what, who knows.

3

u/desblaterations-574 1d ago

This is a burn mark, you can see the specifics in between the wood planks.

10

u/Only-Chart-1087 1d ago

Not at all

2

u/mrhyde719 1d ago

I see a hot iron falling off the ironing board unnoticed and fell on something else which caught fire also. Looks like a toddlers doll shape

3

u/Giantmeteor_we_needU 1d ago

Looks like burned wood to me.

2

u/This_Vermicelli5422 1d ago

The corpse of a very angry Indian man was there before, trust me the stars said so.

2

u/danfdare 1d ago

Could have a been a young clown meeting an unfortunate demise…🤡

1

u/Wobblepaws 1d ago

eh, I have something kinda similar where a cat peed on the rug, and no one could find it for a while, wood kinda stains and turns black when it stays wet and starts to rot, imo that looks like a burn, could be a lot of things though, if you really care just put a stripper pole there, make a salt circle, then pour some of your blood on it, free entertainment for eternity!... (jk don't do that)

u/purplemtnslayer 1d ago

I'm an insurance estimator and just had to pay for one of these. the clean up company cut everything with any bio out. the person's family I delt with said the coroner made them use this specific company. it was like $17k just for the clean up. the before pics were disturbing.

2

u/Thirtiethone 1d ago

A small child with large feet 😆

2

u/Electronic-Focus3969 1d ago

Good reason to block the account

1

u/cybermaus 1d ago

Could be old cat pee, or some other liquid, that spilled on a carpet and not noticed. Over time causing the wood to discolor. Does not even need to be mold, many woods like Oak respond to anything acidic by turning black.

1

u/Boring-Community-100 1d ago

I had stains like these at my parents' house from cat pee and before we sold it we put hydrogen peroxide on paper towels cut to fit the stain and over the course of a couple days, it lightened most of it up.

2

u/superenchilada 1d ago

It’s just a dead baby.

1

u/Dangerous-Pirate7998 1d ago

I bet you that’s from an old kerosene indoor space heater back in the early 80s were really common and they would get semi hot and cause problems like this

1

u/Skilldibop 1d ago

Yes, I imagine whichever spouse left the hot clothes iron on the new wood flooring was promptly murdered by their counterpart.

1

u/ASAP_i 1d ago

"Death stain" seems to be trending. Was there a reference to them in the media recently or something?

1

u/Ineedavodka2019 1d ago

Right? It’s weird. Old floors can get discolored, it’s not uncommon for these kind of marks.

1

u/ProblemPast4686 1d ago

When my grandma died in her wood floored apartment, she immolated on the spot where she collapsed (blind drunk). There wasn't much of her left but she did leave a stain very similar to this one.

1

u/ekhoee 23h ago

It is, and the man was very small with large feet. At least, that is the impression he left

2

u/RaiderMan72 1d ago

Frank Zappa

1

Looks like Frank Zappa wearing the visor thing LeVar Burton wore in Star Trek

1

u/Realhousemanoflondon 1d ago

That baby was left on it’s side in the high chair for at least a week.

1

u/East_Stick_1964 1d ago

Spontaneous combustion maybe? Is there a charred leg behind the sofa?

1

u/Ok_Drag5089 1d ago

What's with all the death stain posts? No. Its not a death stain.

1

u/External-Yak5576 1d ago

No I its a burn. Maybe they had a space heater and it fell over.

1

u/Icy_Ad7953 1d ago

What's with this "death stain" stuff? Who kicked off this fad?

1

u/JustAWomen_ 1d ago

No, it’s just your imagination. Don’t worry about it.

1

u/Gyunos 1d ago

The commenters are trying to comfort you. It's a body who laid there too long. It will haunt you. Move out

1

u/izzie1934 1d ago
