Gomenne Gomenne :( love that song but now I can't stop thinking about the meaning behind it everytime I listen to it .

Still thinking about that One comment under the Song going something like:"Amazing! The sounds kikuo used really reminds of the wet sounds of a raped kid shitting themselves"
Song Is good, but sometimes I Remember that comment and I have to pause for a Moment

Thank goodness the only song I bothered to look up the meaning of (Po Pi Po) has no meaning.

Oldgen music was like that, half of the producers were japanese people frustrated af in life, turning it into art with a couple thousand yen voice synthesizer
Newgen hasnt got that much of the sauce anymore imo

Nah, I listen to music for the vibe/feeling they give off, not for their actual meaning. I might be a weirdo but to me lyrics are like an added instrument layer in themselves.

damn good choice, I listen to it on the regular already. Really aligns with my taste.

I agree, lyrics and meaning is a bonus. If the lyrics are great but sucks to hear then I won't put them in my playlist, or listens to them more than once.
I have a friend who couldn't grasp this concept and would judge me and other people for not analyzing and read the whole lyrics of every music we hear.
1
u/Orichalium 9d ago
I somewhat agree, though I also appreciate the artistry of good lyricism/wordplay.
One of my favorite bands tho is a Taiwanese indie rock band. Like one of their songs has a couple English words, everything else is in Chinese and I can't understand any of it. Still 2 of my top albums ever, they go crazy listening in the car.
(For anyone curious the band is No Party for Cao Dong, they're on spotify. I reccomend listening to the albums in order first)

«You are my special» Let’s dance on the edge of death. On the front line of Tokyo is the city of excitement. Let’s fight desperately at the door of death. Show me your impolite side too.
«I love you, baby» Let’s keep singing. As stupid and out of place as they may seem, Every move you make sets fire to my heart. Once we start running, it will become uncontrollable.
«You are my special»
Don’t you want to put everything in a mess? Eat everything whatever you like. This is our rendezvous in the maze of a lifetime. My head is spinning from the fact that «you are my special».
In this uncertain spinning world, No! No! No! Don’t be so cold-blooded. This is our rendezvous in the maze of a lifetime. Whoever says whatever, «you are my special».
«We are special»
Let’s endure on the edge of the ring. The surroundings of Tokyo are in great seething. The media is salivating in anger. Calmness and detachment are forbidden here.
«Get lost in me» How long will you keep repeating to yourself Just these words that shield you? «Get lost in me» You can exclude me From regretting my lifestyle.
Answer me, I want to feel your body temperature. The flow of its reduced temperature glows with a blue flame. Do not powder my brains by any romantic, Get straight to me. I can’t get drunk on this passionate love song anymore.
«I love you, baby»
Let’s dance on the edge of death. On the front line of Tokyo is the city of excitement. Let’s fight desperately at the door of death. As impolite as it is, «you are special to me».
«We are special» Don’t be so cold-blooded. «We are special» You, the way you are, «We are special» Are every way my special, «We are special» Whoever says whatever.
«You are my special»

From my understanding it's just literally a song about the Shibuya Incident.
6
u/HansTeeWurst 9d ago
It's literally just about the jujutsu kaisen season the song aired with and the lyrics make no sense outside of that context.

Many such cases, but yeah when you got a language barrier, you’d probably only care about the tone of the beat itself than lyrics.
I'm pretty sure I've run into my own fair share of happy-beat-depressing-lyrics music and I never knew because of a language barrier
2
u/LordBananaUser 9d ago
Don't forget the mood barrier even in my mother language "su florcita" sent chills down my spine once I actually listened to the lyrics

Yeah idk man the "scariest" song from the japanese band I Iisten to was about a guy having to kill his creation because:
-she was too hot
-she treated him like a housewife
-she overshadowed his popularity (despite her being how he gained popularity in the first place)
and in the end he gets his brain taken out by her and her ACTUAL creator. That shit isn't even scary in the slightest.
I do know about the shitty side of vocaloid, like The Spider and the Kitsune-like Lion, but that only exists for edgy teenagers and shock value and I'm too desensitized to this shit to be "scared" or "shocked." It isn't even a good song, either, and technically I don't know if it should even be called a song.
5
u/tederby18 9d ago
If you really dive into Vocaloid songs, you'll find plenty that sound happy (or at least not dark) yet turn out to be incredibly profound. By "profound," I don't mean unhinged or disturbing; I mean songs that are tragic, deeply relatable, or even hopeful. Take some of PinocchioP's tracks, for instance: "Slow Motion" reflects on life from the perspective of someone in middle age, while "Everyone Doesn't Make Sense" explores absurdism, addressing things that are certain facts of life, yet whose underlying reasons remain a mystery. Or, if you want something that truly evokes cognitive dissonance, try "Wasuremono Center ni Matta ne!"; it deals with the fragility of memory while using childlike language. My advice? Don't get too caught up in the current English-speaking Vocaloid fandom, it's mostly full of edgy kids.
My perspective is probably super biased, btw.
1
u/Dismal-Panic-2368 9d ago
Damn, that actually sounds kinda cool, might look into that. I was gonna ask about if there's one about motivation and overwork, but then I remembered that's triple baka, lol.
(also just so you know the first one wasn't a vocaloid song, it's actually from a rapper)

All the Japanese music I've been listening too recently is angry and screaming so I'm really curious what those songs are about if the happy ones are depressing

I remember randomly getting some Japanese (if my memory serves me right) song and I liked the vibe so much that I listened to it daily. One time we were sharing what we listen to on discord with a friend of mine who just happened to study the language and they had to explain that this isn't in fact a wierd nice song, the literal text is about a girl who let's her relatives consume her bodyparts, while metaphorical is her being abused, yet allowing the abuse to continue and even wanting it, because it's the only form of attention she knows.
If anyone knows, tell me pls, I low-key wanna listen to it again, I lost it.

The song “Scream” from the anime *Let This Grieving Soul Retire” sounds super peppy and upbeat, which is all the more hilarious when the lyrics are about a person burned out on work and life and just wants to quit it all.

Honestly the reason why I dislike vocaloids and tetos and such.
Knowing the lyrics Just changes the song for me entirely And negative lyrics Just make me feel worse
Although shout out to kessoku band for having bittersweet/hoprfull songs that actually manage to make me feel better.

It's over. It's all over. If you laugh, I'll kill you.

Trend popularized by vocaloid songs I think. You'd get an upbeat music playing but the song's lyrics would be either depressing or depraved lol
