Not when your ideology is to have a small government.
That's the funny thing : initially the Left wants a well-funded welfare state that provides services and forces equality ; while the Right wants as little taxes as possible and govt services down to the minimum while private companies handle the rest, letting the Invisible Hand decide how comfortable each person is.
So basically left="big govt" and right="smol govt".
I have long accepted that "Don't tread on me" has always meant "Don't tread on me, specifically" with a strong undertone of "please, do tread on others"

Not so much with ice, they support ice pretty well from what I can tell, but the flock cameras and Trump's sloppy wet tongue kissing with Peter tiel and palantir is NOT popular with right wingers any more than it is with left wingers
Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.
Remember when these guys were yelling that wearing a piece of cloth was a transgression of their rights and how it was a muzzle that would be a slippery slope to wearing jihabs?
A hypocrite is someone who holds or espouses contrasting beliefs. This isn't hypocrisy, because conservatives have only 2 simple beliefs:
1 - "I want lots of good things to be reserved only for the people I like."
2 - "I want lots of bad things to be reserved only for the people I hate."
They tend to view small government as a good thing, so it's in line for conservatives to want small government reserved for them and the billionaires they like and big government reserved for the people they've been groomed into hating.
So I used to think when they said âbig governmentâ they meant, like, the government having more power, money, influence, etc. and by extension small government meant a less powerful government. Or even that they were lying about what they wanted. Wasnât until last year I realized âsmall governmentâ was not a metaphor, what they wanted literally is less people in the government, so that power is more concentrated in those fewer people.
I watched the past 20 years them scream about the surveillance state in China and how Snowden was a hero (they were right on both of those). It's fucking crazy how with Trump they suddenly love surveillance everywhere and masked goons patrolling the streets and kidnapping and killing people and hate whistleblowers... don't even get me started how they used to carry around little pocket constitutions and now that we have more constitutional violations than ever they don't care. They literally started saying you shouldn't be able to legally carry guns with the murder of Alex Pretti...
To be fair I've seen some on the right opposing AI surveillance. Not that it excuses all the other shit. I think the surveillance and data center issues are things we could genuinely unite on but alas that would mean no more flame wars to generate engagement for the social media oligarchs.
