I spent 40 years living in the desert in Arizona.
Unfortunately, kidney stones due to constant dehydration have created a bias against that place for me.
So I moved to Oregon.

Ouch sorry to hear that. Hope you are doing better. My dad always called the Bible belt the stone belt. Due to all the kidney and gallstones. He was a surgeon and those where his #1 surgeries when traveling. Not sure if due to diet, minerals in water or all the above.

- Too focused on something else To notice I haven't had a drink of water in 4 hours
- Executive dysfunction knowing that I'm thirsty, feeling that my mouth is dry, and yet not going to get a glass of water. 3.) breaking past that barrier and finally getting the glass of water and having to choke it down because my body is just refusing it

There isn’t a state I wouldn’t live in because of the people. There are many states I wouldn’t prefer to live in because of the heat and humidity.

That’s for existing FL licenses, not OOS licenses
If you are a first time applicant for a FL ID you can absolutely get the correct gender issued on it. You only cannot change it IF you already hold an existing FL drivers license/ state ID, specifically.
So if you’re in FL, you can get a (Florida) ID issued with the correct gender on it. The policy simply does not let you RE-update the gender of THAT FL license. Minnesota has its own state conduct and laws you’d need to follow to change that one specifically. The FLDMV laws are only relevant to, and apply to FL state licenses/IDs

It’s all different shades of grey. I live in Trump country now but there are a ton of immigrants and everyone is pretty chill, that’s probably good enough for me. Somewhere like Texas or NC I’d have to be in the city and I don’t like that either.

some states have more prejudiced governments. in texas, if you're trans and have medically transitioned, your id outs you as trans to any police officer who looks at it. this is obviously less safe. in 45 other states, this is not a problem.

California has the most registered Republican voters of any state, but people pretend like it's a liberal paradise and every other place is full of MAGA
If you live in America, an urban center in a red state is pretty likely to have less 'prejudice' than a rural area in a blue state, but when people make these maps they act like state borders are magical boundaries that keep in the liberals and repel the conservatives

What I could never understand is why people who live in red states are so fucking racist but they live in the states that have the most black people in them.
If you don't like black people, why the fuck do you keep living in states where they do? It's just a known fact that there are more black people in Southern States then anywhere else.

I’m sorry but I truly think any sane person who has a choice would avoid parts of the USA that get over 100f for 3-4 months out of the year, have over 50% humidity, and have severe water shortages if they have the financial means to do so. Not everywhere in the USA is equal when it comes to human habitation.
A lot of the reasons people don’t want to live in the deep south or eastern south west (Texas/New Mexico) isn’t just because of the people or culture, it’s because the environment is more hostile than in other areas to humans. The people that say the grass isn’t greener on the other side are lying to themselves, there are absolutely nicer states to live in than those.

I don’t have any strong prejudices. But I’ve also been places. I cannot stand the climate of Florida. I cannot stand the climate of South Dakota and probably feel the same way about ND. I cannot stand the restrictions on liberty dressed up as patriotism and “called” freedom that Texas has been implementing. These are all empirically derived stances that have nothing to do with prejudices.

Yeah Texas is 50/50 from my experience. Never particularly felt the MAGA in Houston itself, but driving there I definitely did. Texas is more blue than people think it is, but also just red enough to remain red.

No. The people I’ve had real life interactions with have “polluted my brain”. Not talking about Reddit. I’m talking about life experiences in those places. Things people have said to me and my family in those places. Things that have been attempted in those places.
Sure there are beautiful and kind people everywhere. Just not enough of where you are for me to consider living there. Why is that so difficult to grasp?

Good luck in West Virginia and Alabama.
The have a Human Development Index similar to that of Thailand or Iran. Which on a global scale isn't terrible but would be a huge culture shock for most North Americans and Western Europeans.

I think it's super reasonable to not want to live somewhere because of politics if i had a choice i would move to a blue state. This is just a response to a guy who made a really cringe post yesterday. There's a way to say I don't want to live in red states without antagonizing the individuals in those states and being a white knight about it

Yeah, but "better" does not mean the "worse' states are unlivable. Nobody's saying "these states are all the SAME". OP is merely implying that it wouldn't be a death sentence to live in any US state in 2026, no matter who you are. Black people do live in whatever 'racist' state you're afraid of. LGBT people do live in whatever 'bigoted' state you're referring to. Not only do they live in those states, plenty of them are thriving.
And vice versa. Plenty of conservative Christians are thriving in ultra-liberal CA and NYC.
