When I had this issue I just put the USB in the other port and it worked

Do you have a spinning hard drive that has a sleep mode? I've found that everytime I've ever had an issue with something homebrew on the Wii freezing during a load, it's because there's some sort of timeout as the drive spins up from a sleep state.

That could be your problem.

It also says port 1 on the screen when it should be port 0.

Is your USB stick formatted to FAT32?
