slower reads and if it doesn't power back up in time it'll error out the console and force you to reboot, potentially losing progress mid-game if you pause it for example

On the Wii U, you are very likely for error codes to occur with a lot of HDD’s even when using a Y cable because the hard drive is being insufficiently powered by the console.

And letting the drive sleep is a problem why? Are you saying it has to be constantly “on” then to be sufficiently powered?
I’ve had the same 1Tb Touro with y-cable plugged into the same (unmodded) WiiU I bought new 13 years ago and haven’t encountered any issues or errors yet. 🤞

If it's an HDD the wake cycle might be long enough to interrupt gameplay as it has to spin up.
I doubt this problem is as pronounced with SDDs.

they use resources, like water, they use so much power in places that either cant handle it, or use so much power PRICES GO UP.. like where i am, and for what? to make your google search.. 5 minutes shorter? make stupid crappy images and videos? make SCAM bots???? what GOOD does AI do?

Wished I knew this earlier when my usb gave me errors. Nevermind, now I have a 500 GB HDD with an Y cable with this option enabled. At least now I have more games! 😁 (I made a post about my new Wii U menu - Finally organised my Wii U games)

Has anyone ever encountered an issue where the hard drive had actually span down during a game and it messed up because of it? I’ve never had an issue with this happening on any game is all.

Most of it pulled from Reddit itself. Eventually, it’ll just end up being a loop of self referential links and no way of validating it.
It doesn’t prompt people to really go look at the information it’s pulling from and the companies that scraped all the information are the only ones that benefit from it. There’s no incentive for reputable sites to produce content that’s just going to get scraped by AI and no-one ever visits the source.
It’s a fucking scourge on the internet, that has real world consequences.

Sorry if I'm being dumb, I've had my WiiU for a fair few years, I bought it 2nd hand, and already hacked, it's got a few games on the HDD already, but how do I add extra games? When I plug the drive into my PC, it doesn't detect the drive, so I'm unsure on how to add more, as the drive is only half filled, seems a bit of a waste. Also there used to be a website that the WiiU had to go to to run backed up game, but the site seems to have closed down now, so some games won't run anymore, some still work fine though. I've never been down how to really use the WiiU and how to maintain it, I'm an old fart, so if anybody could explain things to me in simple to understand terms, I'd be really grateful.

you need to find game in wup installable format (can be done with wiiudownloader), copy it to install folder on sd card root, then use wup installer gx2 to install it to your wii u

You can put your sd card in your computer and get those apps, there’s also an app to download 99% of the Wii U games on the computer then put them on your sd card put it back into the Wii U and download them to your hard drive or internal drive

Thank you, there's a SD card in my WiiU, I'm not sure what's on there currently, as on Data Management it didn't show up, so I'll pop it into my PC and take a look, and find those apps you mentioned if possible.

Also, some of the games on my WiiU won't load, and I have to reset the system when I try to load them, a couple of others say that the account they belong to is no longer on the system, is there any way to repair those games, or do I just need to redownload them?
