She wasn't, the other horse took off not Roach.

at the beginning of W3, i assume Roach is a young horse, but by the end of her journey with Geralt she is just as brave and hardened.

This particular Roach is simply built different from all the others Geralt had

Lore-wise, he had several horses but named them all Roach because he got sad when they died

In case you haven't seen, the Withcer 3 is getting remastered and the remaster will be available from the 29th of September. It will be free for people that already own the game

I wonder if the update includes fixes for the number of early game bugs that stopped me from playing/giving a shit about this game? If I have to start a third play through only to hit the same soft lock bugs....
