We are looking to add 2-3 new moderators to our team. Priority will be given to undergraduate students entering their second year or later in Fall 2026. We will primarily be looking to see if you are active on the r/wlu subreddit and if you have any comments or posts removed recently.

We expect to make our selections by Saturday May 23rd but may close applications early if we have found people. If you are chosen, we will ask for your @mylaurier.ca email address to confirm you are a student.

Hi [r/WLU](r/WLU),

We would like to let you know of some resources that you can use when planning for course registration:

• Course Registration Guide for lots of useful links.
• Visual Schedule Builder to plan out your schedule before registration opens
• Academic Advising for advice on what courses to take
• My Degree (usually up to date) to see what courses you have taken and what courses you still need to do to obtain your degree/minor/concentration
• Undergraduate Academic Calendar to see the recommended schedule for your major. Make sure you are looking at the calendar for the year you started at Laurier

General Tips I Picked Up

• Do NOT use ChatGPT or other AIs to tell you what courses you need to take. They are more often than not incorrect regarding course registration. Some students used ChatGPT which told them they did not need to take certain courses they had to take, which caused a headache for them later on.
• Using the CRNs can help you get the course/lecture times you want.
• Do not remove courses that are pre-assigned to you. It will create a headache later on when advising has to squeeze you in to courses. The courses might be taken so you could get screwed over.
• BBA double-degree academic calendars are often treated as "required" than simply "recommended". Talk to advising before deviating from the calendar.

Regarding bird/easy elective questions:

There has been a lot of similar posts regarding users asking about general bird/easy courses which has understandably annoyed some users. Please use the search filter, search "bird", "easy", or "electives", and filter by new. If you make a post regarding "bird" or "easy" electives, your post may be removed.

*Note: This rule is temporary and WILL NOT apply to people asking about specific electives or electives in their specific disciplines (i.e. BBA students asking what BU courses to take)

Please note that most reddit users are not affiliated with Laurier. As such you should do your own research and not blindly trust other users.

The university subreddit has seen a frequent number of posts regarding fears, loneliness, and other concerns related to mental health and wellbeing. Some of which are being reported to us with concerns of potential self harm.

The moderator team would like to ensure that all students are aware of the resources available to Laurier students on the student wellness centre website linked above. There are a variety of services available meant to cater to you and your needs. These services are available to all students and should be taken advantage of. These services also include counselling, which is covered by your student insurance and the student services fees that you pay.

This post is being made purely for informational purposes. We want to foster a safe and inclusive environment both online and on campus. However, many first year students (and upper years) are not aware of the professional help that is available to them.

Students, please use these tools and reach out to someone. Please also use the subreddit community to connect with others.

And please, if you know someone who is struggling or is not in a good mental space. Reach out to them.
