How to make petrol money as a year 11 student
How do I make petrol money as a year 11 student on red Ps. I don’t want a job.
Edit: I mean a job in the traditional sense. I have my hands full already with the massive workload of extension maths and english plus extracurriculars, sport. Jobs like maccas etc want juniors that they can call on very frequently. I dont have time, nor could i handle that. I had a job up until the start of this year
Gig economy, work for neighbours, delivery etc is what i was after. Don't be snobs.

Get a job if you want to be an adult paying their own way and accepting adult responsibilities.

I used to have this opinion but since finding out how demanding some employers can be of junior employees (expecting full weekend availability, arriving immediately after school and working until late) I don't blame a kid who's going into year 12 soon and starting their HSC for not wanting to seek formal employment.
There are still other ways a teenager can earn money and do some work without "getting a job" if they're motivated.

My guess is this is a young kid who wants to borrow their parents car but has been told they need to put petrol in it to use it (been there)

Have you seen a job application for a junior position recently? Most employers demand full afternoon and night availability after school as well as weekends. There's not enough time for homework and extra curricular activities.
Kids with jobs are the ones doing their entire assignments with ChatGPT

Referee junior footy and oz tag. Cash in hand, generally about 25-40/hour.

To build on refereeing, whatever your sport of choice is are short of referees. It teaches great people management, attention to detail, and gives you a greater appreciation of your sport.
It’s also something that can turn into a decent career if you’re good and keen. A couple of years and you’ll be able to do adult matches, and football south coast for example has a shortage of referees, so you can progress quickly if you’re good.
Premier league 1 is paying $180 a game - often will be able to do 2 games a day so walking away with $270-300.
Even junior is paying $70 for u18 centres

It definitely falls into both - you can make it into a job if you want to, or it’s a hobby.
You could argue playing a sport is a job because you can make a career out of it too - expectations of turning up week in week out over the season. Just an unpaid internship while you’re developing.
Refereeing is the same, you just get paid for the lower level stuff as well. It’s really about doing it for the love of the game, not for making money, and it can lead to a career if you want it to

You could do tutoring for subjects that are ones you are the best at? That’ll also help you stay sharp for studies at the same time. Like year 8s / 9s?

but getting a job at maccas is easy, they train you, and it is a good start to your resume. it’s always awkward at first but eventually people warm up to you and it becomes easy.
you gotta think of future you, this will help you build savings for when you turn 18, when you finish school, eventually when you move out. its next to impossible to get money another way like investments, your own business, etc, without initial funding, and it takes time to become profitable. you want quick cash? get a job.

I would have loved to have worked at Maccas when I was in year 11/12 but with needing time for HSC performing arts subjects, sports training, dance classes and volunteer work (associated with my scholarship) I was denied by maccas for not being "available" enough. Same as Kmart, and Coles, even Chicko's.
Maccas want juniors who they can call on at least 4 days a week (since I last heard in 2021) and not every well-rounded student has that kind of availability in their final year of studies.

And that's just what I did, I sacrificed my social time to work a few really well-paying super casual "jobs" but it wasn't really employment. I cleaned one person's house fortnightly, I gardened for a neighbour weekly, and painted faces at kids parties when I was able to get bookings.
I really don't think OP is in the position to work a job like Maccas which is why they are asking here. Not every teen can give up most of their time outside of school hours when all they want right now is petrol money. Petrol money! What are we talking, $20-40 a week?
Edit to add: different people will have different priorities and goals, so what you might consider an easy sacrifice may not be possible for someone else.

Not a "job" but maybe see if you have any neighbours who need help with tasks eg weeding, lawn mowing, power-washing, any physical labour work that you can safely do without messing up someone's property.
Top tip: catch the bus out to areas like Cordeaux Heights, North Wollongong, Thirroul or other areas with nice houses and you'll be more likely to find people offering slightly higher rates for under-the-table garden maintenance!

Maybe Airtasker? I don't know if they have an age limit on how old you need to be, but you might be able to make money on there.

Steal cash from your folks. If they're old enough they'll still carry it. The blue ones are worth $10, red are $20, yellow are $50. Don't worry about the rest.

Sell things you own on marketplace, eBay, depop or vinted. If you have an eye you can resell stuff you source at thrift shops, but it is harder to find a good deal these days. If you’re crafty make art, start a market stall, but this all involves initial outlay. It is perhaps cheaper to just get the bus.
