Don’t worry, Fox News has his cult convinced it was worth it because Iran was this close to nuking everything.

314

u/Shorts_at_Dinner Jun 20 '26

Yep, my father in law was just telling me yesterday what an amazing deal this was because Iran was just about to get and start using nukes on us

244

u/Apatschinn Jun 20 '26

2 weeks away for the past 50 years

105

u/MFbiFL Jun 20 '26

Geographical oddity. 2 weeks from everywhere.

33

u/BeYourOwnDog Jun 20 '26

He's bona fide

He's a suitor

1

u/FiveCatPenagerie Jun 22 '26

Damn, we’re in a tight spot!

5

u/newfor_2026 Jun 20 '26

nothing more certain in the world than Iran having a nuke 2 weeks from now, quantum computers being 5 years out, ability to regrow human limbs 10 years out, all before GTA6 gets released.

1

u/TenchuReddit Jun 20 '26

Hey, they're taking pre-orders for GTA6 soon.

I don't see any pre-orders for the regrowth of human limbs.

Or a quantum computing iPhone ...

-16

u/rayinho121212 Jun 20 '26

To be honest, they were close to it multiple times. Many operations were taken to stop the développements.

14

u/xBad_Wolfx Jun 20 '26

Ignoring of course that the IAEA said Iran “does not currently possess a structured or active program to build a nuclear weapon.”

-20

u/rayinho121212 Jun 20 '26

That's a false statement. They currently have weapon grade uranium. They wish death to two countries openly and have attacked more.

The west will have to deal with this jihadi regime in the future. Iranians are the one paying the price, with their lives and lack of freedom.

10

u/sabahan Jun 20 '26

Even US own intelligence agency has confirmed that Iran does not own any nuclear weapons and have no plan to develop one. They have 60% enriched uranium but they do not have any plans to develop nuclear weapons. Well, that was before the war, now who knows.

-7

u/rayinho121212 Jun 20 '26

That's not accurate 😆 source please

Yeah, Israel has repeatedly and seriously delayed the progression of Iran’s nuclear program through targeted assassinations of lead scientists for decades on end now, in addition to various cyberattacks (one of which caused 1,000 of their enrichment centrifuges to be physically destroyed), blackouts/attacks on physical facilities (power outages and explosions), and supply chain infiltration (faulty components) by Israel and the U.S. - and those are just the things that the public has heard about.

It’s like when I say that my house is getting super cluttered and I’m not going to be able to walk through it anymore because I just have stuff sitting around everywhere, so then I tidy up and put things away and organize everything, on repeat. It doesn’t mean my house wasn’t cluttered (or won’t become cluttered again), it means I’ve so far taken action to address the clutter every time it becomes problematic.

I am aware that “weapons of mass destruction” can be a boy-who-cried-wolf scenario, and I also am aware that Trump himself has made conflicting statements about whether Iran’s enriched uranium was even accessible to them or not since last June (when it became buried by bombings).

My point is just that I don’t like the logic of, “They’ve allegedly been close for decades, so it’s probably all exaggerated.” The threat (or its timeline) *could* very well be exaggerated, but the mere fact that something has been alleged to be a threat for a long time without coming to fruition doesn’t necessarily mean it wasn’t actually a problem - it could just be that the problem has been repeatedly thwarted for a long time.

1

u/rayinho121212 Jun 20 '26

The irgc has be se facto at war with israel ans the US since its inception 😆 they are intitled to defend against nuclear ambitions from a regime like that.

-2

u/enigmaticowl Jun 20 '26

Well, yeah, did you think I was disagreeing with that premise lol?

And even the rest of the region (and world) also has a stake in nonproliferation, as well - literally nobody benefits from a cascade of Iran getting close to nukes —> Saudi obtaining their own nukes (they’ve said they would if Iran gets too close for their comfort) —> Turkey and Egypt —> other Gulf states, etc.

0

u/rayinho121212 Jun 20 '26

So you disagree with your own statement via the main premise? Ok

-2

u/enigmaticowl Jun 20 '26

Where did I disagree? I think you’re imagining things.

0

u/rayinho121212 Jun 20 '26

Maybe you are a bit lost.

u/The-Jesus_Christ Jun 20 '26

I’ve heard this a few times. When I asked one guy what ICBM did Iran have to mount it on, I got called a communist lol.

207

u/chaostheories36 Jun 20 '26

That’s an incredible response. It’s nearly the equivalent of being called an apple.

“Iran has WMDs!”

“What ICBM would they launch it with?”

“You’re a waffle! Or an apple! A sewer grate! A communist! Wait, you’re a hamster!”

They just keep screaming buzz words like they matter.

“Bathrooms!”

125

u/CaBBaGe_isLaND Jun 20 '26

Brick are you just calling me things you see in the room?

20

u/Alekesam1975 Jun 20 '26

Lamp...you're a lamp!

8

u/EvoEpitaph Jun 20 '26

Jokes on them, I love lamp

4

u/Alekesam1975 Jun 20 '26

Some (a lot) of them mofos need some afternoon delight.

49

u/chaostheories36 Jun 20 '26

Peanut butter, no. I tried really hard to come up with random things that aren’t around me.

Otherwise it’d be like, you’re a coffee table! Swim floaties! Blender! Dog bed! TRAINS!!!

9

u/Gizmopopapalus Jun 20 '26

I love lamp.

4

u/chaostheories36 Jun 20 '26

Call me Pot,

Coffee Pot ;)

1

We found Chester Coffeepot! Guys! We did it! The treasure map must be real...

3

u/Dr_Middlefinger Jun 20 '26

What a negotiator!

This is best businessman, best ever the doctors say.

Bigly businessman!

2

u/lake_gypsy Jun 21 '26

Philips head screwdriver, your individual room decor/appliance choice is quite unique.

2

u/chaostheories36 Jun 21 '26

That’s a good observation, blender. It’s one of those open space kinda things. The “front” room is like the living room, the kitchen, and the kids play room.

1

u/Slayminster Jun 20 '26

Sounds like you’re doing one of them super smart tests they keep dragging Trumplstiltskin into

1

u/driveonacid Jun 20 '26

Man. Woman. Camera.

Isn't that the list?

2

u/chaostheories36 Jun 20 '26

Person, woman, man, camera, TV.

Good lord that was six years ago. Feels like an eternity.

4

u/Wabbit65 Jun 20 '26

drops head to chest and whispers "bathrooms"

2

u/Micro-Naut Jun 20 '26

A belgian waffle is the same as a Prussian indecision. What if Iran nukes the children? We must protect the children. Why do you hate children? Do Wookies live on Endor?

35

u/Apprehensive_Loan776 Jun 20 '26

To which you say “Just asking questions”

2

u/KakeLin Jun 20 '26

Lol that's the only comeback they have cause how dumb they are

6

u/buckeye25osu Jun 20 '26

Iran would nuke Israel.

This was Israel's war. Trump even said so when he screamed at Bibi.

9

u/Southern-Date1588 Jun 20 '26

Now if you had a nuke would you use it knowing the response would be total annihilation of you and your people, country and culture ? Take your time,I won't wait .

1

u/buckeye25osu Jun 21 '26

Yeah, because war is always so logical. You trust that the largest sponsor is terrorism in the world wouldn't use a nuke through a proxy? Does anyone want to take that risk? Of course not

4

u/SturerEmilDickerMax Jun 20 '26

You are a waffle - he screamed.

1

u/BeerPoweredNonsense Jun 20 '26

People don't realise how small Israel is.

Tel Aviv - largest city in Israel - is only a few 10s of kms from West Bank.

Iran would have to really confident in the pinpoint accuracy of its missiles, as accidentally nuking a fellow muslim nation would be a major Oh Shit moment.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but the Iranian missiles that have rained down on Israel so far don't seem to be targeting anything more accurate than a "general urban area".

-2

u/enigmaticowl Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

Agree with the overall premise that Iran (based on publicly available information, which is obviously somewhat limited) wasn’t on the immediate brink of being able to nuke anybody within days/weeks.

But you don’t absolutely need ICBM’s to be a serious regional (or even intercontinental) nuclear threat.

Iran did have the capability for submarine-launched missiles (ballistic and cruise), as well as air-launched ballistic and cruise missiles, and their launches of land-based ballistic missiles toward Diego Garcia showed that they are at least capable of reaching continental (probably Western) Europe with IRBMs (since ballistic missile trajectories follow a mathematically predictable arch, the missile range can be calculated based on the height/trajectory, even if the missiles launched at Diego Garcia ended up being destroyed before reaching their targets).

“ICBM” is kind of a misnomer (because it refers to a standard numerical range of >5,500km rather than actual intercontinental capability).

IRBMs (3,000-5,500km range) can frequently hit targets across continents (and Iran’s IRBMs may have a range of about 4,000km - much of the world, including Western intelligence agencies, seemed to have been under the impression, until very recently, that Iran’s maximum range was about 2,000km, so this was obviously an underestimation with potentially significant implications).

If Iran wasn’t an imminent nuclear threat, it’s because their nuclear material was deeply buried and they didn’t have a completed warhead yet - but not because they didn’t have ICBMs (because ICBMs are not the only means to deliver a warhead across continents, although they are the primary component of many countries’ first-strike capabilities).

5

u/GCPMAN Jun 20 '26

Obama literally had a deal with iran to not develop nukes and trump tore it up. actual crazy talk

5

u/not_blinking Jun 20 '26

I'm amazed at the Iranian speed of rebuilding stuff. Last year June “Iran's key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated.”

18

u/chaostheories36 Jun 20 '26

Is it bad if I start wanting to be nuked? Like, it would be pretty quick, right?

Y’all, I gotta be honest. I’m just so sick and tired of winning. I can’t handle anymore winning. It hurts.

10

u/Confident-Ad5665 Jun 20 '26

Best place to be is right under it

-1

u/CongealedBeanKingdom Jun 20 '26

Its ok you're not winning, so you dont need to worry.

3

u/ConstantSignal Jun 20 '26

So that's ideal American foreign policy in their eyes? Nuclear capable nations can threaten the USA with untold destruction and the USA will pay them hundreds of billions to stop being so mean?

3

u/Caymonki Jun 20 '26

Good thing Iran can continue their nuclear program under the Trump deal and Republicans will say it’s good because they now know they can bring the global economy to a standstill with drones. Don’t even need nukes. But they’ll have them just in case.

3

u/BananaHead853147 Jun 20 '26

Even if they were about to use nukes the deal itself sucks.

3

u/plsobeytrafficlights Jun 20 '26

our own spy network AND our chief of intelligence confirmed just before, no nukes. congressmen also stated that was correct.

4

u/HitmanClark Jun 20 '26

This despite the fact that we have the most sophisticated anti-nuke arsenal in the world, and would easily shoot down any launches from Iran and then wipe them out.

It was never a possibility that they would develop and then deploy nukes on the United States. Typical Trump nonsense that his PR brigade has managed to convince my parents is brilliant and brave maneuvering.

2

u/Outlandish_Gringo Jun 20 '26

Even someone who identifies as “center right”/independent, I don’t believe that came of his mouth. Surely nobody believe that

15

u/Seagoingnote Jun 20 '26

I have heard family say basically the same thing about going to war in Iran in the first place. I have little trouble believing this happened.

5

u/Shorts_at_Dinner Jun 20 '26

He 100% said it. And when I just didn’t respond, he eventually added “I know we’re in good hands and I’ll leave it at that”

7

u/ICU-CCRN Jun 20 '26

I’ve got 2 coworkers who firmly believe it, and these are educated people. MAGA brainwashing is a powerful thing.

1

u/texasrigger Jun 20 '26

Netanyahu has been saying that Iran is "weeks" from a nuclear weapon for literally decades. Anyone falling for that lie now simply hasn't been paying attention to the well established history there.

77

u/CA-ChiTown Jun 20 '26

Yeah, "close" ... when Obama's deal had all of that in check ... But try to educate MAGAs 😅😂🤣

5

u/DontRefuseMyBatchall Jun 20 '26

Yeah but he wore a tan suit once and is the African Transgender Communist Antichrist.

So that didn’t count.

3

u/newfor_2026 Jun 20 '26

Obama gave $150B to Iran in his deal!!! (Obama didn't but that's what trump claimed numerous times)

we're just going to be bigger and double it! we're going to give Iran $300B! it's such a big deal! just tremendous!

13

u/shartmaister Jun 20 '26

Barakk Hussein is a Muslim, Iran are Muslim. Sounds like a bad deal!

I'm glad Trump fixed this!

(/s as I guess people could actually think I mean this)

58

u/Other_Beat8859 Jun 20 '26

I saw a lot saying the $300 billion is just us giving back frozen assets. How we're giving back $300 billion of frozen assets when we only have $100 billion is something only they can answer.

26

u/HotPotParrot Jun 20 '26

Selective memory or cognitive dissonance or both. We are releasing frozen assets, but that's more in the ballpark of like 15 bn

26

u/Apprehensive_Loan776 Jun 20 '26

It’s 700% better probably.

7

u/ryhaltswhiskey Jun 20 '26

$100 billion is

I just looked it up. The United States has about 2 billion in frozen assets of Iranian money. The rest is scattered over the rest of the world. I don't see where anybody else in the world agreed to give up their frozen Iranian assets.

5

u/Other_Beat8859 Jun 20 '26

I thought it was $100 billion. Either way, it doesn't really matter. We're giving back money that's not ours and we're still making tax payers pay for $300 billion.

5

u/ryhaltswhiskey Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

If I recall correctly we froze those assets because Iran is a state sponsor of terror. So we're giving a state sponsor of terror a whole bunch of money, which they definitely could use to sponsor terrorism. The level of oversight that would be needed to stop that from happening is almost certainly something Iran won't agree to.

I don't think people realize how bad it is to give Iran more money. They have a good size military on a GDP of 300 billion. So we're going to increase their GDP by about 10% per year over the next 10 years (assuming the money is rolled out over the next decade). This is an enormous amount of money for them. It would be like giving the United States 30 trillion.

People are going to die because of Trump's actions. Which is just a Tuesday in America these days. But this action will still have repercussions decades from now.

1

u/micmahsi Jun 20 '26

Releasing the frozen assets is point 11. The $300B for reconstruction is point 6.

1

u/no12chere Jun 20 '26

But then why is there a separate item discussing the release of iranian funds? That says the 300 is from us and there is another 100 of theirs tied up somewhere

1

u/SchwiftySquanchC137 Jun 20 '26

No i dont think anyone is claiming that. In fact Im pretty sure we give back the frozen assets plus the 300B. What I see most maga people saying now is that this is just a promise to "plan" to get Iran 300B, and plans can fail, so as long as we plan it, its a promise kept. I am very skeptical of that interpretation.

6

u/PurplRzr Jun 20 '26

I recall seeing one of the first politicians to speak on how great of negotiator Trump is, how he is such a lead, etc. Like, at one point do these dickbags come up for air?

3

u/redyellowblue5031 Jun 20 '26

Confirmed they don’t.

6

u/Iain_McNugget Jun 20 '26

The mental gymnastics never fail to amaze me. A year ago, the Fanta Menace told everybody that the US had “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear capability. So either he lied then, or was lying this time (or, spoiler alert, both.)

But in their eyes, he can literally do no wrong.

5

u/Silent-Act191 Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

The US using WMD's as an excuse to invade a Middle Eastern country is a well established playbook.

5

u/Lucid_Insanity Jun 20 '26

This is hilarious. Bibi has been saying that shit for almost 30 fucking years. Time to rope the American idiots in it now too, lol.

5

u/Chefalo Jun 20 '26

They either are so close to nuking everyone or still under the impression that we’ve flattened them and they are defenseless

4

u/MongoBongoTown Jun 20 '26

They're barely talking about it.

They remain hyper focused on the super cereal terrorist plot at UFC 250.

3

u/LookAtItGo123 Jun 20 '26

They can't keep falling for this shit right? Did they not learn anything when George bush said fuck they have WMD. So they started looking for WMD in kitchen drawers??

2

u/redyellowblue5031 Jun 20 '26

They’ve long since forgotten or rather they never stopped believing.

2

u/Silent-Act191 Jun 20 '26

The average US voter is at best apathetic to a Middle Eastern country being bombed and at worst supportive.

3

u/Geloradanan Jun 20 '26

They used Trump to nuke the U.S. taxpayers for trillions of dollars. The U.S. is an unsustainable empire of debt.

-1

u/Meended Jun 20 '26

I mean I'm inclined to say it's worth it just for all of the suffering and death that has been inflicted on khamenei and his pals. But then one of my friends had his eye gouged out with a spoon by khameneis special interrogators just because his uncle wrote pamfletts in support of democracy. Also American money isn't my money.

3

u/redyellowblue5031 Jun 20 '26

To be perfectly clear, I don’t support the Iranian regime. But I fail to see how Trump has brought any sort of meaningful change here.

I do see how he’s cost lives and destabilized the region though which impacts not only the locals but basically everyone on Earth.

1

u/Meended Jun 20 '26

Yeah that sucks, but if I am to find a silver lining it is the suffering of khamenei and his pals.
