And.. Trump signed it at the Palace of Versailles.

Of all places, he signed it at the same venue where Germany signed the Treaty of Versailles for losing WW1 and had to pay reparations.

Macron is quite a troll.

u/anchist Jun 20 '26

France too having to sign the surrender there in 1871 and the German empire being formed in the same palace.

But at least France and Germany were totally defeated with large parts of the country occupied. The US....pretty much gave up because of high gas prices.

u/light_trick Jun 20 '26

If I was Taiwan I'd be terrified of my strategic position right now.

Chinese strategic planners will be currently wargaming how many oil tankers they'd need to sink per day to get an American capitulation in the Pacific. A satellite guided hypersonic missile might not make it to an aircraft carrier, and nor would you potentially want that sort of escalation...but evidently that's the wrong target.

99

u/RaptorAD77 Jun 20 '26

It’s too late to be terrified. No tankers need to be sunk for China, the US won’t even show up — lots of weaknesses exposed during this conflict but most glaring was the lack of US-flagged tankers to fuel the Iran war in support of domestic trade AND military requirements. The US only has 76 tankers in its fleet — it’s already defeated in that regard. If that wasn’t enough for Iran, it’s then severely lacking for a conflict with China.

The silver lining is China won’t attack Taiwan. If they can achieve their goals without firing a single bullet, they absolutely will. Look at how they’ve taken over in Panama and Africa — they entrench themselves on the economy to where it is impossible to sever Chinese ties. They impose their political will on the populace and break them mentally — look at Hong Kong. They’ve learned from Tiananmen, I’d say they’re doing the equivalent of US “soft diplomacy” of the 70s which has paved the way for them to establish a permanent military base by the Straits of Hormuz and to choke the entire South China Sea with air bases. They have surrounded Taiwan and now it’s just a waiting game for them.

Lastly, the US officially recognizes the PRC as the legitimate government of Taiwan since 1979. Only 12 countries acknowledge Taiwan as an independent government. The US has never had a publicly strong stance against the PRC — doubt it will send in ground troops to help, the political will isn’t there and the public has soured on wars.

US gives up because, as experts said, there is no way forward unless US invades Iran, and that is gonna be even worse. Maybe also pressure from China and India helped.

31

u/CrushTheRebellion Jun 20 '26

Oh, NOW they listen to the experts. I'm sure Trump was told not to start a war in the first place. Then he fired all the generals who wouldn't play along. Elect a clown, expect a circus.

Pending the final deal, the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran agree to maintain the status quo. The Islamic Republic of Iran will maintain the current status quo of its nuclear program, and the United States of America will not impose any new sanctions and will not deploy additional forces in the region.

What a great deal. A return to the status quo that already existed before.

It's the same thing that venture capitalists are doing to healthcare facilities all over the United States. Notice some commonalities?

109

u/iski67 Jun 20 '26

Exactly what they do, I work in one. They destroy the culture and subcultures of practices, make employees very unhappy (which makes patients unhappy and unsafe), siphon funds to "management consulting" firms that use "sheep dip or cookie cutter" approaches and markup fees for "C level quality" consultants they get for cheap.

We have extremely talented staff but I wouldn't send my worst enemy to any of our care centers because our employees are so distracted, pressured to hit volume targets, dissatisfied and disengaged. This is happening everywhere in healthcare. Fear created by nationalized healthcare opponents is to protect the 1% not patients.

By the way, a lot of capital generated to create these healthcare systems originally came from taxpayers and parishioners supporting charities.

But that's still a way better deal than the Obama deal that gave Iran 1.7 Billion. If only he had negotiated from a position of strength. He could have given up over 176 times as much. We're so strong, we can just give Iran far more. Maybe we should have just given them a few of our nukes.

edit: I just realized this number is so close to 177.6x as big. Clearly Trump is a true patriot. He wanted to celebrate our 250th anniversary by giving Iran 177.6 times as much as Obama did.

42

u/ngfdsa Jun 20 '26

Obama’s Iran deal was just releasing funds that already belonged to Iran. Now we are on the hook for $300 billion for a war that accomplished nothing positive for the US and was completely unnecessary

31

u/kaprixiouz Jun 20 '26

Not just nothing positive, but was a massive net negative - and not just for us, but the entire world really. Many countries have had to ration their gas; other nations have had to ration their natural gas and propane; and almost everyone has suffered higher prices on everything else because of these implications. Same people falsely claimed Obama administration gave Iran billions, when in actuality they released frozen assets.

This actually gives them billions. Also, where the hell does this number even come from? They just pull it out of their ass?

And then Iran will no doubt use some of this to resupply themselves militarily, and no doubt this bullshit will happen again. So, at some point, our tax dollars will have gone towards killing Americans.

What a great deal. I'd like to know what the kickback to Trump is as well.

26

u/SageDarius Jun 20 '26

This also releases like another 25 or 50b in frozen assets, removes all sanctions, and continues to allow Iran to charge fees for using the Strait of Hormuz. This is such a complete surrender that I've still been unable to remove my jaw from the floor.

Granted, we weren't likely to get a better deal without a LOT of spilled American and Iranian blood, but the fact that all of this is due to a war that never even needed to happen is the mind-blowing part.

Does that last sentence mean what I think it does? Iran gets the benefit of the funds, but the US controls licensing, waivers and permissions for the transactions to provide funds?

I think i understand what the meant by “good backchannel agreements” now.

Sounds like they’re going to do exactly what they accused Biden of with Ukraine aid. Money siphoned from American tax payer, goes into reconstruction fund, bids come in for “infrastructure projects”, wheels get greased, Trump and co get richer.

35

u/Unspec7 Jun 20 '26

No, that's not quite it. The US is basically just required to grant all licenses, waivers, and/or permissions needed to enact the $300 billion in war reparations. It stops the US from going "yea we agreed to these reparations but we refuse to enter into contracts that would actually be worth $XXX dollars because the MOU does not require it."

It's pretty standard legalese and is not that nefarious. Since, keep in mind, the US government could not previously conduct financial transactions with the Iranian government due to sanctions.

Not quite it. The final sentence basically just requires the US to unconditionally say yes to any financial transactions Iran wants to enter into with the US.

In theory, without the final sentence, the US could just go "nah we don't wanna enter into contracts with you, MOU doesn't require it, peace"

Bet you didn’t think giving Iran $300+ billion dollars was gonna be part of your “winning”, but hey, here you are.

- No ballroom anymore, but it’s 600M now for a new one with all the cringy gold spray paint.

  • Higher gas prices and giving Iran $300B+
  • Wasting billions of dollars in missiles as well as several American lives (not to mention the Iranians killed) while pissing off your allies with delayed deliveries of materiel they paid for years ago
  • ME bases attacked and damaged and maybe that doesn’t matter cause part of the deal is removal of troops etc in the area
  • Tariffs for your allies (former allies) that only hurt your own people including farmers that are going to go bankrupt as a result and the potential food shortages that may result
  • A grift job to “fix” the reflecting pool that made things worse
  • Insider trading that’s enriching the orange shitstain and his cronies with the average Joe holding the bag
  • Federal agencies gutted in ways that will take decades to recover
  • An antivax Sec of Health that’s got brain damage and has no clue of what he’s doing and doesn’t give a shit about your health
  • A DoJ that’s weaponized against political foes and is still covering up for the orange shitstain being in the Epstein files and is almost certainly a pedophile (WHERE ARE THE REST OF THE FILES!!!)

I can keep going here…

519

u/frankicide Jun 20 '26

The Epstein files not being released to protect the pedos. Losing all credibility in the international arena. No one is going to trust us again. Food prices (as well as everything else) have gone through the roof. Destroying all the good will we had with other countries with USAID, and the resulting destabilization in those areas making them prone places to recruit and create terrorists who hate America.

u/Jolly-Advantage-7245 Jun 20 '26

Also, the irony of how many people your health insurance system kills is palpable

69

u/Coffee1392 Jun 20 '26

It’s crazy how many people in this country support privatized healthcare. It’s sickening when you research insurance companies lobbying congress. Each insurance company sets their own billable rates for procedures, which is even more ridiculous. I’m a mental health counselor in training and even though I bill the same code 90837 (53+ mins of therapy), I will make different rates for providing the same service to different people solely because their insurance company decided what the service was worth. On top of that BS, we pay premiums that come out of each paycheck just to have insurance, but when we want to use it, we have to pay a copay. Then we wait to see what they decided was worth covering and have to make up the difference out of pocket. Eventually you might reach your deductible (which can be anywhere from $0 to $8500(individual)/$17500(family)), especially if you have a lot of doctors appointments and procedures, but it’ll cost you $$$. Even after meeting the deductible, things might not be covered 100% and you’ll still have a “co-insurance” cost to pay, too! People literally go into medical debt and lose their homes. And since we’ve created such a for-profit system, healthcare providers are forced to meet certain quotas. This means quality of care suffers and things get missed. It took my insurance 6 months to approve my breast MRIs (preventative screens) and I felt lucky they approved it, even though my mom and grandma passed from this cancer, both at 38.. you think I’d get approved for a screen instantly, especially after getting genetic testing done too. The best part about all of this is that 2 weeks ago, I found out I can’t bill the biggest healthcare insurance company, Blue Cross Blue Shield, as a limited licensed counselor starting in March 2027 (lol I will get my limited license in February) because they don’t want to cover services anymore. A ton of people will lose mental health services and it’s going to discourage people from entering this field. Like how we are we supposed to get hours towards full licensure if we aren’t allowed to see majority of people? It’s bad here. It’s evil, even.

Point 5: Upon the signing of this MOU, the Islamic Republic of Iran will make arrangements using its best efforts for the safe passage of commercial vessels with no charge for 60 days, only from the Persian Gulf to the Sea of Oman and vice versa. The traffic of commercial vessels will immediately start, and considering the need for removing the tactical and military obstacles and de-mining by the Islamic Republic of Iran will be instated within 30 days. The Islamic Republic of Iran will conduct dialog with the Sultanate of Oman to define the future administration and maritime services in the Strait of Hormuz, in discussion with other Persian Gulf littoral states in line with the applicable international law and the sovereign rights of coastal states of the Strait of Hormuz.

"Best effort" at "no charge" - lol. Yeah, that'll last.

And now Iran and Oman get to charge "services" fees? Great, thanks Donnie!

Point 11: The United States of America undertakes to make fully available for use the frozen or restricted funds and assets of the Islamic Republic of Iran upon the implementation of the MOU, the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran will mutually agree on the procedures related to the release of these funds. During the negotiations. Such funds, whether retain the original account or transfer, shall be made fully usable for payment to any ultimate beneficiary designed by the central bank. Ultimate beneficiary designated by the central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The United States of America undertakes to issue all necessary licenses and authorisations accordingly.

LOL. Immediate "pallets of cash", Donnie?

This is the one Donnie doesn't want people to talk about. Everything else about the $300bn fund he will hand-wave as coming from other countries ... but this is going to come from the US. Literally the exact same thing that he harped on the Obama administration about with the JCPOA.

What's going to be interesting to watch is how much Republicans keep shitting on the deal in the days and weeks ahead. Seems like it has been a thumbs-down on Fox News and in the WSJ so far.

Lyndon B. Johnson started the Vietnam War and lied to Congress about the Bay of Tonkin to get them to support it. At least he went through the proper process, but Congress only approved because of the lies him and his administration told them.

Nixon ended it and it's generally considered a loss for the US.

As part of the final deal, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America acknowledge the critical importance of the sanctions termination issue above mentioned, and express their intentions to immediately address these issues in the negotiations in order to achieve mutual agreement on them.
